A young man studies Scripture in a Jewish library situated against the ancient Western Wall of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. This blog is designed to help us do likewise!

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 17:19

And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes…

Moses predicted that one day Israel would have a king. The first three were Saul, David and Solomon. It may be that they failed to read the Word of God every day, and the direct result was that they multiplied wives, silver and gold for themselves, and more and more power for themselves. Early in their lives, they served God faithfully and from that time of faithfully fearing the Lord, we have many Psalms and Proverbs. God made one of His “exceeding great and precious promises” (read 2 Peter 1:3-14). Peter writes, “be even more diligent.” Diligence in reading the Word, fearing the Lord, and being obedient to Him will have results… “He may prolong his days….he and his children” (Deuteronomy 17:20).

Then there are the orders to stone certain offenders. We should be glad that Jesus changed the stoning procedure. He said, “Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone” (John 8:7). Stephen was killed by stoning, and Saul, later Paul, supervised the stoning (Acts 7:58). Paul was, himself, stoned in Lystra (Acts 14:19), but survived. In Heaven, Stephen and Paul have likely discussed their experiences of being stoned. They are, I’m sure, rejoicing that Jesus changed things concerning stoning.

Thank You, Jesus, for Your pure love for the woman who was about to be stoned. You gave her a new beginning in her life. You gave me a new beginning too. Please help me to reaffirm again my commitment to Your instructions to us all, and in particular to leaders. I ask You to give me the grace of faithfulness in reading Your Word, as highlighted in our key verse. Amen!!!!

Frankly, I’m looking forward to getting into our next book, Romans. We’ll arrive there, God willing, on January 6th. The writer, Paul, was a highly educated intellectual. He took all those things we are reading in the Torah and presented the Law in the Jesus way. Hallelujah!

Concerning the temptations of leadership, I did not multiply wives. Thank You Jesus! Nor did I multiply gold and silver. However, I did multiply horses! At one point, the ministry of Crossroads had over 400 horses at 11 Circle Square Ranches, where horsemanship was the main activity. Crossroads has donated most of the Ranches to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, where they are being carried on, along with their existing Pioneer Camps. I would encourage my “100 Words” readers to send children and teens to camp this Summer. Christmas Day is tomorrow. What a great idea for a gift. Check out Inter-Varsity’s camps here.

Yours for “prolonged” days for each of us and for our children,

P.S. Here is a link to a series of fascinating Christmas videos from recent 100 Huntley Street programs. Moira Brown recorded these on location in Israel with renowned New Testament scholar, Dr. Craig Evans. The series is called “Unwrapping the Christmas Story” (click HERE).

  1. Merry Christmas to you and your family David. May 2015 be filled with many more of God’s blessings.
We continue to follow you every day and are totally blessed. Looking forward to the book of Romans ourselves.
Christmas blessings also to all the blog followers.

  2. “O holy night, the stars are brightly shining”.
These words were written by a wine seller named Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1847. His parish priest had asked him to write a poem for Christmas. Later his friend composed the music and it became the great hymn of Christmas.

Don’t want to appear grumpy but our justice system doesn’t seem to fit the crimes commited these days. Stoning certainly wasn’t civilized but then neither are crimes. So happy Jesus came to straighten everything out.
Blessings fellow saints on this holy holiday.

  3. Merry Christmas to all the Family, may your hearts and homes
overflow with the love of Jesus.
God’s blessings on all those who read this blog,
May the richness of His Word strengthen each of us daily in 2015.
    Merry Christmas all.

    • Bless all who reads this blog as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour. I pray for those who are suffering or alone that The Lord would comfort them. Also for those who are grieving a death in the family. My neighbour just lost her sister yesterday after a short illness. That you dear Heavenly Father for sending Jesus to save us from sins. Amen

  4. Merry Christmas to all and we look forward to what the Lord is going to do in 2015. I am glad I live in the day of Grace. It is difficult reading at times but I realize God has a chosen people and He wanted them to be an example of
Godliness. At least that is what I am understanding from the reading this week and last. God bless.

  5. Merry Christmas David, Norma-Jean, Ron, Ann, Reynold and all the rest of the family, 100 Huntley St. Team and fellow bloggers. Thank you for the rich blessing of this I surely do miss it when I can’t access it. Looking forward to a new year in the Word.

  6. THANK GOD He meets us where we are!
THANK GOD He understand all our flaws, imperfections, our sins!
    THANK GOD He forgives all!
THANK GOD it matters not whether our bank accounts are empty or overflowing!
THANK GOD it matters not how educated we are!
THANK GOD it matters not if we are the King, Queen, President, or a well known movie star!
THANK GOD it matters not whether we have travelled around the world in 80 days!

WHAT DOES MATTER? GOD HAD A STRATEGY! He planned for salvation to come to mankind in the most unusual way, through a baby! A tiny beautiful baby boy!

WHAT DOES MATTER? GOD HAD A STRATEGY! Mankind can “repent” turn around from their sins and receive forgiveness from this “baby”. A “BABY” BROUGHT THE WORLD TO ITS KNEES!

WHAT DOES MATTER? GOD HAD A STRATEGY! Matthew 24:18-20..And Jesus came and said to them “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me . Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, batptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you alwys to the close of the age”

WHAT DOES MATTER? GOD HAD A STRATEGY! This “strategy” began in Genesis 1..”In the Beginning……”

WHAT DOES MATTER? GOD’ S STRATEGIC PLAN continues until the end AMEN
