Key Verse: Romans 5:8, 6:23

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us…For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What an encouragement! Sublime truth! When we stand firm on the foundation of God’s truth we truly have peace. We are free from guilt. We move into the future with full confidence in God’s infinite love. Eternal life is ours now. We don’t have to wait until we die to find out where we will spend eternity. This assurance is not presumption. It’s simply and humbly taking God at His Word, confessing that Word, and believing that Word at all times. Amen! Chapter six states the fact that we who believe are dead to sin. Romans 6:11 states the truth that we are to “reckon” ourselves “dead indeed unto sin.” “Reckon” is a mathematical term. Just as sure as 2 X 2 = 4, so it’s a fact that we who believe died with Christ on the Cross. He bore our sins, and us too. The gift of faith enables us to believe this, and that same faith enables us to live our lives as dead to sin and “alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We may want to read these chapters again in the next 24 hours. Let us read slowly and deliberately, soaking in every Word. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I confess the fact that I am dead to sin!!!…and that I’m alive to God. I truly believe this. Therefore, I will not let sin reign in my mortal body. Lord Jesus, You reign as my absolute Monarch. Your power enables me to do only what is right. Thank You for victorious Christian living. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Along with learning and believing the truth that sets me free, I had to learn what John taught in his first epistle, chapter one. I realized that I must make a daily choice to “walk in the light.” Again and again, I read and quote from memory 1st John 1:5-10. If I had not made this truth an integral part of my daily life, I would’ve been discouraged. God’s Word is light. I learned that in order to walk in His light, I must read His Word without fail each day. This blog is my way of turning on a light in the darkness, so that I’ll see the path ahead, not stumbling and falling into sin. John was writing to his fellow believers, reminding them, and himself, that no one can say “we have no sin” and “we have not sinned.” I recognize that I’m far from perfect in my personal life, but at the same time I recognize that I am being constantly cleansed in God’s eyes by the Blood of Jesus Christ. God sees me through the lens of Jesus’ sacrificial death on my behalf. Thank You, thank You, thank You, Jesus!!!!!

Yours for walking every day in the Light of God’s Word,

David

  1. “We too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart, but by that faith which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men.” – (Clement of Rome)

I know that the book of Romans is deep speaking unto deep as it were; many legal terms i.e. justification, sanctification, propitiation etc. are used which can be tough for beginners in the Bible to understand and integrate into their thinking. For those who do have trouble with reading and understanding what is written in the text, may I recommend the New Living Translation Bible (NLT) as a well written vernacular which I believe holds accuracy in meaning without being difficult to read. http://www.newlivingtranslation.com

    • I like to read from the NLT as well…along with the NKJV. I find it helps to clarify some points for me. Whatever version we use, todays reading is awesome stuff. Thank you Lord.

  2. Oh, today’s readings just bring tears to my eyes–every word is so moving! I have read it over and over. Hard to pin it down to one favourite verse, however, was especially touched by Rom 5:18-19.

    Therefore, as through one man

    • Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

      Awesome, awesome, awesome!

  3. There is a sense of completion and totality in Reading Romans 5-6. So much to understand and appreciate in its entirety. Yet the message is clear. Christ died for our sins. We are forgiven for acknowledging the sin we have been responsible for. We are fogiven by Christs sacrifice, death and ressurection. And, we are not to have the attitude that though we are forgiven by grace, we cannot continue to live simply taking advantage of the grace given us. Moreover, we have the assurance of eternal life and can live a safer and more joyful life in His light by the Holy Spirit working within us. Praise God for John 1:9! Amen!!

  4. May God Bless and Keep you,and your Family,David~~~~~ as I also join in with everyone else in saying,”Thank-you,thank-you,Jesus!!

  8. Hi David: I started out lonely lost and broken. As I read Romans 5 & 6, I can remember Romans 5:3-5. The trials were so hard, but I knew I needed to perservere. I knew I needed to build character. I remember saying, dont I have enough yet, because the trials were tough. I am very grateful for those trials now as I have been able to grow in faith and the obedience I need. I totally believe the bible is the true word of God. I now know how much Jesus loves me and I was CHOSEN from the beginning. I am NOT worthless or any of that. Many are surprised how far I have come today, but with Jesus and those he put in my life, I have built perserverance, character, and integrity, into my life. Thanks be to God, I do now have the Hope, and Peace that I know I can only receive through our Lord Jesus Christ. Hope did not disappoint me. I am grateful for the Holy Spirit living in me as now I know I am sealed in God. Romans 6:21-22, I had SO much shame, and guilt I didnt think I could live in this world. Now. I AM FREE, and can live life until the Lord calls me home, my Eternal Home! Praise God, Thankyou God

  9. David, thank you for sharing how you steadfastly stay so aware and focused to remain in God’s light. I am very happy to share with you and the fellowship my beloved Grandmother’s favourite Psalm that kept her immersed in light!

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”.
    [Psalm 119:105]
(Isn’t it wonderfully poignant and to the point!)
