THE ROCK

Today’s Reading: Matthew 7

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

The "Church of the Primacy of St. Peter" on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, Israel. It is built upon a rock known as the place where Jesus prepared breakfast for His disciples, following His resurrection and after Peter said to the others, "I'm going fishing!" They fished all night and caught nothing. Jesus then told them "Cast your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some" (more about this story in John 21).

Key Verse: Matthew 7:24 (NKJV)

“Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Jesus’ disciple Simon listened in person to the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus had given him another name, Peter, or “Rock.” Peter had many lessons to learn before he could stand as a solid rock to deliver the foundational message for Jesus’ church on the day of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church (Acts 2). John Paul II said during his visit to Canada (he spoke French as he was in Quebec City), “Pierre est une petit pierre, mais Jesus est Le Grand Pierre…Peter is a small rock, but Jesus is the Great Rock.” I was listening to the Pope on the radio. He was right! Let us build our lives on “The Great Rock,” the Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord Jesus, My life is being built on You as my sure foundation. On You I am secure forever. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My wife was born in 1939 in a farm house built in 1878. It had solid foundations. Norma-Jean would often spend long periods of prayer in her birth room. Her life, like the house, was unmovable, totally secure. Seven years ago we sold that farm and built a smaller house. I personally helped the builder lay the foundations on solid rock. In the place we built, there is massive rock everywhere. As a 16 year old, I made a lifetime decision. I would build my life on “The Great Rock.” I’ve discovered that He is solid, and I am anchored to Him; He’s rock solid. I believe that no storms of life will ever push me off the secure foundation of Jesus Christ!

Your Brother in Christ,

David

P.S. I wrote a book based on the Sermon on the Mount. It’s called “Journey Into Joy,” and if you’re interested, you can purchase it on our Crossroads e-store here.

P.P.S. Yesterday I was blessed with the arrival of my 9th great-grandchild, born to Todd and Sheryl Neilson (Elaine and Bruce’s daughter). Her name is River June Neilson (8 pounds 2 ounces), and I just had to include a photo (proud great-grandpa.) My grandson Adam Mainse was very perceptive when he said, referring to the baby’s name, “Her great-great-Grandpa (my Dad) was named Roy Lake Mainse. So we had a Lake, now we have a River.” Yea!!!

So we every one praying for a healing . We were just starting to receive three grandchildren. Then in Mar 2014 Sheila went home to be with her Lord. Isaiah 54:10

  4. Congratulations on the new addition to your family, River June Neilson, and what a beautiful photo of Our Lords creation! It certainly is a beautiful time of year to celebrate a birthday! Today’s message comes to us so appropriately on Pentecost Sunday. The Pope has placed into perfect perspective Saint Peter being the small rock from which the first Pope was recognized, and Christ as the big rock from which we stand upon our solid Christian Foundation. By the Holy Spirit we recognize and believe Jesus as Christ, our Messiah. May we all be touch by The Holy Spirits’ flame of renewal as we give glory and praise on this day of Pentecost to Our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!

  9. Congratulations great grandparents! Bravo grandparents, Well done parents and welcome to the very best family The Lord chose for you River June Neilson. May she grow up with passion and love for Christ and May she follow in the foot steps of her great grandpa. Amen!
“Judge not, that ye may not be judge”. Maybe at least 90% of Christians can quote that verse, but how many of us do apply it to our day to day lives? I know I struggle a lot sometimes but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will be able to apply this saying to our day to day lives in Jesus name! May the Good Lord help us to always rely on our solid rock! (Jesus Christ)! Stay blessed my Christian family.

  10. If life were a song the melody would be sweet but sometimes the lyrics can be quite sad. So whatever song today you are singing, one of joy or one of grief, the music of your life is beautiful to the One who hears it all. A birth of a child, a death of a cherished loved one, contrasts yet in God hands both precious and needed to complete a symphony that will play throughout eternity. Praise the Holy conductor– Lord God.

  11. Congratulations!!!!! God has blessed you once again, Rivers are what makes lakes,…so only God knows what HE will make of this precious child, BLESSINGS AND PRAYERS

  12. Amen Donna, such an adorable baby CONGRATULATIONS to all of

  13. Thank you for 100 Words it has helped me to learn more about the Bible.
I thank God for you and your ministry and your staff. Sometimes I feel stress
because I can’t remember all that I read. But, I never went to Bible College
so I forgive myself and just carry on reading your daily blog.

    Thank you
    Blessings

  14. Congratulations on the latest “Great-Grand Child” and congratulations to the Grand Parents and Parents…and to the wee won that has arrived safely…Blessed of the Lord!

Here are the words to the song “The Solid Rock” (on which I stand)
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

“On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand”

When darkness veils His lovely face,
    I rest on His unchanging graced;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
    Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in Him be found:
    Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

  15. Rejoicing with you on the birth of River! What a rich spiritual heritage this precious little girl has. To God be the glory!
