Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:4

…and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

The word “all” stands out in our reading because it is repeated 10 times. Partaking of Christ is an “all” encompassing life. There is no area of our lives not impacted by Christ. In our readings in Genesis through Judges, we were given examples of how to live and how not to live. Examples are useless unless we learn from them. Here, we learn the following: First, Christ our Rock was stricken for our spiritual drink. Go ahead and drink! Second, we learned not to lust after evil. Third, we are to control our tongues, no murmuring. Fourth, God will not force us to take the escape route He had provided. Fifth, God wants to be not just in our hearts but in every detail of our lives. Sixth, we must do “all” to the glory of God. Seventh, give no offense (don’t offend people); Why? Here’s the bottom line, the result of adding up the totality of our lives, “That they may be saved.” We need to ask ourselves the question …How are we involved in saving precious people who are lost outside of Christ?

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear God, by Your grace given to me, enable me to live so passionately for You that my very life will be an example of Christ, so that my words, those things to which I give my time and my money, will be effective in seeing people saved. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I remember my preacher Dad saying, “They wobble in and wobble out, and leave the people all in doubt.” I don’t remember the occasion. He may have been referring to a politician or perhaps a preacher who spoke moral concepts without the power and authority of God’s Word to prove that he spoke God’s true message. Preparing this blog each morning is leading me more deeply into the mind of God as He expresses His thoughts through the Prophets, the historical record, and in particular, the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles.

As child, I was very impressed by the effort my parents made in order not to give offense to others (10:32). Any chores had to be completed by bedtime on Saturday night. My job was to clean the little stems out of the beans which would be baked for Sunday dinner after church. I also churned butter, brought in firewood, etc. I knew that our entire community, with very few exceptions, attempted to keep the Lord’s day exclusively for worship, listening to the Preacher’s sermons, reading church publications, and perhaps going for a walk in the woods. Things have changed but the principles have not. My Dad prayed every day in family prayers, “O Lord, may the smile of Your approval be upon our lives.”

Yours for living to the Glory of God!

David

P.S. Are you accessing Crossroads360.com on your computer? There is so much to learn here from hundreds of topics. Also, have you ever sent my blog to a friend? I don’t know how to do this, but I’m told it’s done by a couple of clicks. The next generations make it look so easy, I sometimes feel that I’m still in the horse and buggy era. Ha! I’m enjoying myself right where I am.

  1. “Teach us to know that we cannot know, for the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Let faith support us where reason fails, and we shall think because we believe, not in order that we may believe.”

  2. Good morning all. Just forwarded the link. Interesting point St. Paul makes about liberty and our conscience, not that of another. Also one of the most quoted verses in the bible about temptation. Thank you for the seven points you raise today David, adding up to the totality of our lives, that “they may be saved.” Have a great day!

  3. Yes, I have forwarded this blog and I tell many people of it. I do. though, have relationships with many who do not have computers. The voice over is great for friends with sight challenges. Thanks so much “Team 100words”!

God’s work never ceases to amaze me!!!!

  5. Dear David,
I have been reading from the NIV and noticed there were verses missing. I went on Google and found out there are more than 30 verses deliberately omitted. In Revelations John says we are not to add or remove from the Holy Book. Would I be right to consider the NIV version to not be a good one because of what Revelation says?
I usually read from KJV but at times also use NIV
Please let me know if all NIV are omitting these verses or part of a verse and why (if you know).
Thanks and we keep you in our daily prayers.
    God keep blessing you.
Don and I miss you very much
    Love in Christ

  6. Great reading, this morning, and blog posts, as usual. Great to see you on 100 Huntley Street, too, David!!!

    I love Paul’s message in 10:28-33:

“But if anyone should say to you, “This is meat sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience’ sake; I mean not your own conscience, but the other man’s; for why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God; just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.”

All for the glory of God, that we may share His message, so that all will come to know Christ, and be saved.

  7. Great to see you on Huntley Street David…watching you right now, as Ronald shows you how you don’t need that big concordance! 🙂 It is amazing what we can do and look up on computers isn’t it.
    Geat blog, as usual, today.
Looking forward to watching ‘The Bible’ too.

  8. What I find interesting is verse 5 & 6 which says, “But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our examples…”
In other words they all were provided the same spiritual experiences and opportunities but MOST of them did NOT avail themselves of God’s provisions and goodness. This should be a warning to us for we are in the same place today.
“For wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, Old King James)

  9. Thank you again, David, Reynold, and Ron for all you do to bring this Blog to us. It is a joy to my heart and blessing to my spirit.
I have never forwarded this blog to anyone as I do not know how either but I should.
I will find someone to show me how. We need to share this ministry.
God bless to you all and my fellow bloggers.

  10. Dear David,
In today’s blog under ‘100 Words’ you wrote: Preparing this blog each morning is leading me more deeply into the mind of God as He expresses His thoughts through the Prophets, the historical record, and in particular, the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. I am so thankful that God is allowing you to write this blog because it is my spiritual drink each day. Understanding God and living a Christ centered life is not that easy but your blog/words are very helpful to me; it bring joy to my heart and tears to my eyes. Your prayer becomes my prayer too! I too am looking forward to watching ‘The Bible’ on the history channel.
    Have a happy day!

  11. I enjoyed watching 100 Huntley today with my family. It was wonderful to see you David! I am always empressed at how you live with passion and enthusiasm, I wish I had as sharp a memory as yours! Ron & Moira, you make a great team. We are hoping that the Bible series becomes available one day, as we are unable to see it on the History channel.
