This pool (now a cistern) is located at the northwestern corner of Jerusalem's Temple Mount and measures 52 x 14 metres. It is located along the Via Dolorosa. This cistern is accessible from the lower area of the Sisters of Sion convent and from the tunnel that runs along the western wall of the Temple Mount.

Key Verse: Mark 7:20

And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man…”

“Pharisees,” a religious denomination within the religion of Judaism, put great emphasis on tradition, ceremonies, and keeping the letter of the law in a most meticulous way. They had added a multitude of details and intrepretations to the law of Moses. Jesus said to them, “[you are] making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition” (verse13). Jesus then lists some of the evil that comes from within a person (verses 21-23). Jesus came with the message that true faith is inward and produces good fruit on the outside. Paul lists the manifestation of the inner life produced by a daily drawing from Jesus who lives in the believer. This includes LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF CONTROL (Galatians 5:22-23).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You said, “I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Through reading Your Word, prayer, and this blog, I’m abiding in You. Therefore, I expect to produce good fruit today. In Your fruitful Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My Dad told the story of when he first went to Egypt as a missionary. The year was 1922 when, in a Model T Ford car, several veteran missionaries drove him into the desert where he spotted a tree which had delicious-looking fruit on it. “Try it,” they said. He did and it was the most bitter fruit. They laughed and informed him that this fruit was called “Apples of Sodom.” This was one of the many stories I was raised on. Dad would laugh heartily at the memory. Over the years, I’ve tried to tell my family stories (in an interesting way) from the past, as well as my own stories. My great-granddaughter, Aliya Stowell, had just turned 3 when she, her younger brother, her Mom and Dad travelled with me across the prairie provinces for 2 months during my “Thank You Canada” tour. As I told her one of my stories, she said, “Great Grandpa, I love you very, very much…but I don’t want to listen to you anymore.” Since then she’s given me permission to tell more stories. However, I make sure to make them more interesting!

Yours so that when someone takes a bite of you, you will taste really good,

David

  1. That was a pretty difficult thing to do – not tell anyone about a striking change in one’s condition. People will notice and ask how it came about. I wonder what we would have done! Cute picture and story about Aliyah.

  2. Thanks for the pic of the cistern with the algae growing on the stone or brick work. Very revealing.
    Will try to implement as much good fruit as possible today, in God’s name.
    Amen to your Prayer for Today Rev DM.
    Love the pic of great granddaughter Aliyah, and how cute of her to say she’d had enough stories in such a loving way.
    Have a blessed day one and all.

  3. I am sure that we all love your most interesting stories (I am unanimous in that!).
    Shalom,
    Graham.

    Galatians 5:22-23 New King James Version (NKJV)

    22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

    My brother was admitted into “emergency” yesterday. He has recently been diagnosed as having sugar diabetes. But he is in denial. He is also non-christian.

    Lord Jesus may your Holy Spirit penetrate his very essence as he travels his earthly path. For Your Honour. For Your Glory. Amen!

    Praying for a glorious day my blog friends. Have a good one.

    • David L as you so faithfully pray for many, I bring your brother before The Lord, that He will reveal himself to your brother and that he will see his need of Jesus, who can walk with him through this new diagnosis of diabetes.

      I know your light and live for The Lord will shine as you minister to your brother. Blesdinfs brother-in-Christ.

    • Thank You, our precious Lord and risen King! We give thanks for our dear brother-in-Christ, David, who so lovingly prays for our well being and calls for blessings upon us as we bring forth our needs on the blog. At thi time, we lift up his brother before You, dear Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, and to the sanctity of the Holy Spirit. We call for Your protection direction and salvation in his life that he may come to know You, Lord. We pray for a blessing of Your spirit upon his life and healing of his body, mind and spirit. For without you we are nothing and with You we are everything. For You are the true vine, Jesus of our existence, and we are your branches. It is through You that we bear fruit and we know that apart from You, we can do nothing. We come together in unity, dear Lord, to pray that David’s brother may come to know be saved and healed by You. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray, amen, amen and amen!

  5. It is always interesting to think about the moral behind the story. Whether humorous or tinged with seriousness, there is often something which can serve to teach us a lesson. 6. Once again Pastor David you have opened yourself up to us…..thank you.

    Aliya is like so many other little ones telling us the truth and in such a loving way.

    We, your blog buddies, love and appreciate your stories, which give encouragement to stand firm, stay in The Word and learn more of what Our Saviour would have us do.

  7. “Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
    There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
    Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
    As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

    “Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
    Morning by morning new mercies I see;
    All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
    “Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
    2
    Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
    Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
    Join with all nature in manifold witness
    To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
    3
    Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
    Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
    Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
    Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

    During this morning’s swim, the waves were a bit choppy but rested flat enough that I could sing, as I sometimes do–church songs as I swim. Great is thy faithfulness, today, and people walking along shore of Lake Ontario Park heard me singing–a lovely Christian melody! All for Your glory and honour, in praise of You, our Heavenly King!

  8. Hahahaah! She would grow to love your stories more and more as she grows older by His grace. I find your stories very interesting and I always look forward to a new one! May the Good Lord give us all a testimony this day and be our leader in everything we say, think or do. God bless us all and thank you again Pst. David Mainse

  9. I do enjoy reading the blog everyday, I love your stories Pastor Davjd, I have one for you. Many years ago I came to Huntley Street with a group from our Church in Georgetown. My son was probably about eight and is now 36 had ask me to give you a hug from him. I explained to you what he had requested and your were so gracious and gave me a hug to take back to him. I will never forget that and of course he was delighted. I will be praying for the requests which were mentioned in today’s blog. We all know God answers our prayer as Pastor David is a living example . God Bless all of you . Ekeanor

  10. beautiful sunburst of colours…thank you Reynold…

    In their innocent way children speak truth…and your gg-daughter did it with love.
    however, please don’t stop sharing your stories with us in this blog, especially those your Dad shared with you.

    What a truth this Chapter of Mark speaks…what goes into the stomach is not what defiles man, but what comes out…from the heart the mouth speaks…either good or bad; and I pray and believe that because Jesus lives in me and I in Him…the fruit of the Spirit abides in me…Thank you Jesus!

  11. Always enjoy your stories David and that is a cute picture of Aliyah. Trust you had good success at your appointment, Beverlee. I am just getting to the blog tonight due to busy living and computer problems. I’ll pray for you, dear sister and your brother, David L.
