A beautiful sunrise over the Sea of Galilee. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork (Psalm 19:1).

Key Verses: Psalm 19:1-3

The heavens declare the glory of God;

And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Day unto day utters speech,

And night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language

Where their voice is not heard.

Francis Collins, physician, scientist, and leader of the successful project to map the human genome, wrote in his book “Belief” the following statement: “These arguments from the observed order of the universe are compelling [he has just stated scientific reasons as to why he is a believer in the Creator God], but they say little about whether such a “creator” God would be interested in human beings.” King David, inspired by the Creator God, acknowledges that the heavens and the earth, the universe itself, speak in every language to all people everywhere! Then David points all who hear or sing Psalm 19 to the fact that God is “interested in human beings.” God has communicated to us in the “law,” and in “testimony” (19:7). God has given us “statutes” and “the commandment” (19:8). These verses teach us that the Word of God not only communicates the thoughts of God, but they bring conversion, wisdom, rejoicing, and enlightenment!

These are the reasons for this blog! When we grasp the fact that God wants us to know Him (not just knowledge of His physical universe, but to know Him and His thoughts), we can begin to understand that God’s Words in His Book are, “more to be desired than gold,” “sweeter than honey,” and “in keeping them there is great reward” (19:10-11).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, Psalm 20 uses the word “may” seven times as a prayer. May King David’s written words be my prayer too, dear Lord, as I make them personal to me. I believe that You do “answer in the day of trouble;” You do “help…strengthen…remember…fulfill all your (my) purpose” (for my existence). Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In the 1990s, Crossroads published 8 books, one for each season over a two-year period. The titles of all of these books were Day unto Day, taken from Psalm 19:2. They had the same purpose as this blog, i.e. getting the Word of God into the hearts and minds of people everywhere on a daily basis. Two of our team members at the time wrote the daily commentaries. Rev. Nizar Shaheen covered the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), and Rev. Jim Cantelon covered the Greek Scriptures (the New Testament). Simultaneously with the publication of these books, Jim and Nizar gave daily teachings on each Bible reading on television. These TV segments were filmed on locations as close as possible to the Biblical sites where the events described in the Bible took place. As the host of100 Huntley Street, I arranged for these to be carried daily. We repeated them twice over a four-year period. We found in our video archives the Day Unto Day segment from 1991 for today’s reading, Psalms 19-20 (click here to watch…I just noticed a bit of a surprise at the end!). I hope to see this inspirational two-year video journey placed on the internet, perhaps beginning after we complete this blog journey next June 3rd, 2014.

Also I must thank God for Psalm 19 particularly, as it was verses 1 & 2 which God used in 1977 to confirm to me that Crossroads was to add a DAILY live voice to our weekly TV productions of Crossroads and Circle Square for children. That daily live voice was named after the address of the studio building in downtown Toronto, “100 Huntley Street.” Now, for over 36 years on TV, “day unto day” and “night unto night,” there has been a voice speaking words about God. We’ve also done productions in 18 languages which have been seen on TV in over 50 countries, and now with “Crossroads 360,” our 7 internet channels are available everywhere. We have graduates of our School of Broadcasting in over 80 countries, and in many of these areas our grads are producing television in a variety of languages which take “their words to the end of the world” (Psalm 19:4).

Yours for listening daily and nightly to our communicating God,

David

  1. I am so thankful for the Psalms. The writers of these words could express their thoughts and images as no other single piece of literature ever could. Isn’t it a shame that the Bible is no longer taught in our schools, If only for literary purposes? A.W. Tozer once stated that “Nothing twists and deforms the soul more than a low or unworthy conception of God”. I would contend that the beauty and style of of God’s Word, particularly as reflected in the Psalms are so uplifting, enlightening and edifying to the soul, it’s as if they alone bring you to the very foot of God’s throne on high!

  2. The heavens are so beautiful to look at each star set in place and the clouds on a beautiful day speaks to me and the so many species of birds so you know God made each and every little thing and they are all different Lord God help us all to see you in everything in Jesus name Amen

  3. I used to tell my young grandchildren that God made the beautiful wildflowers (and beautiful weeds) for the poor people who could not afford to buy flowers from the florist! They beautify the rugged countryside and the rocky crevas. You are an amazing Creator Lord. Thank You.

  4. It was wonderful hearing the Day after Day segment for today’s reading. I especially liked the discription about how our Lord communicates both universally and personally, through creation and His word. What a full heritage 100 Huntley Street has!! And, to just think about how the gospel is being delivered worldwide by graduates, is stunning. I appreciate your message more day-by-day, since the beginning of Matthew. Have a great day to all!

  5. I am excited about the prospect of going through the Psalms, and as Scott said they are edifying to our soulsl

When we go north to the cottage on a clear night millions of stars appear and once again we see the marvel of our Creator and Lord. His wonder is all around us but His Word is so precious and I am thankful every day for the blessing of this blog. Thank you Pastor David and fellow saints.

  6. Praise God for the Word which has gotten in our hearts and minds through 100 Huntley St. I have all those books in my library plus ” Life By Design.” It is only through the grace of God and to His Glory! Thank God for the faithfulness of his servants everywhere.

  7. Thank you so much for the Day unto Day segment, and the spoken words.
The last verse of Psalm 19 has spoken to me many times. All that we say and do, may it be acceptable in the Lord’s sight.
May you all have a grace-filled day!

  8. I expect Moira also had a surprise today!
Can’t wait for the full archive video.
    Shalom,

  9. Praise God for those who speak the Word of the Lord to a hurting world day and night! I pray God would help me and my fellow bloggers to speak the Word of God outloud to someone, somewhere everyday. God has blessed us beyond measure to have such an honor. Have a wonderful day my friends.

  10. I never reply to things but this one particularly touched me. I have a set of the ‘day unto day’books and love them SO much that I searched out another in the thrift stores to eventually give a set to someone -because they were so incredibly well done! (I have many non believing friends and have been hoping you would re-package them 🙂 I live in BC in a subdivision called “sunset ranch” and boy, does it live up to its name all summer long-spectacular sunsets! It makes me praise Him everyday and the books always bring me back to Him. We are so blessed in Canada. Thank you so much!!

  11. One of my favourite posts since the blog began–Psalm 19 and 20! The Day Unto Day video was fantastic! I remember having seen it all those years ago. The depth of your work for the Lord has been displayed, David Mainse! God has used you so mightily to bring His Word into the lives of millions of people around the world and have them develop a personal relationship with Him. The point of life is meaningless without our Lord. I would so look forward to the Day Unto Day video series running after the completion of this blog, next year. And might I say, I loved your hairdo in the video, David Mainse and Moira Brown, as well! Blessings to all, fellow saints!

The glory of God displayed in every living detail on earth. The witness of the existence and creation of God and His Holy Word. We can all know about God just by looking at His creation. v. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect. The law of God refers to the whole inspired work of God and every piece of scripture is perfect. This leads us to know God and develop a deeper relationship. We discover our imperfection but we see the plan of salvation and redemption and this law leads us to Jesus, who fulfilled the law and was perfect. Personal revelation is the most important.

    • The last paragraph came from the words of Nizar Shaheen as he spoke to Jim Cantelon in the video, Day Unto Day. I typed them as I listened. Thank you so much for sharing this video from the archives! Great knowledge! Praise God!!!

  12. I like to start my bible study by looking at the previous days comments just
in case some one has left a late comment. Brad has left comments early this morning on yesterdays blog.

Renald once again you have shared with us another one of your stunningly beautiful photos of Gods creation.Your photos would be a blessing to many if you offered them to viewers of Cross Roads for a donation. Or maybe you could arrange some of your photos into a calendar. I would really enjoy such a calendar and would gladly make a donation to obtain one.

My prayer for to day is that we all encourage and inspire one another in love
that we all may full fill Gods plan for each of our lives.
    In Jesus name Amen !
    M.

    • Amen, M! Let our words to each other be uplifting and seek to bring hope and encouragement for the day. The photos are indeed incredible and I agree with you, would make a fantastic book or calendar for the Crossroads Ministry. God bless your day with loving grace. Let us serve our Lord with fruitful praise!

  14. The beauty and Glory of the Lord is all around us in everything he created and He speaks through all of it if we take the time to ‘hear.’ We might not hear verbal words , but as Psalm 19:4 says: their message has gone out throughout the earth and their words to all the world.’ How great is our God!!
I am leaving tomorrow morning to spend time in just one small part of His beautiful creation, returning at end of the month. I will be out in the wilderness, away from all amenities including internet services, but will continue in the Psalms and play catch-up with this blog when I get back.
