Suggested Reading: Mark 7

This pool (now a cistern) is located at the northwestern corner of Jerusalem's Temple Mount and measures 52 x 14 metres. It is located along the Via Dolorosa. This cistern is accessible from the lower area of the Sisters of Sion convent and from the tunnel that runs along the western wall of the Temple Mount.

Key Verse: Mark 7:20

And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man…”

“Pharisees,” a religious denomination within the religion of Judaism, put great emphasis on tradition, ceremonies, and keeping the letter of the law in a most meticulous way. They had added a multitude of details and intrepretations to the law of Moses. Jesus said to them, “[you are] making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition” (verse13). Jesus then lists some of the evil that comes from within a person (verses 21-23). Jesus came with the message that true faith is inward and produces good fruit on the outside. Paul lists the manifestation of the inner life produced by a daily drawing from Jesus who lives in the believer. This includes LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF CONTROL (Galatians 5:22-23).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You said, “I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing (John 15:5). Through reading Your Word, prayer, and this blog, I’m abiding in You. Therefore, I expect to produce good fruit today. In Your fruitful Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My Dad told the story of when he first went to Egypt as a missionary. The year was 1922 when, in a Model T Ford car, several veteran missionaries drove him into the desert where he spotted a tree which had delicious looking fruit on it. “Try it,” they said. He did and it was the most bitter fruit. They laughed and informed him that this fruit was called, “Apples of Sodom.” This was one of the many stories I was raised on. Dad would laugh heartily at the memory. Over the years, I’ve tried to tell my family stories (in an interesting way) from the past, as well as my own stories. My great-granddaughter, Aliya Stowell, had just turned 3 when she, her younger brother, her Mom and Dad travelled with me across the prairie provinces for 2 months. As I told her one of my stories she said, “Great Grandpa, I love you very, very much…..but I don’t want to listen to you anymore.” Since then she’s given me permission. However, I make sure to make the stories more interesting.

Yours so that when someone takes a bite of you, it will taste really good,

David

P.S. Below is a picture of 4-month-old Jackson David Kenny. Yesterday, Sunday, I had the honour of presenting him to the Lord at the Pine Grove Community Church. His parents will have a story to tell. He’s my first cousin, four times removed. His great, great, great, Grandmother, Myrtle Mainse Kenny, is my Dad’s sister. His great, great Grandpa, Osborne Kenny, is my first cousin. (Let me know if I’ve got it wrong about how I’m related to Jackson. I must be getting old! Also, I try to never put those already in Heaven in the past tense.)

  1. Deception, sinful thoughts, cleverly laid out arguments and Satan himself may try and drive you off the narrow path chosen for you by God. Jesus however makes a very important promise in His word which we should hide in our heart and never never forget – John 10:28 (NLT) “I give them eternal life and they shall never perish, no one can snatch them away from me”

  2. As you have said David, “I try to never put those already in Heaven in the past tense” … a profound message to the living. You appear to exude joy as you cradle little Jackson, resting so peacefully in your arms. This is a true measure of the good tasting fruit within. In today’s reading, I am struck with the fact tradition has its merit, but never to exclude the true meaning of a relationship with Christ from within.

  3. I have the honour of being named after my Great Grandfather Allan Mainse. He made a choice many years ago to put God first in his life. As a result of this one decision, countless lives have been changed, right down to my Grand Nephew Jackson (whom you mentioned). I love it when you mention family in your 100 personal words such as stories about your Father (my Great Uncle Roy). David, your daily blog is a great way to start the day. May God continue to bless you.

  4. David

  5. Dear Mr. Mainse,
I greatly enjoy Your warm family reflections in Your daily blog along with reading Gods’ word and learning about Jesus.

    What an adorable picture.
What I understand about the geneology placement (which you already know) is it goes by the Grandparents. ie: First Cousins share the same Grandparents, Second Cousins share the same Great Grandparents, Third Cousins … Great-great Grandparents, Forth Cousins … Great-great-great Grandparents and so on …
The “removed” is used to indicate the difference of generations in respect to the Grandparents, Great Grandparents, etc… and is not used for persons of the same generation.

    God Bless,

    Diane
    Love Your Blog 🙂

  6. Write (right) on! A spiritual understanding of God’s law and a sense of the evil in sin causes seeking for individual grace of the Holy Spirit.. “By grace are ye saved through faith, and “My grace is sufficient for thee.” God’s faithful Love abides forever.
