Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 20:3

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

Jehoshaphat had learned a very hard lesson! When the next crisis came, he began to pray with fasting before he made his plans for battle. After his bad experience with King Ahab, the attack of the Moabites and the Ammonites sent him straight to God. Prior to this he traveled throughout his kingdom and into some territories of the northern kingdom as well, teaching the things of God and bringing the people “back to the Lord God of their fathers” (19:4). Imagine, a political leader who was also a teacher/evangelist. Here in Canada (today is Canada’s birthday) we’ve come close to this model with at least three of our leaders. Our second Prime Minister, Alexander MacKenzie, was a man of God who not only taught the things of God, but it is recorded that he prayed three times a day, out loud, on his knees with his office door open. The staff crowded around the door to listen in and say “amen” at the conclusion of his prayers. According to the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, our first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, found Jesus later in life. He even did some preaching at the great camp meeting in Grimsby, Ontario. Of course, who can forget the longest serving Premier of any Canadian Province, The Hon. Ernest C. Manning, who preached the Word of God on Radio across Canada for 40 years every Sunday morning on what he called “Canada’s National Back to the Bible Hour.” God blessed the leadership of Jehoshaphat, and He promises to bless us too as we learn the lessons for Godly leadership.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray on this, the birthday of our country, for Your blessing on our land. Have Your way Lord! Keep this land glorious and free! Please raise up men and women in whose lives You are Lord! Put it in their hearts and minds to lead in “paths of righteousness for Your Name’s sake.” Please forgive me for my failure to stand more firmly for Your will to be done in my country as it is in Heaven. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Last evening, Norma-Jean and I had the honour of riding in the landau (carriage) as guests of honour of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at their Musical Ride. The magnificent horses performed in an arena with God providing a glorious sunset here in Ottawa. We were the guests of the Chief Superintendent Commanding Officer, National Headquarters of the RCMP, Ronald Mostrey. We were celebrating in this event 50 years of achievement of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Canada. This award encourages young people ages 14 to 25, including youth at risk, to make a difference while exploring their potential, taking on new challenges and finding success. The fund raises money to help in the transformation of the lives of youth at risk, by developing local community programs in support of child safety, drug awareness, crime prevention, literacy, internet safety, anti-bullying, and victim assistance. I encourage all blog readers to make a donation to the RCMP Foundation, a charity established for this purpose. The RCMP fund and more information can be found at WWW.rcmp-f.ca, and when you go on line click “about us” and then click the “donate now” button. I’m so impressed with the good works of this charity that Norma-Jean and I are sending a gift. This could be considered a birthday gift to Canada on her 146th birthday. Happy birthday Canada!!!

Also when this blog is posted this morning at 6 a.m., I intend to walk over to Parliament Hill and pray my way around the centre block before returning to our hotel room for breakfast with Norma-Jean. Later today, we’ll both join the throngs on the Hill. I plan to do as the priests did in today’s reading, “Sing to the Lord,” praising “the beauty of His holiness” by shouting with a voice “loud and high” (verses 20:19-21). Of course, the noise from the gigantic loud speakers may mean that only God and Norma-Jean will hear me. I’m asking every reader to do the same today wherever you are. Heaven and Hell will hear you and Heaven will win the battle. “God keep our land!”

Yours for God to bless the lands were we live and the lands of our births all over the world, Amen!!!!!!!!

David

P.S. Later this week on 100 Huntley Street you may see some video that was shot at the RCMP event. Be sure to check out the daily TV ministry (visit www.100huntley.com)…and perhaps I’ll post some photos as well.

  1. How wonderful for you and Norma Jean to be honoured in this way!! So thrilled that God has favoured you and had used you so mightily for his glory and purposes in our dear land of Canada!! May his favour continue to surround you as with a shield Ps 5:12 Happy Canada Day !!!

  2. I’m starting my Canada Day reading this blog. It is truly inspiring to hear about some of the many Godly leaders in our nation’s past. It is my prayer that our Lord will continue to inspire Godly men and women to seek out political office in order to witness to the truth- our nation is only as strong as our ability to listen and heed God’s ways. I will to do as David asked and find time today to sing praises to God for all He has done for our country and will continue to do as we seek His face. Amen.

    Happy Canada Day.

  3. We are so blessed to be citizens of Canada and children of God! Loved the photos of you and your family at the football game, yesterday, David. You all looked great!

Today’s reading exemplifies the essence of prayer and fasting for spiritual strength and favour with the Lord; it helps us stay strengthened in our connection to Him and to hear only His voice.

Let us bow down in thanksgiving and worship the Lord, our God, for His continuous love in our amazing country, Canada. God keep our land, glorious and free!

    Give thanks to the Lord
    For His love endures forever!

    Happy Canada Day, fellow saints!

  4. Today we continue to see the struggle inherent in all humankind, that struggle being one of sin. In this reading it is evident that Jehoshaphat walked closely with His Lord, for he taught and led by example, the people believed and God protected them in their time of trouble. Yet, as many that walked before him and were surely to follow after him, he wavered in devotion and failed to seek his Lord for guidance in important decisions. He obviously fell into sin and turned his eyes away from the Lord. A story of contrasts … a story about us all?

I was speaking with a clergy friend of mine the other day, and he said to me, speaking in general terms, “Where have all the strong, principled, Godly leaders gone? It seems as though political correctness, appearance and opinion polls hold a greater value in leadership than anything else this day”. I hope this isn’t true, but you know, He might be on to something. We’ve seen in our generation a sharp decline in morals and Godly principles in society, it is evident in modern Western civilization that we have truly forsaken our ‘first love’. Our founding Fathers so believed in God as to have placed over the east window to the Peace Tower at the Parliament Building, Psalm 72:8 “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea” and over the south window, Psalm 72:1 “Give the King they judgments, O God, and they righteousness unto the Kings’s son. And over the west window, Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. We live in a great, diverse, prosperous and blessed nation, founded upon Godly principles and precepts. Let’s not lose what our forefathers had envisioned for this land and for this people. I ask all of you to pray to God for the salvation and restoration of our great land of Canada this day. May “God keep our land, glorious and free”. Amen.

Have a very happy Canada Day everyone! 🙂

You deserve it. God is truly blessing you. We love you and hope to see you soon at Pinegrove. We pray everyday for you, Norma Jean and your blog. I want your new book with all the stories. 10. I had never heard before that Sir John A. Had made a confession of faith! Can this be confirmed? I would love to know the source of this info if possible. It excited me to think this is true!

  11. Oh Canada glorious and free……! Yes and did you know this year we were voted
third on the scale of best countries to live in the world. We were prcieded only by
Switzerland and Australia. Sadly according to that pole, I believe it was in an issue of News Max .com that I read the US A has fallen to twenty seventh.

The reasons are what Scott refferd to. We are so close and linked to the USA in more ways than just geography. I pray our leaders will stand strong and keep our policies and agaenda separate from the obvious agenda the present leaders in the US are exacuting .

Dear Lord like your chosen people we here in Canada are few in number but mighty in our convictions. Please keep us safe until the day of the blessed hope.
    The Rapture.
    In Jesus name Amen!
    M. 🙂 a.k.a. Marla
PS Hi Mina so glad you are feeling better . You are in my prayers
