Key Verse: Mark 14:29

Peter said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble, yet I will not be.

The INTENTIONS of JESUS were clearly revealed in His declaration that the Bread and the Cup were His Body and His Blood. His suffering and death in our place was about to take place. Nothing could turn Jesus away from this. On the other hand, there was Peter. His INTENTIONS were great, but his actions were so very human. In the courtyard of the High Priest, Peter could not stand up to the waitresses who identified him with Jesus (Mark 14:71-72). The Bible is totally honest. Peter was a man of God who became one of the leaders of the early Church. His example shows us that it is impossible to follow Jesus in our own strength. Oh, how we need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Fifty days later, after the Holy Spirit filled them on the Day of Pentecost, Peter was boldly proclaming Jesus on the streets of Jerusalem. That day, approximately 3000 people became believers (Acts 2:41). The Holy Spirit enabled him to carry out his INTENTIONS!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, John the Baptist said of You, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11b). I need You, Lord Jesus, to baptize me now. I ask You for Your power to come upon me (Acts 2:4). I wait in Your presence, expecting the same outpouring of Your Spirit as on Peter and the others throughout the history of the Church.Thank You Jesus! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I identify with Peter. Before Jesus baptized me with the Holy Spirit, I found it nearly impossible to stand before people to share Jesus. After, I was amazed at how bold I was. I preached on the street, on radio and on television. I rented a hall to minister to children and adults, and I saw open doors of opportunity everywhere. I was very aware that Peter had spent three years being taught by Jesus Himself and before that no doubt he had studied the Scriptures as a child under a Rabbi. I surely needed Bible College studies. I started with a correspondence course and then enrolled in Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, Ontario (now Master’s College and Seminary). A thorough knowledge of God’s Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit, made all the difference in effective ministry. What a joy to serve the Lord Jesus Christ!

Yours for effectively sharing Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit,

David

  1. I think we can all identify with Peter. Every one of us is broken, frail and weak in our human nature. Sin entered the world as a result of the actions of our first parents Adam and Eve, and has tainted humankind ever since. Peter stood with Jesus giving bold words that he would never leave him, even unto death. Yet, at this point, his actions proved otherwise; he was very much afraid having felt abandoned and alone. As you mentioned David, Peter would later become a bold witness for the Lord and a great leader in the early church, even reportedly dying for his faith. To those of who have put their faith and trust in Jesus, that He is the son of God, that He came to earth in human form, that He came to forgive us of our sin, that He was crucified, died, buried and then raised from the dead; to these He has given the promise that He would never leave them or forsake them, that they would receive eternal life. To these very same people, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, that He would come and empower them, comfort them and be with them as they proclaimed the Christian gospel. Peter believed; he came to the point of placing his faith and trust in Jesus as the sequences of events of the passion and resurrection unfolded. Peter came to a believe in the promises of God, his own life and character proved this to be true, and He was empowered. Will we submit our heart to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to come into our life today?

    • Dear David,
In 1979 I became a commited Christian while watching you on 100 Huntley. What a marvelous idea to have this daily blog. In this media infused society, this is exactly what is needed for those stuggling to spend time in the word and prayer. You are such an inspiration to me and so many others. Your faithfulness and dedication are so Christ like……Thank you so very much.
      Love as always, Dianne

  2. when I was baptised with the Holy Ghost and with fire I was surprised about how bold
I was, and the gift he gave me which I did not understand only Jesus knows. I learned
how to do more things than I thought I could ever do myself thank you Jesus
    Amen!

  3. When we can listen to another with empathy and not see ouselves as greater or less, when we are trust-worthy, so as not to tell what was told in confidence, when we can self-disclose, not to be the hero of the story, when we acknowledge our weaknesses and strengths with humility, then the subject of faith can be spoken with integrity … after all, does not “integrity” mean we have INTEGRATED these Christ-like values into what we say and do. Any scripture quoted, should in turn reflect OUR LIFE and how we live it.

  4. Believers know that God’s grace is sufficient.. By grace we are saved through faith. God’s faithful Love abides forever. Praise the Lord! Amen!

  5. Less of us…More of Jesus….its the only way ..it is about Him…All of Him…
thank you Lord that when we are willing… you use us in ways that are past finding out….as we journey….Knowing You…and when that happens we want to know ( More ) …. until we get home safe & sound… To soak in your presence and Listen…..and then obey…..
Praying for you David….(Romans 12.12 ) Joyful in Hope, Patient in Trials, Faithful in Prayer…..

  6. Hi David that wall maybe called a wall of thanksgiving if both neighbours can grow healthy crops on its structure the common soil of brotherhood would allow fruit to be produced with watering in season sight unseen but consequence becomes apparent on both sides if neglect is on both sides. it is a living vine only supporting the living. its fruit brings joy as a wedding wine after 50 years it becomes a vinegar that can heal, which is the gift most demonstrated by jesus.for gifting allows sharing in the present moment rather than inheritence of decay. one tree can make a forest unless we only plant one seed every 1000 yrs. a wall means both neighbours should naturally gethalf the sun each unless the lord intervenes and shows favour with cloud cover etc. but if you harmed a neighbours root system your roots would be intertwined and suffer as well .so would land pocession become resource sharinng of the necessities of life Amen!
