THE INVITATION

Today’s Reading: Matthew 11

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

A view of the Jordan River south of the Galilee.

Key Verse: Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest

The next two verses show how that “rest” is experienced. No doubt Jesus had fashioned perfectly fitting wooden yokes for oxen in order for them to fulfill their purpose in life. The hands of the Carpenter are still busy carefully fitting you for service. Jesus invites you now to “Learn from Me.” And the result is … “You will find rest for your souls.” The book of Isaiah is filled with personal pronouns which could only be replaced with the Name of Jesus. If you find time, read Isaiah 55. Meditate on the invitation to “Come” and on the results of coming to the Lord.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Father in Heaven, Your Son and my Saviour says “Come to Me.” Here I am. I’m Yours now and forever. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

As a teenager I walked down the aisle at a “Youth for Christ” rally to give my life to Jesus. An older man stood beside me, asked me my name, and said, “David, have you come to Jesus tonight?” I answered, “Yes.” Then he opened his Bible and asked me to read John 6:37. I read out loud the words of Jesus, “The one who comes to Me, I will by no means cast out.” Then the man said, “Now David, what does Jesus do?” I answered, “He receives me.” The next day I said that promise over and over. It’s a fact; I have come to Him. I am His!

One with Christ and with all who have come to Him,

David

Breakfast yesterday morning with Jo. The most enthusiastic waitress I've ever met! She took down from the wall a picture of some bikers. Film crew members Dan and Elijah are doing a great job. Crossroads is in the process of producing a documentary on my motorcycle trip.

I had a great visit yesterday with my nephew, Dr. David Thompson and his wife Carla in Peru, Indiana. I expect to reach Niagara Falls tomorrow, God willing!

On the road again. I can't begin to give enough thanks to God and the people who have prayed for me. This almost 80-year-old man is filled with joy in the journey, along with a sense of wholeness, both spiritually and physically.

“90 Minutes in Heaven” by Don Piper sounds like a good book. Thank you 100 Huntley.
Beautiful pic of the Jordan River.
So happy for your exciting trip and wellbeing. Looking forward to the documentary. What an honour to meet all those people along the way.
Matthew 11:28-30 are such peaceful and reassuring passages to weary souls.
    Blessings to all.

  11. Wow! Wonderful joy and blessing from God on you, David. Continual prayers for your safety right to your destination. Beautiful picture of the Jordan River and verse in Isaiah 55:12″
For you shall go out with joy,
    And be led forth with peace;
The mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing’
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Trust and pray you do well with your dieting, Donna M. Blessings everyone!

  12. I’ve followed your earlier 2-year blog and am started on the new one. I read it every day. If, for any reason I don’t get to it one day I double it up the next day. I’m especially interested in your motorcycle ride because you are my age except for a few months and have followed 100 Huntley Street since it started. In fact, I have copies of the EPBC yearbook for your years there. I had close friends attending at the time.
God bless you and Norma Jean and give you many more years together.
    Bertha Stride

  13. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
I am so blessed by your love and faithfulness to Jesus, David. It encourages me to keep pressing in
and pressing on with Him. He is teaching me to look for Him in little details of life, like sanding a rough board that brings forth the beauty that lies within.
Hidden treasures are often found under rough exteriors. I praise God He is working in me and family members to reveal those hidden treasures.
Thank you God and thank you David.

  14. Isaiah 55 hits the nail right on the head! Amen!

Even though it is our Lord Jesus speaking – in today’s reading in Matthew 11 verses 11-15 does it make more sense when we replace “the kingdom of heaven” with “the Lord Jesus”?

David Mainse, I can see Christ with you as you ride… Enjoy the ride… Amen!

“This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it…” Have a great day bloggers…

  15. Hi David, Thanks for showing us the photos of your journey back to Canada. it makes us feel that we are there with you! You manage to use everything you do to bring glory to God! You are a wonderful example to us all! Thank you for your faithfulness in bringing the Blog to us every morning, if the great John the Baptist had a time of stumbling in his faith in crisis and expectation, we too need to keep our focus on the Lord, renewing our minds each day for revelation through the incredible word of God, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Blessings Everyone!

  16. First, the beautiful picture by Reynold gives me a sense of peace.
Then Isaiah 55 says it all.
And your wonderful God filled journey home Pastor David, meeting so many and sharing The Word.
All of this encourages me to remain in the loving arms of my Saviour Jesus . He has made many of my burdens light as I have turned them over to Him.

Honour praise and glory belong to Him.

Be safe on your remaining journey and our prayers go with you.

  17. I have listened to you since 1974 and David, you are such an inspiration. Thank you for sending out those cards to invite people to join 100 words blog, I have given them out!

Keep up the good work. I would ask prayers for my brother Don Ashton who is 79 recently lost his beautiful wife and does not know God.

  18. David I am filled with praise when I see you so healthy and happy.
When I look at your beaming face I see Jesus, Joy unspeakable and
    Full of glory.
    Blessings
    Helen

  24. Hi,David,my buddy,an avid biker with Parkinson’s,has traveled solo from NS to Little Rock,AR (visiting singer/Pst Kevin Riley),then CMA at Iron Mtn. yada yada yada and is now in Kelona,BC visiting famly, soon to return across Canada. He has found this trip very difficult and will likely be his last long trip via motorcycle.
I emailed him about your trip northward half expecting him to leave and link up with you.His bike,an ST 1300,looks like a small version of yours (same colour).
Now,my true motive for posting is this poem I wrote for you last year.If you like it,do as you please with it.I subscribed to100 Words late last summer (?) and have been well nourished.Thank you and may God bless
(I try never to put a period after ‘God bless’,as a period denotes finality and there is no end to His blessings, period, pun intentional.)
    In The Blood (4 Pst.David Mainse )

I pray for healing in the blood,oh Lord,
I pray You will stretch out your hand,
That You,my Lord, with Your fiery sword,
Will show justice and not let evil stand.

    I know,my Lord,that Satan has cursed me
And that only you can remove this hex,
For it is you,Most High, that none can see,
Who can take any scourge from our necks.

So I pray for healing in the blood,my God,
That you allow me to serve you,
So as I spread your word all may laud,
The name of the Father in all we do.
