Key Verse: Leviticus 8:5

And Moses said to the congregation, “This is what the Lord commanded to be done.”

The first seven chapters of Leviticus speak of the sacrifices. Chapter eight introduces the priesthood. As sinners we need a sacrifice. As believers we need a priest. We have both in Jesus Christ. He offered Himself as the final Sacrifice on the Cross, then He entered the heavenly sanctuary as our Priest. The ear, the thumb, and the big toe represented hearing the Word of God, doing the will of God, and going where God commands. Notice that Moses did not say, “This is expedient, agreeable, suitable or traditionally proper.” He did not lead by consensus. Seven times in this chapter the word “commanded” is used. In tomorrow’s reading, we’ll learn the results of obedience. Here’s a sneak peek…”The glory of the Lord shall appear to you” (Lev. 9:6).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, grant me the grace of strict adherence to Your Word. I find the symbols of Your Priesthood in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of those symbols in Your life and teachings, as described in the Gospels. Thank You that You established “Truth” in these ways. Finally, You confirmed the truth in practice, evident in the lives of believers in the Acts of the Apostles and in the detailed writings of those Apostles. Please sanctify anew my hearing, my doing, and my going. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

While still a teenager, I heard the rector of a local Anglican Church say about the Bible, “Read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the Word of God.” Some statements, such as this one, have been indelibly engraved on my mind. I’ve just read again Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:7-13. You may want to click on those references and read them with me. I understand that God has put His laws in my mind and has written them on my heart. I make myself available to Him to do this every morning. What an amazing privilege to say, “I know Him,” and to be certain that He is merciful to my unrighteousness. My “sins and lawless deeds” He remembers no more!

Yours for putting equal portions of our minds and our hearts into a more thorough understanding of God’s Word,

David

  1. We serve a mighty God! Please allow me to self-indulge for a moment. Yesterday I went for a removal of a gall bladder (gall stones) at a local hospital. My seemingly difficult circumstance simply became a sanctuary of prayer. I spent the better part of the day rejoicing in our Lord and in prayer right there at the hospital. What a remarkably joyous day I experienced! Trust in the Lord and He will make your paths straight. Rejoice in the Lord always, focus on Him alone and as the scriptures state, you can become content in all circumstances. Darkness may come for a time, but daybreak always happens. Rejoice, hope, have faith and the Lord will see you through your tough times; this is His promise to us. Amen!

  2. When I read how Moses touched the right ear, thumb and toe, I was totally perplexed!! Your reason why this was done, HEARING the word, DOING the will of God and GOING where God commands, makes perfect sense. I look forward to tomorrows reading and hope you have a wonderful day. The Autumn colours are beautiful!

  3. Hi David,
I recently found out about 100 words (through 100 Huntley Street) and I have to say that I am enjoying this journey through the bible. I have made it a part of my day.

About Leviticus–I always wondered if we were supposed to be sacrificing Rams and such because it was written in the bible. After reading your posting today I realize (like a fool) that the ultimate sacrifice has already been made. You just have to stay reading Leviticus until the sacrificial instructions have been outlined. Obedience as you explain is what is required now. Major breakthrough for me today. Thanks David and have a wonderful day!

  4. Thank you I have been with you since the beginning and have had so many major breakthroughs. Thank you that you are Praying for us too.I also Pray for you and each person that reads your blog.
    Thanks

  5. Thankyou for this David. I love these Daily reading. This reminded me of another translation which said ” I will Write them them on the Tablet of your Heart ”
It was rather poetic, I thought.

  6. What a blessings to go through your blog every day. I continue to pray that The Lord gives you His strength to continue. I am fighting breast cancer and now going through reconstruction after a mastectomy, but I know The Lord Jesus has been with me and my family continually and will be there always. We are also struggling with as our son is going through a very trying time and has been diagnosed with Bipolar 11 but he loves the Lord and we ask that if it Be God’s will that with the right medicine he will mount up on eagles wings once again. OUR GOD IS ABLE! Praise His name and thank you David for the many years you have built all of us up by your ministry. You too Norma Jean. Yours in the Lord. Catherine

    • Dear Catherine: Re Bipolar Disorder, I urge you to help your son take a nutritional stand against this if at all possible. Good nutrition and multi vitamins and minerals are key, especially Calcium and Magnesium. God made our bodies out of minerals and we need them. Unfortunately our foods are much more mineral deficient in the past few decades due to the use of chemical fertilizers on the commercial crop lands instead of organically building up the soil. These things make a big difference in many cases. All the best….

  7. Dear David: I am getting so much out of your 100 words, blessings, blessings, blessings!!
I guess you could call these relelations MAJOR BREAKTHROUGHS as your other commenters have said!!
Thank you so so much for this, and keep up the good work!!
Love and prayers for you and Norma Jean,
    Catharine
