Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 22:12

And he (Joash) was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Jehu was carrying out judgment on the land. Ahaziah was caught and killed because, as they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat who sought the Lord with all his heart” (22:9). It seemed as if all the descendants of Jehoshaphat were to be slain, but into the picture stepped Jehoshabeth, the king’s daughter. She rescued Joash, then one year old, and hid him in the Temple. Six years later Joash was anointed king. The enemies of God will try to thwart God’s plan, but it was not God’s will for the righteous influence in the royal family to cease. God had prepared Jehoshabeth and Jehoiada, the high priest, to intervene. Joash was hidden in the Temple for six years.

We learn from this story of God’s love and His power to provide for His people. Sometimes we wonder how God could possibly make a way through a seemingly impossible situation. But He does! For a New Testament reading today, we may want to read about what would seem to be an impossible situation, the shipwreck of Acts 27:13-44.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I need to learn to be hidden in Your place of safety where the enemy cannot find me. I pray with King David, “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You. When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:1-3). In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

This morning I’ve been singing two hymns, “Rock of Ages” and “Hiding in Thee.” The words of the first are, “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee,” and the second are, “Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee, thou blessed Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee” (click here for a medley of these two beautiful hymns). There have been times when I had to hide from the pressures and influences of the world. One such occasion was when a sergeant of the Hamilton, Ontario City Police told me that the average age of the lawbreaker with whom they were dealing was just 12. My heart was broken for the children of our city. I withdrew to my bedroom for a week to fast and pray. Norma-Jean would bring me water and join me from time to time. Directly out of that time of hiding in God came our children’s television ministry Circle Square, and out of those telecasts came the Circle Square Ranches.

I’ve been very busy this past Spring, particularly in the month of June. This Summer, other than writing this daily blog, I intend to “hide away” and spend much more time hiding in God’s presence. I turn 77 on August 13th, and I need to hear from God about the future.

Yours for hiding for a while,

David

P.S. Here are some pictures that Gilles Laframboise, the official RCMP photographer, took Sunday evening before and during the Musical Ride. Norma-Jean and I were honoured to ride in the landau (carriage) and sit at the front of the viewing stand.

I love keeping up with your blog David ….and am thankful for all you include….I thank the ones particularly last month that joined with me in a prayer for a friend Brenda…in regards to her sister Gloria who is diagnosed with terminal cancer, does not know the Lord and who was not allowing any communication with her sister….as Brenda was desperate to share Jesus ….this was a difficult and sad situation…seemed impossible..and now since this past week God has made a way and is answering…starting with opening up those lines of communication once more…and now the tears of joy and thankfulness were flowing….P.T.L.

  6. Hi David, Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos this morning. What an exciting time you have just experienced! You and Norma-Jean look so happy! God is good! In our reading for today Father God is so longsuffering but had a plan to remove the wicked Athaliah from control of Judah, and to bring forth little Joash, which gave influence to the Godly priest Jehoiada. God always has a plan for good! There is nothing too hard for our God! Have a great day everyone!

  13. Dear Pastor David and all fellow bloggers,

Miss writing the blog to you all as my kids had been off for the summer and been kept away from using the computer. Please pray for me this coming Sat. as I will have my another CT scan and ultrasound to check the update of my cancer growth, and next Thursday July 11th I will review the results with my oncologist.

Yesterday is my son’s 8th year old birthday. When we asked him to make a wish before blowing the candles, he said, “I wish my mommy will get better and my grannies will know the Lord and I’ll do okay in Grade 3”. I’m truly touched by his love and care for me, and also his care for my parents’ getting saved by Jesus. I praised the Lord for sending His Spirit to let faith make root in his little heart.

I pray that God will witness for Himself by answering my son’s birthday prayer, yet according to His timing and His will, for the sake of His name and His glory.

thanks in advance for all your faithful prayers!!

    “Bedrock Confidence” in our Lord,

    Janet

  14. What wonderful photos and what a beautiful couple both inside and out! I learn so much from your daily blog. It really makes difficult passages much easier to understand.
Blessings and prayers to you and all of your family.

  15. Praise The Lord. David and Norma -Jean are such a fairy tale romance. Disney has nothing on them. Such a handsom couple. They seem to age like a fine wine.

Thank you David and Norma-Jean for sharing those precious moments in your busy lives with us.
    Love and prayers
    M. 🙂
