WATCH

Suggested Reading: Mark 13

The Nazareth Village is a unique place where visitors experience life in the first century. Pictured above is a synagogue as it would have looked at the time when Jesus read the prophetic words of Isaiah in Nazareth (Luke 4:16-20).

Key Verse: Mark 13:35-37

Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming — in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning — lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!

The destruction of the Temple happened in 70 A.D. We are still living in the times predicted by the greatest Prophet, Jesus Christ. The fig tree, the symbol of Israel as a country, has been given new life. Never before in human history has an ancient nation been reborn with their own territory, and never before has a dead language, Hebrew, been fully restored. What is the core message of today’s reading? JESUS IS COMING AGAIN SOON! Most people live their lives oblivious to this fact. Over 500 references to His coming in power and glory are in the Bible. If we lived in the continuous awareness of His coming, how different our lives would be!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I praise You for the truth of Your soon return. Please give me the alertness to be constantly watching for Your coming. May my life, my witness for You, my finances, and my deeds be pleasing in Your sight, so that I will not be ashamed at the moment of Your return. I pray this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I heard a preacher say, “Who will be taken up with Jesus when He comes? Those who are taken up with Him now.” My wife, Norma-Jean, tries to make sure that I don’t get distracted by the daily pressures of life, forgetting that Jesus could return at any second. I think she averages at least once a day saying, “David, Jesus is coming soon.” It’s her way of keeping me on the “straight and narrow,” I think. I turn and remind her of the same. I’m looking out the window to the east as I type this. The stars that I saw earlier have disappeared, and our star, the sun, has cast a pre-dawn light across the sky. I’m deeply moved to think that Jesus could come today. One of my main intentions in doing this blog is to help keep all who join me from sleeping spiritually. It’s time to “rise and shine!”

Yours in keen anticipation of His return,

David

  1. Thank you, we all need that extra nudge, He’s coming soon it may be morn or it maybe noon but my Lord is coming soon.

  2. “There are two days in every week about which it is useless to worry. One is yesterday with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders. The other is tomorrow. It too is beyond our control. Tomorrow’s sun will rise either in splender or behind a mask of clouds … but it will rise. That leaves today, and usually our present trials are easier to bear than remorse for what happened yesterday, or dread of what tomorrow may bring. Let us therefore journey but one day at a time.” Matt. 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

    • The above is a well known prose my wife has kept for years. As our Lord is the Alpha and Omega, we are known yesterday, today and tomorrow.

  3. I love this last verse to a glorious old hymn “It May Be At Morn” accredited to a composer named James McGranaham and by an author named H.L. Turner from the 19th Century. It speaks of jubilation at the coming of our Lord. “O Joy, O delight, should we go without dying. No sickness, no sadness, no dread and no crying. Caught up through the clouds with our Lord into glory, when Jesus receives His own. REFRAIN: Oh Lord Jesus, how long, how long Ere we shout the glad song? Christ returneth Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen! Hallelujah! Amen! “

  4. In Mark 13:32 (Mt 24:36) the Lord takes the place of complete humiliation as a servant and the servant is properly presented as he who “knows not what his lord does.” That your joy may be full, John 15:15 reveals no longer servants, but ”FRIENDS.” After His servantship was discharged in death, HE was raised in glory knowing all, the glorified Son omnisciently knew all, having this particular disclosure given to Him. Rev. 1:1.

  5. Yes …Come Lord come quickly… i loved today’s read and Your 100 words

    Blessings… to you David…..( WOTL) Isaiah 40.31

  6. HI DAVID I have been camping without internet the last 4 days and have just read your sunday blog and remembered that i had dived into the lake to cool-off the 35 degree weather at the invitation of dear family opa and then noticed a gleaming wrist watch upon my arm and put it in my pocket not wonting opa to feel bad, and when I came ashore found the watch had remained dry inside the first watch I have ever had that survived. So we all a very nice family re-union and as I paddled back to me campsite monday evening. the lake was very calm
and as just settled into bed, a thunder storm blew in, and started to rain, so I got up and closed up all the vents and prayed the 2 support ropes would hold and asked Jesus to calm the storm, except for a distant light show which was like watching an old silent movie, and just as I was drifting off to the sound of gentle enriched rain that was going to turn the hill sides a rich green when a few hours before we felt a forest fire would come out of the hot spell. well he let one good peal of thunder go right over head as if to say and a good night to you also. amen! WELL that remindered me of a documentary I had just watch called the road less travelled where a young lad was doing a 40 day fast and walking in as many places Jesus walked and it was amazing the different sites they got see that were not allowed and at the end. Just after his first regular meal on the 41st morning the carema shows an earth quake 3.3 on the scale. Well after only 4 days break on my way to Slave Lake Alberta to help rebuild the towns after its forest fire last year. Its my burning bush moment for retirement, after vancouvers convention of emergency architects trying to get better replacement structures for disaster relief etc. my heart goes out to Cal Bombay at his great call to help get tractors into the war torn countries under Jesus command to feed my children. as Cal raised money to reclaim citizens from the slave traders. the widows mite reminded me of the time I visited a grandparent and he bought me and my brothers 50 cents worth of ice cream cones on the new machine well we felt like princes for such an exstravagance to be given or was it the smile on his face when he told the owner for my grandkids, and we had just made the trip to town to fill the water barrells in the horse drawn wagon.

  7. Happy Birthday to you both David and Norma-Jean! You have been truly blessed in your marriage and family. You have blessed us through your gifts at Crossroads throughout the years. I am celebrating my 60th birthday today, the same day as Norma-Jean and I pray that God will bless us with grandchildren and a long life of love as well.
