Key Verse: Deuteronomy 1:21

Look, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.

This book is essentially a reminder for the Children of Israel of events and laws already covered in Moses’ first four volumes (Genesis through Numbers). Moses’ final book is called the Deutero-Nomos, the second law. It restates God’s laws and purposes in order to impress the message on hearts and minds.

Moses tells the people in verse 6, “You have dwelt long enough at this mountain” (it looked just like the mountain in Reynold’s picture above). It’s a fact that we are often comfortable where we are and don’t want to confront the mountain. God has delivered us from the past, and now He wants us to move forward into the land flowing with milk and honey which He has promised us. But there is this mountain. Jesus said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed (enough faith to obey), you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matt. 17:20b).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, give me the courage to speak to (not about) this difficulty facing me. I do so now in Your Presence. MOVE!!! Now, I need the grace to move forward. Thank You for the grace You are giving me to obey Your instructions. Here we go Lord! Hallelujah! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

One of the great people God sent to work with me in ministry is Fred Vanstone. He first introduced me to these words in business matters, “moving forward.” He was the son of a miller in Bowmanville, Ontario. He became the #2 man in the bank of British Columbia, then CFO for the Pattison Group. He took on the administration of a University, owned a Vancouver business, and then as we traveled together down a mountain side in the Rocky Mountains, we both knew God had spoken to us that we were to work together as a full-time team. Tears come to my eyes as I think of the amazing administrative gifts Fred brought to Crossroads. The mountain of debt on our 143,000 square foot TV production centre disappeared. The “promised land” of the CTS network of several over-the-air TV stations was licensed by the federal government. Fred now runs a company based in Philadelphia with several thousand employees. Thank you, my friend Fred, and thank you Jim Pattison for sending Fred to us initially. “Moving forward,” the mountain moved out of the way. What God has done on the business side of Crossroads, He is doing constantly in my personal day to day life.

Yours for “moving forward”,

David

  1. That is another great truth David. God does want us to move forward. The church is not an relic of the past, it is a people of God. We may admire church buildings, but this is far from where God wants our main focus. God wants our heart, He wants changed lives, He wants us to reach out from beyond our personal and corporate confines, He wants us to expand the gospel message in new, innovative and often exciting ways. Kind of sounds like the vision at 100 Huntley & Crossroads doesn’t it? Pray and see if God places this ministry on your heart as a worthy place of your support, then “move forward” with Him.

  2. David, you provide A fascinating way to understand the moving of a mountain; us ‘moving forward!’ I’ve never seen, having faith as a mustard seed, as in our volition to move a mountain, from here to there! It is not by telling “it” to simply go away, but it is “in us” to take on the task, and move forward! We therefore gain a different perspective.

  3. Good morning David and fellow bloggers
Jerry and I know all to well how a mountain of debt can obstruct one from putting your resources out there to help further GODS kingdom. GOD moved your 143, square foot mountain what a mirical. And now we see that the proportion of the mountain is synonamous with the amount of out reach that your vision for CrossRoads has and is producing, why the very fact, that, we are bloging this morning for the Lord was made possible because that first mountain
CrossRoads faced was removed. As your vision continues to grow and your out reach expands you will face new mountains at CrossRoads. GOD, heavenly father, we pray for all of the Maines family and all of the people at Cross Roads
that your blessings continue to be upon them in there daily lives and in their work at Cross Roads, may you continue to remove any and all mountains
That come before them. In JESUS name AMEN!

  4. Inspiring words, this morning. With faith, all things are possible. We need put it into action, and move forward. Thank you, David–you have been the perfect example to follow.

    Blessings to everyone, today!

  5. P.S.
GOD is so good. I don’t know where we would be to day if not for our faith. That mountain of debt I spoke of ,has, and is being removed . Thankyou JESUS!

  6. Thank you, David! You have inspired me,in a brand new way this morning
to move ahead! I’m going to put more action in my faith and act on those scripture verses of promise that I know so well! Praying for you and Norma Jean as you continue to give your time and energy to help us!

  7. Thankyou, thankyou, David and fellow bloggers! You have inspired
me once again, to not go around the same old mountain….to forget what is behind
and move forward! We are new creations and His mercies are new every morming.
    Lord, bless your wonderful family.
    Thankyou all Crossroads families.

  8. Thanks be unto God for His wonderful gift:
Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God
is the object of our faith; the only faith
that saves is faith in Him.

Thank you David and the fellow bloggers for the inspiration this morning!!
