THE WORD OF GOD

Suggested Reading: Luke 4

These hills are part of the Judean wilderness that Jesus likely would have walked through during His 40 days of temptation, as recorded in Luke 4.

Key Verse: Luke 4:4

But Jesus answered him, saying,It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'”

We can be sure that Satan will tempt each one of us. We need to learn the strategy of spiritual warfare employed by Jesus. (1) He was filled with the Holy Spirit. (2) He was filled with the Word of God. (3) He was protected by the armour of God (Eph. 6:10-17). (4) He was constantly in prayer (Eph. 6:18). Remember that Jesus never used His 100% God essence to help Himself. He lived His life as 100% Man; a Man filled with the Word and the Spirit. Psalm 119:11 in Jesus’ Hebrew Bible says, “Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” As we read the Scriptures, having our eyes connected to our brains can provide a head knowledge. That is not sufficient to overcome temptation. God’s Word must move into our minds AND hearts. How to do this? Pray the Word we have read. Ask the Holy Spirit to write that Word on our hearts and minds. Meditate on that Word throughout the day. If we do this, we’ll find that we have memorized the Scripture. Quote the Word in our prayers. Share that Word with someone else. Victory over Satan is ours. Amen!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I praise and worship You! You are victorious over the world, the flesh, and the Devil. I know that You live in me, and therefore I am more than a conqueror too. I pray for Your 24/7 grace to overcome the temptation that Satan brings. Fill me now and always with Your Word and Your Spirit. I believe I am filled and I rejoice in You. Hallelujah! Praise Your Holy Name! You are “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6). Amen and Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

While I can only put a brief prayer here, I continue on with worship. His Presence, which I know is a fact, soon becomes my experience. As I continue to praise Him, I am filled with His Spirit. My new day is off to a great start, and by being conscious of His constant Presence, my entire day is blessed. My Bible College days were important, not only in preparation for future ministry, but also for the daily experience of God’s Presence. Rev. George Griffin was one of my teachers. He taught the first five books of the Bible (the Pentateuch). Somewhere in Leviticus, it can get very dry apart from the Presence of God. Before starting to teach, Rev. Griffin would quietly begin to pray outloud. He would say with such reverence, “Father.” Then he would pause. I would sense the Presence of God moving into the classroom. I weep now as I think of how this man carried God’s Presence in such a way as to open my heart and mind to God’s Word.

Yours for overcoming, victorious living,

David

  1. Thankyou, David for your faithfulness to this calling. It is dark and early(5.00a.m.) out here in rural Alberta. How wonderful to start the day acknowledging
our wonderful heavenly Father and thanking Him for His Son and Holy Spirit!

  2. How wonderful is God’s word? I don’t even think a thousand volumes of commentaries would even begin to scratch the surface of this book which reveals to us the mind, purpose and spirit of God. Without the illimination of the Holy Spirit, this becomes another book of tales from a bygone era to be to be placed under the microscope of secularism : form criticism. If you know Jesus, the Bible becomes a fascinating teacher, guide, compass and rock. No we don’t worship it’s pages, but we do revere it with great honour, knowing that God’s own words and thoughts are still very much available to us today. Treasure your Bible friends and use it well.

  3. He Loves Us….Our Love letters from Him… a treasure for sure…as we pray for the lost ….that they would come to the cross and know that the ground is level and Jesus is waiting…open their ear’s and eyes Holy Spirit… so all will know the Word that is Written for us to follow…
Father…what a Precious Word….forever and ever….until we get home…safe and sound…we must be about our Father’s Business in the Power of the Holy Spirit…..thank you Jesus….
David have a wonderful day… walking with Jesus

  4. I have never prayed over the word before there are times i memorized them
and The Holy Spirit reveals them when I need it. I also pray to God to put the
full armor of him on me everyday. Thank you David for sharing I might
    give it a try.
    God Bless you always

  5. Through contemplation the Presence of God is drawn into our consciousness. With this infilling our consciousness becomes cause to our world, no longer just an effect for with Christ within, our hope of glory, we become cause. And truly, with God, all things are possible. God’s faithful Love abides forever!

  6. Your prayers are so beautiful and straight from the heart. I have a journal where I have been writing these down and at night during my devotions with my daughter I pray these prayers also. I am going to start printing your blogs out each day and when I travel on the subway leave them in the seats for people to pick up and read. I do this with Bible tracts and pray over them before I leave them. Psalms 71.v 23 “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you, I,whom you have redeemed. ” I am greatly enjoying reading and digesting your words of wisdom each morning. God bless you Numbers 6 v 24 to 26
