To Celebrate 50 years of God's faithfulness, Crossroads brought back the life-sized replica of the Tabernacle of Moses and set it up in the back parking lot for the summer of 2012.

Key Verse: Leviticus 7:12

If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer, with the sacrifice of thanksgiving, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, unleavened wafers anointed with oil, or cakes of blended flour mixed with oil.

The sacrificial system was complex. It taught about the holiness of God, the sinfulness of the human family, and the need for sacrificial death in order to reconcile the perfect holiness of God and His forgiveness of sin. The system also made provision for joyful worship such as this thanksgiving offering and feast. Each offering had to include oil, the symbol of the Spirit of God. Let us welcome the Spirit to our celebrations.

Last Thursday, September 27th, we read Luke 24. We considered the reasons why thousands of Jerusalem’s Jews, including many Priests, believed in Jesus’ resurrection. (click here to review that day’s blog). This past weekend I came across an amazing fact according to official Jewish records from that time. The sacrifices for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, were not accepted by God from A.D. 30 until the destruction of the Temple by the Romans in A.D. 70. Check it out here. Jesus’ death and resurrection would have been at Passover A.D. 30, as He was born in 4 B.C, according to the best calculations.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Holy Spirit, please fill me for this new day so that I may bring with joy my offerings of thanksgiving. May I have the grace to celebrate well. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Over the past few days following my Scripture reading, meditation, prayer time and the typing of my blogs, I watched the sky for time. At first the sky was twinkling brightly with many stars. As our “day star” rose in the east, the stars were less and less visible to my eyes. This morning the sky was overcast. Neither the stars nor the sunrise were seen. I decided to read 2 Peter. There I found in 1:19 these words, “We have the prophetic Word made more sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Day Star (original King James Version) rises in your hearts.” I began to sing a song we sang yesterday morning in church. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” The Lord Jesus, our Day Star, shines so brightly that all the lesser lights become invisible. They are still there, but we see Jesus only. To complete my thanksgiving offering, I went into google and found Michael W. Smith worshipping Jesus with this song (click here to view). Join Michael and me in singing this powerful chorus.

Yours for celebrating our Lord and Saviour,

David

  1. Amazing story about the sacrifice of Yom Kippur not being acceptable to God from 30 – 70 AD. Jesus became the acceptable sacrifice, the only worthy atonement for our sin. Just as Jesus walked this physical earth long ago, Jesus promises to be with us (yes, through all our worries, trials, joys and tears) even through to the end of this age.

  2. Thank you for sharing the video’s of Michael Smith’s “Turn your Eye’s Upon Jesus” and about Yom Kippur (odds were phenomenal!). Both were amazing and inspirational!

  3. So wonderful, when we are led to scripture, that fits perfectly, with the situation, at hand. 2 Peter 1:19 couldn’t have described your morning experience, any better.

God bringing us the Word is so amazing that way! At times, it seems as if we have never read a verse before, when it has been in the Bible, all along. What a Glorious God, we serve!

Thank you, so much, David, for such divine inspiration, this morning, as always.
    Have a most blessed day!

  4. Thankyou very much David. I have been introduced to a wonderful new artist & I have learned something new & important…… Have a good Day

  5. Thank you David for your obedience to Christ and your love to him as always.
I was totally blessed this am reading your post.
I must confess since I took my dtrs. to family camp decades ago we used to sleep under the stars. I would wake up surronded by many children. The night sky captivates me since the days when I was first saved. Sometimes coming home after evening service I would look up and my spirit would soar. At times I knew that angels were singing with us.
The other night the moon in the sky was luminous and magnificent. I was in awe once again.
I viewed the youtube video and just praised God and wept
He is so good. What a majestic and merciful God we serve.
I cannot wait to see Him face to face.

  6. We also sang “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” at church yesterday. It was beautiful as we sang an expression of our devotion to our Lord.
We are a small congregation, but we worship with enthusiasm and reverence to our Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ.

  7. hello David…I have been away since the 18th of Sept so I am playing catch-up with your daily blogs. This was a wonderful one to start with and loved the video…very moving, and it is a song I love to sing to myself often. I was out in the wilderness during this time away, and looking at the night sky was so awesome with no city lights to overshadow the stars or dim the moon, listening to the river rippling over the rocks and the salmon splashing as they made their way to spawning area, and in the day watching the majestic eagles, bears and elk and even a wolf one day. It is a beautiful world we live in!
The other day you were wondering just how many would remain following your daily blogs to the end. Well you can count me in the list of followers David. I love incorporating your daily blogs to my own personal time with the Lord. Bless you David. May the Lord continue to be your strength for each day.
