MOSES & CHRIST

Suggested Reading: Exodus 40

Key Verse: Exodus 40:21

And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, hung up the veil of covering, and partitioined off the ark of the testimony, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Tomorrow, God willing, we move to the New Testament book of Luke. In preparation for our meditation in the third Gospel, let us think about how Jesus Christ has been seen in Exodus. Consider these portraits of Christ in Exodus. (1) Moses and Christ are prophets – Both were endangered in infancy. Both voluntarily renounced power and wealth. Both are deliverers, lawgivers, and intercessors. (2) The passover – Christ is the Lamb of God who was slain. (3) The Ark was the place where God dwelt amongst His people, and Jesus is “Immanuel,” God with us. (4) Moses hung the veil to show the separation of God from His people…Christ tore the veil from top to bottom to unite us with God (Mark 15:38). Come and join us in the Gospel of Luke starting tomorrow.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, thank You for the symbols of the Tabernacle which are revealed in You. You promised that the Spirit of Truth would guide me into all truth (John 16:13). I ask for the fulfillment of that promise, and for the grace of consistancy in my Bible reading, so that I will read every word with understanding. In Your Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m wondering how all of you who have joined me in this blog are doing. How are you? I wish we could visit face to face. Please let me know how the daily readings may be blessing you. For over 50 years I’ve done my best, with God’s help, to encourage Bible reading. My most constant memory of my Doctor of Theology father is of him sitting in his chair with his Bible open in front of him. Throughout his life, he must have read the Bible through more than 50 times. He was committed to 3 chapters a day and 5 on Sundays. This got him from cover to cover in 365 days. I used to promote that reading plan but found that the majority of those who started with me didn’t make it. Therefore, I switched to the two-year plan, which was not quite so demanding, and which gave more time for meditation on the content. Hang in there! If not down here on earth, we’ll talk it over up above.

Yours for the blessing of that all too rare jewel, consistency,

David

SPECIAL VIDEO FEATURE: Exodus 40 is all about the process of the erecting of the Tabernacle in the desert. Back in May, we erected a full-sized replica of the Tabernacle behind the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario. Here’s a link to a time-lapse video of how it was done…probably a little different process than it was in 1500 BC! (My son Ron and I hosted this segment on a 100 Huntley Street program on May 16th). Click HERE to watch!

NOTE: The Tabernacle exhibit is currently featured at the Crossroads Centre until September 30th. For tour info, click HERE.

  1. David, you’ve really helped in making this study come alive for me. Morning by morning I’m usually able to join you in this journey, it’s really helped me to become more methodical and focused. As we continue to journey through the Bible, may God continue to bless you and strengthen you in the days ahead. This study has truly been a blessing of daily manna in my life!

    • Yes, David I am still reading your blog each day and it is helping me to be consistent. I was doing a two year plan and was over to the New Testament but I went back and started over again with you as I want to learn all I can about God’s Word. Thank you for your dedication. It is a blessing.

  4. Thank you so much David for these blogs, which we read every day after the Bible chapter. We have often said: If we want to really get to know and appreciate people, we must spend time with them, which we did during our two week trip with you and Norma-Jean to the Holy Land in May of 1984 ( and you baptizing me ) Now the ties of Kindred Spirit are strengthened by reading your heart and mind every day as you share the Word and in prayer. They make our days special !!!

    • I’m enjoying it, too, and am so blessed by Reynold’s photographs. Since we all live so far apart it is great to connect this way. I appreciate you sharing from your heart, and I love drawing closer to God with you through His Word. Thanks so much for writing this blog for us!

  10. Yes, I am loving it very much. On July 19 I started writing down some of what you have given us to meditate on and I also add my prayer burdens on me for that day and I then see how God is continuing to work in my life.
I have had a neat experience after seeing and then reading about helping widows and orphans in need I started to pray for them in Asia . I know there are other places with orphans but I felt led to pray there and more specifically in the Philipians. I finished my prayer and a few days later in pops to my e-mail for a missionary for this country. I had never heard about him before or read anything he wrote. He is with YWEM a group that does great work. I have decided that once I get work that I will start helping him with his work. So this is where your blog has taken me and David you are blessing my life very richly and helping other people out.

  11. Hello David
I wouldn’t start my day any other way. I find that I have no problem motivating myself in the morning to go to your website. This is a first for me. I usually start something and peter out after a while. I tend to wake up depressed & have problems getting myyself going. This gives me a reason to get up because I know it will cheer me up. I am learning to keep y eyes on the Lord. Before I started watching Crossroads, I was struggling with depression on a daily basis. I have to say, the problem is for the most part gone. I thankyou & all those at Crossroads helping to refocus my outlook & priorities.

Blessings & Prayers for You & Yours.
    Lorna

    • Dear Lorna,

I was so moved by your response that I wish to use it in one of my future “100 personal words.” If that is O.K.
with you, let me know. Thanks for inspiring me to continue. God bless you!

      David

  12. Thank you so much Mr. Mainse for your daily blog and your dedication to write it for us every morning. I love to see all the beautiful pictures, it feels like I am right there. I have always heard that one must go to Isreal that it would change their life and truly these pictures have just made the Bible more real to me.The pictures are breath taking and I sense the presence of God even more.
I look forward to learning more about the gospel of Luke
Mr.Mainse God Bless you through your journey

  13. I am not doing so well as I have health problems and am scheduled for surgery, but when I am able I log on here and read, Pastor David, and you are a blessing and encourager to me. I read my Bible every morning with my coffee. I cannot start the day without reading some of the Bible. I have read the New Testament over and over again many times. There is a lot in the Old Testament I cannot seem to understand but I do read it as well.

Thank you so much for this site.

    Christine Mason

  14. David, I am a 21 year old man on this journey and your blog has been a major motivator to stay in the word. Your personality shines through when I read the blog. I hope to continue with the process for the next two years.

  15. I am very Blessed by your blog, David and Reynold’s beautiful photography. I don’t like to miss a day. I’m now looking forward to Luke. This is a wonderful ministry!

  16. Hi David. I have been reading your blog everyday since you started the 2 year plan. I was led to your site on that first day. If i dont get the reading done in the morning, i do at night. I have been keeping up even though i did have to catch up at least a couple of times. I have been praying for routine for some time. Perhaps i need to pray more for consistency. Please help me pray for consistently drawing closer to Him every day. Thank you so much for this devotional reading plan. I have been very blessed through your obedience.
through it. And look forward to continuing

  17. David, thank you for your question asking how I am…for many years I have watched 100 Huntley Street and prayed for you and for your family. Blogs like this give a real personal touch that touches people in a unique way; your daily words of reflection and exhortation to continue reading the Bible are important to me. As a teacher, I know that I must be strong in the Word in order to impart to my students. This blog is an important part of that daily ‘refilling’ and impartation. God bless you for your father’s heart in imparting to all of us your wisdom and your journey with Jesus!

  18. Hi Mr. Mainse, I had been praying for some kind of Bible study that would help me to grow in the Word. On 100 Huntley you were talking about the blog and reading the Bible over the next two years. I went to the site and I have been enjoying every word. You have been helping me to grow in the Word and making it so easy to stick with it. I thank you and appreciate the time you’re taking to help me and others like myself who have teachable spirits learn. I know it is God working through you, job well done Mr. Mainse blessing to you and your family.
