MY REDEEMER, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Suggested Reading: Job 18-19

The Russian Orthodox Convent of the Ascension is located on the Mount of Olives. According to Orthodox tradition, this is the site where Jesus ascended to Heaven 40 days after His resurrection. A chapel behind the church is dedicated to John the Baptist, and according to tradition his head was found in a jar hidden in a cavity under the mosaic floor of an ancient Armenian church. Job said, "He shall stand at last upon the earth." Jesus stood here at His ascension, and he will stand here again at His second coming.

Key Verses: Job 19:25-27

I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

This may be the first time to emphasize three key verses in this blog. They are so refreshing to read! Job has been enveloped in darkness, but suddenly light breaks through! From here on, Job slowly, slowly begins to hear from God.

We too can have truth illuminate our paths as we read His Word and seek the Light of the World, Jesus, in sincere prayer. Let us confess out loud, if possible, Job’s declaration in our key verses!!! This will engrave these words into our hearts and minds. Take time to meditate, concentrating on what God is speaking to us about His purposes for our lives.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). John writes about that light in his first letter to the churches. Let’s read those words found in 1 John 1:4-7 and make a fresh determination to “walk in the light as He (Jesus) is in the light.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for grace to walk so close to the “Light of the world” that I will never “walk in darkness” again. In the Name of Jesus, the true Light for all people, I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In the early 1940’s, my Dad was stranded in Egypt and the Sudan because of the world war, and I had a job to do to help my mother and my two sisters. I had to cross a field, a ditch, and the base line to reach the barn of Stuart White. Mr. White would fill my little pail with milk while he was milking the cows, carefully put the lid back on the pail, and send me off home. This was fine during the long evenings of summer, but in the dark evenings of winter at milking time, it was a different matter. I carried a lantern (no flashlight available) along with my pail. That light was my comfort. At 6, 7 and 8 years old, I was sure there was danger lurking in the shadows. While the pail was by my side, my lantern was as far out in front of me as I could hold it. Because of that light, I safely negotiated the ditch, the fence, (my uncle built a stile, steps over the fence) and crossed the field to the safety of home. What a relief to be home. A cup of warm milk (no refrigerator) would be my reward for bravery. Throughout my life, I’ve desperately needed Jesus, God’s Light here on earth, to walk in security and safety.

Yours for consistently “walking in the Light.”

David

  1. Good morning….Praising that JESUS is the light of my life. I love the song by Debbie Boone “You light up my life”

As you said Pastor David let us make sure we are walking in HIS light.

Blessings to all and may we say like Job19: 25-27 …”.I know that my Redeemer lives, and HE shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me.”

  2. I love your story, David. The Lord was teaching you to be bold and strong at an early age. Remember the chorus:
Be bold, be strong for the Lord Thy God is with thee,
Be bold, be strong, for the Lord Thy God is with thee.
Walking in faith and victory, walking in faith and victory,
For the Lord Thy God is with thee.
Will take your advice about meditation and purposes.
Glad Job is coming out of the doldrums and into the Light. Love that song, “I Know My Redeemer Lives.” Can someone find that video and post it here?

  3. Thank you Thankyou Thankyou Pastor David!! Thankyou Jesus for the continued blessing of Pastor David’s blog!!!!!

  4. What a treasure to find in today’s reading: “For I know that my Redeemer lives”. At this point Job was still in dire circumstances!
Indeed God was Job’s Redeemer, and He still is today because of Jesus Christ who came to redeem the world.
    Blessings to one and all.

  5. Amazing how ‘light’ reveals truth and darkness cannot overcome it. Great story today David, I could almost picture you in my mind trying to safely negotiate the fence with that lantern hah! That walk must have posed quite a challenge at times, especially for a little guy with a lantern in one hand and a bucket of milk in the other!

  6. Praise God, David Mainse! Thank you so much for sharing that story with us. The sincerity in your heart is expressed through the loving kindness of your words–a genuine humbleness. Neither did you complain nor gripe about the difficult circumstances faced in your childhood. Rather, you embraced your experience with God as your guiding light. Amen!

How Great is our God, Chris Tomlin

The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty,
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.

He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide.
And trembles at His voice, trembles at His voice.

How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God.
And all will see, how great, how great is our God.

Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands.
Beginning and the end, beginning and the end.

The God-head, three in one–Father, Spirit, Son.
The lion and the lamb, the lion and the lamb.

How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God.
And all will see, how great, how great is our God.

You’re the name above all names.
You are worthy of all praise.
Our heart will sing, how great, is our God.

How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God.
And all will see, how great, how great is our God.
How great is our God, sing with me, how great is our God.
And all will see, how great, how great is our God.

Name above all names, worthy of our praise,
My heart will sing, how great is our God.

How great is our God, sing with me,
How great is our God, and all will see,
How great, how great is our God.

    God bless you, fellow saints!

I have had my share of Job moments “but ” I deserved them and God knew I needed them. I am greatful for God’s disaplin . Now if things don’t go my way I know it is only for a while and a reason . I also have faith it is for the best in the long run. There for I have the peace that surpasses all under standing.

It was so much harder for Job. He didn’t have the written word. This shows us just how incredible his faith in God was during his time of trouble.

Thank you David and fellow blogers for you insight and love.
    Blessings to all 🙂

  10. When I read your blog today it brought back to mind a song God used to speak to me and comfort me. The Gaithers Vestal Goodman and Buddy Mullins called The Lighthouse. The chorus is And I thank God for the Lighthouse I owe my life to Him. Jesus is the Lighthouse and from the rocks of sin. He has shone the light around me, so that I might clearly see. If it was`nt for the lighthouse, where would this ship be.

  11. Thank you David for your testimony in my mind I could picture you and carrying the lamp . A song I don’t have to write in words because you know it it call
“This Little Light of mine’ it fits just right .
    Have a wonderful day

  12. Thank you David for sharing your story. It reminded me of the time I was concerned for my son David who was 15 at the time, and was with young people he had just met. As I was praying the Lord lead me to Psalm 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is my strength and my life; of whom shall I be afraid? As I meditated on this Psalm
a peace came upon me that David was safe: shortly after David came home safe and sound.
Yes, I know that my Redeemer live and I will see Him in the last days!!! Amen and Amen!!!

  13. I loved that story of you going for a pail of milk. It reminded me of a time when I was going for a pail of milk from a near by farm. There was a very scary growling very big german shepard guarding the farm.

  14. Thank you Pastor David, it is the end of my busy day and I am so blessed by your story and pail of milk, how God uses everything for His purpose, I can see the prayers during those trips were heard.

God continues to bless you and your ministry! I join you in prayer!

  15. Yes David, I really love your blog and your stories. Also my husband and I are really enjoying reading Job together. Your blog indeed is and has been a Blessing to us!!
