THE THIRD DAY

Suggested Reading: Hosea 5-6

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

The Convent of Pater Noster is on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. It is located at the site of the ruins of the "Eleona" Basilica, built in the 4th Century by Constantine over a cave where, according to tradition, Jesus taught the "Our Father" ("Pater Noster" in Latin). The walls of this convent are decorated with 140 large ceramic tiles, each one inscribed with the Lord's Prayer in a different language. (Matthew 6:9-13)

Key Verses: Hosea 6:1-2

“Come and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind is up. After two days, He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.”

The prophets of God were given insight into the judgment for sin that God would place on His Son, Jesus, Son of God and Son of man. Jesus was torn and stricken in our place. But through Him, God heals us and binds up our wounds, and then there is the resurrection of Jesus “on the third day.” Hosea was a contemporary of Isaiah. Hosea preached his message to the northern tribes of Israel and Isaiah to the southern tribes. Let’s take the time to read again from Isaiah 53. We can never read often enough Isaiah’s revelation of Jesus, the suffering Saviour.

God sent Hosea when Israel was at its lowest point morally and spiritually. Hosea’s message is that God promises to forgive, heal, restore, revive and establish God’s Kingdom, if only they will call upon Him. The northern ten tribes failed to return to God. The result was that they were scattered all over the world by their Assyrian overlords. The history of Israel is in our Bibles so that we may learn and not repeat the same mistakes and thus bring judgment on ourselves. Jesus gave us the “Our Father” prayer which calls out to God these words, “YOUR KINGDOM COME!”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray that I will learn the lessons You are teaching me. Grant grace so that I may put what I’m learning into practice daily. I desire to please You and to live righteously before You! Continue to draw me ever closer to Yourself!! I pray this in the Name of the One who always loved and served You at 100%, my Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

There is only one city on earth for which the Bible specifically tells me to pray. That’s Jerusalem! (read Psalm 122). I’ve been praying for Jerusalem fervently over the past few days. More than 1,000,000 Jews and Arabs live in that great city today. The clearly-spoken threats of annihilation by Iran (formerly Persia) hang like a sword over their heads. As I write this, Israel has closed her embassies in more than 100 countries. Officially, this is because of threatened strikes by foreign service workers in those embassies, but I can’t help but wonder if there is another reason that has to do with the safety of the Israeli citizens all over the world. A few years ago, when Iraq (Babylon) was about to complete their nuclear facilities, Israel bombed their reactor in what they considered a preemptive strike. Iran is about to complete their development of nuclear weapons grade uranium. I wonder and I pray.

Norma-Jean, Ron, Ann, and I are still planning on leading a group of our friends (you who read this are most certainly our friends) to Jerusalem and Israel this coming November, God willing (click here for more info and to download our tour brochure). Of course we won’t go if there is any serious danger, but we will plan for God to answer our prayers with “the peace of Jerusalem.” I can hardly wait to be there once again in the very city where, on “THE THIRD DAY,” Jesus arose from the dead and lives forever to, as Hebrews 7:25 says, pray for “those who have come to God through Him.” That includes me! Hallelujah!!!

Yours for encouraging prayer for “the peace of Jerusalem!!!”

David

  1. Father God — gathered – together in the – Holy Name of your Precious sun Jesus. (WE) ask, with all our might, for YOU to intercede , on behalf of your dear people in the hole world and especially your children in Jerusalem . May your Kingdom come here on this old earth. Alleviate the pain and suffering in your people Lord. Lift up and comfort the hurting soles . Reach into the harts of the dear ones who are lost and guide them to your light. In Jesus Precious name. God bless us every one.

  2. God bless you David and your precious family. Thank you four your faithful service in God’s army . Fight on mighty warier. Fight the good fight. It is definitely a war against evil. How do we pray as we ought , when we see such devastation around us. BUT that is exactly what the devil wants, for us to think we are defeated , WE know Jesus has this old war won. Fill us Lord with your Holy Spirit to be on your fighting side .Open our minds and eyes to see your will. Open our hearts to do your will. Show us Lord as individuals what you would have us do. Please HELP Lord.

  3. Lord, strengthen those who have been diagnosed with cancer or are in the early stages of diagnosis. As April is approaching, may we see the daffodil as not just a flower, but a symbol of strength and courage, a symbol of new life regenerated. A hope and determination that in Your glory the fight against cancer can be fought and won. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

    • Father God We ask you, reveal the cure for cancer, to the doctors , and heel the precious people with that horrible disease. It is taking far to many far to soon. Me dear Mom died ,far to young, 23 year ago from that horrible thing . Reveal to us Lord what is the cause of so much of it these days . Is it the way we eat ? Is it the processed food? Open our minds Lord and reveal to us the problem.

  4. I just went back and read Isaiah 53 again and I am thinking of how Jesus said we will do greater things than he. How is that possible . But you said it Lord , make it so, ( Make it so.) yes MAKE- IT- SO.

  5. First of all, thank you for your faithful blog which after my personal devotions is my morning inspiration & gift from God Himself. I have learned so much & shared it with so many others. My father, Norm Hare, was an evangelical minister in the United Church of Canada. He passed away in 2005 not knowing that he had some Jewish roots. He & my mother Edna carefully taught the Old Testament & the Bible to my sister & I as children. One recurring prompt throughout our lives from him was, ” Girls, pray for the peace of Jerusalem!!!” Dad talked about it with whoever would listen, he preached about it from the pulpit & in 1981 he & my Mom went on a tour to Israel. They said it changed their lives. When I was older I went to art school to train in animation & after many years of this reminder, I was inspired one day to paint a triptych entitled, “Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem’. Unfortunately I can’t seem to post it here but you can see it on the art network I belong to on the link I have posted. It is interesting the reaction of viewers. Shortly after completion, I showed this work at an art show at St. Mark’s Anglican church ‘Millennium Liturgical Art’ in 2000 & a lady from Wisconsin walked through, laughed & said, “Why would anyone paint THAT?!! Other saw it & it brought tears to their eyes & touched them deeply. My husband Jim & I are praying for God’s guidance that we can join the tour this November with you to Israel. My birthday is Nov 22nd & I couldn’t imagine a better present than being with a company of fellow believers on our way to Jerusalem!!! God bless you!

    • God bless you dear one I pray that you get to go. I have a special space in my heat for artists. I also have been an artist since child hood and have painted some inspirational pictures but nothing like yours. My family has been trying to encourage me to get back at my painting. I have been asking God to inspire me but it is just not happening. Please send a little prayer my way.

  6. Always praying for the peace of Jerusalem and that the Lord would send forth labourers into the fields (all the fields).

  7. Good Morning….Greetings in the Name of Jesus. I want to thank you for your commitment to this blog every morning. I pray that God will richly bless you and your family. This morning as I saw the picture of this convent, I was reminded of my visit there in Sept 1995. It is a visit that I will never forget, every time I participate in Communion at our assembly, I remember participating in communion at the Garden Tomb. We had the honor of meeting you in King David Hotel where the Pentecostal Assemblies were holding their conference of which we were a part of, we also had a tour of Israel at the same time.
May God continue to uphold you in his right hand and keep you healthy to continue in the work that God has placed you. God Bless!

  8. I too pray for peace for Isreal, both for their mind and soul.
Also pray, Rev. Mainse, that your annual trip to Jerusalem will continue as planned with as many souls as possible.
With further study, I hope to understand why Iran, Iraq and Middle Easterners all hate each other. Can it all be over religion?
God bless us all this wintry day.

  9. A beautiful pic of you David, Norma-Jean, Ron, and Ann in Jerusalem last year…

Interesting news about Israel closing their embassies in more than 100 countries…
Are they preparing for what’s about to come?

Father God, we call upon You to open our eyes, heal our brethren, shield us from oppression, fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that Your Will would be done in and through us for Your Honour and Glory in Jesus name – Amen!

  10. Last Sunday, as part of the regular prayers for the people, we at St John’s, Prescott, prayed for “Peace in Jerusalem”.
I now pray that the Holy Spirit guide the Pope and the US President as they meet and lead us in this fragmented world with so little forgiveness.
    Shalom,
    Graham.

PS Great picture of your 2013 visit to the Garden Tomb.

    • I noticed this too Patricia. But the audio reads 1 John 5. A glitch in system perhaps or maybe the Lord wants us to read this chapter today? 🙂 Either way, it is all good manna.

  11. Was thinking about praying for the peace of Jesusalem and salvation of Israel this morning and then read your blog, David and realize again how important it is. Thank you for bringing this blog to us each day so faithfully, David, Norma-Jean, Ron, Ann, Reynold. All of you are an inspiration to us. God bless you and all fellow bloggers.

  12. Mr. Mainse be thankful that God has healed you and that you can do the work that glorifies our Triune God! I enjoy the blog very much, I needed this to help discipline myself to reading the Word every day…..be thankful and don ‘t question God! You are an encourager for many others. I am praying that another idea will come to you when you finish the 2 year dateline…..I sure would like to see you continue in this manner, perhaps not every day but something……..I believe God will direct you and that those of us who enjoy this blog will look forward to more of the same. Be thankful. Be blessed. Be encouraged. Be still and wait to hear what God wants you to do next. Thank you. God bless you and your wife…
