POSSESS THE LAND

Suggested Reading: Joshua 18

(click scripture link to read online)

At Timna Park, 20 miles (32 km) north of Eilat in the Arabah, a life-size replica of the biblical Tabernacle has been constructed. While no original materials (e.g., gold, silver, bronze) have been used, the model is accurate in every other way based upon the biblical description.

Key Verses – Joshua 18:1, 3

The whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of meeting there…Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: “How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?”

Just imagine the excitement in the air as all the tribes came together. Think about thousands of animated conversations. Perhaps some said, “If only our parents were here to see this, but they refused to believe that this could happen. They refused to follow the leadership of Moses, Joshua and Caleb. We could’ve been born here in the Promised Land, instead of in the wilderness. Instead of just getting our borders settled, we would’ve been well established for 45 years already. Here we are, gathered around the Tabernacle as we did when we were children on the other side of the Jordan. But listen, Joshua is going to bring us a message from God. It sounds the same as we remember Moses saying to us before we crossed the Jordan. What’s wrong with us? Can we not learn to obey God fully?”

We may want to read, Hebrews 2:1-4 where the word “neglect” shows up again relating to our salvation. Also, “let us not neglect” is found in Hebrews 10:23-25. To neglect the ministry which happens when we assemble together is to court spiritual decline and to miss the essential message God wants us to hear from those He has called into leadership.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, God of our fathers, I believe that I need to possess all that You have given me. Grant me the grace, the determination to go forward, not stopping short of all You have for me. Give me a greater fervency of spirit, because I know that You respond directly in proportion to the level of my fervency. In Jesus’ strong Name I pray. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Thank You to all who have prayed for me. I’m experiencing a great lift spiritually and physically. There were even two messages from right here in Arizona where I am now. I’m always surprised where this blog is going.

I’ve had the honour to meet professionals in the cancer research field who are exceptionally gifted by God, who are believers in Jesus, and who are filled with the Spirit of God. In Paul’s letter to young Timothy, he writes of “stirring up the gift that is in you”; to accomplish this he mentions “the laying on of hands” (2 Tim. 1:6). I’m going to ask for this to happen to me at my first opportunity. There are gifts in me and in all God’s people which need to be stirred up and put to use for God’s purposes in the lives of precious people. I want to know what happens if you do the same. Send me a note. Thanks!

Yours for God’s work in us to continue without neglect,

David

P.S. Here’s Ron from Crossroads360.com with some thoughts on what can happen as we take a page out of Israel’s book and assemble ourselves together (click here).

Yesterday, while in Arizona for my tests and doctors' consultations, I visited the rose red rocks of Sedona. They are similar to the rocks in Petra, or Mount Seir, mentioned in our Joshua readings as the land of Edom, which was the possession of Esau, the brother of Jacob. I expect to receive some Petra photos from Reynold, who was just there. I will share them with you soon.

  1. Praying for you David. Thanks for photos in Holy Land. Scenery in Palms Springs, Ca. looks very similar. My late wife and I enjoyed those views for 12 winters. Hence your photos refresh memories. Thanks David

  2. Spectacular pictures of the rocks of Sedona, and Reynolds of the Tabernacle! It is so good to hear of your encounter with Spirit-filled professionals and you are off to such a healthy start! Thank you for your words of encouragement for a greater fervency of spirit! Have a great day, everyone!

  3. The children of Israel turned their backs on God in almost every generation and had to learn and re-learn the importance of ‘knowing’ God. We too need to realize the importance of ‘knowing’ God through faithful church attendance in a Spirit-filled, Bible teaching & preaching environment, where we can absorb the message and put it into practice. In addition, we need to seek God in prayer and the study of His word. I believe David is correct when he said in reference to God, “…I know You respond, directly in proportion to the level of my fervency.” Wise words of truth. I know it’s truth, because I evidenced this in my own life.

It’s great to see your radiant smile David! I pray for continued blessings in regards to your physical well-being; it’s wonderful what medicine can do in the hands of spirit-filled professionals.

    • amen Scott. And yes, David it is wonderful to see your radiant smile, and what a blessing that you are in the hands of a medical team who are also spirit-filled believers. Remaining in prayer.

  4. What a great message from Ron in the 360 clip. He looked and sounded so much like his dad! 🙂 What a wonderful website! Some of us are more fervent in our expressions in church, than others, and it is well that we show ourselves to God in the ways we need to. Reassuring to be reminded by Ron that Jesus offered up His prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears. We are, after all, each unique individuals, who God created, and not meant to be the same.

Thank you for the photo, David. You look great in front of the red rocks of Sedona! Laying on of loving and prayerful hands in Arizona will be the medicine to heal you. So glad to hear you have felt lifted up physically and spiritually by the prayers everyone continues to send your way.

Wishing everyone a most blessed day!

  5. I agree with Beverlee, and Ron we need to show and to express how we feel in prayer in church wherever that may be church is not a building. Ron does sound like you David. I love those pictures and to see your wonderful smile.
    You are in my prayers
    Lianne Hogg

The Lord is with you, as He was with countless others in His word, and when the Lord was “with” them they prospered and had the victory! God Bless you and Norma Jean and may His healing virtue flow through you from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet! In Jesus MIGHTY Name! Loving you and looking forward to ALL God has in store! “Whosoever shall call on the name of The Lord shall be saved” Acts 2:21 “Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things.” Mathew 25:23

  15. Dear David,
Thank you for your daily blog. It helps me greatly to hear from your heart. It was in 1979 while watching you on television I first realized that I too could have a personal relationship with Jesus. You were smiling back then and still smiling in Arizona. God has many ways to heal. I’m sure we could all learn more from you about keeping healthy. Our North American lifestyle is not always condusive to exceptional health. 20. Dear David,

God has really been speaking to me today. Firstly to get out of my comfort zone in obedience to Him and to have greater fervency of spirit. I was so
moved by today’s Blog, that I felt myself stretching out my hands towards
your body and praying for healing of your entire body from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet in Jesus’ mighty Name.

When I look at the beautiful photos of where God has taken you
surrounding you with so many angels and some of His magnificent creation,
for your healing , all I can say is ‘what a Mighty God we serve’.

Your Blog, David, has been “really really good medicine for me”. May
God complete His healing of your body, soul and spirit and guide you and your wonderful Norma Jean safely home to Canada so you can get back
to finishing the tremendous work He has called you to do, touching millions of lives.

  21. Hello David and Norma Jean,
I enjoy your daily blogs, and when I see you picture David, I pray for total healing in your body. If I remember correctly, I think that you and I are the same age. I turned 77 in January, and God has been so good to Virgil and me. We pray for total healing for you. We know that our God is able.
    Blessings,
    Nina & Virgil Lawrence
