Key Verse: Genesis 45:5

But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.

Joseph was sure that God used even the cruelty of his brothers in order to send him to Egypt. This knowledge helped Joseph to forgive. Imagine the bewilderment and the renewal of guilt the brothers felt. Psalm 76:10 tells us that, “Surely the wrath of man shall praise You.” The anger of the brothers could not thwart God’s plan to preserve life. God forgives our sins. We accept that as a fact based on God’s promises. But forgiving ourselves is another matter. Joseph urged his brothers to forgive themselves. If they failed to do this they would never rise above the slave mentality they had shown. Their dad was “Israel,” “Prince of God.” They too were members of God’s royal family. It’s important to know who we are in God’s eyes, and to live up to His view of us!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord, I forgive myself for the sin and wrong I’ve done. By the gift of Your grace I realize that I am Your precious child. Thank You! ThankYou! Thank You! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In 1922 my dad began his ministry in Egypt. My mother and he were married in 1924 in Cairo. My childhood days were filled with imagination about ancient Egypt. Dad had a black granite carved head of an ancient official of pharoah’s court. This was the opinion of an Egyptologist at the University of Toronto. I would wonder, “Could this be Joseph?” My photographer son, Reynold, has this head now. Reynold’s pictures of ancient Egypt are magnificent. I believe that these temples were an attempt by the “god of this world” (2 Cor 4:4) to get the worship he desired when in Heaven. This fallen Archangel inspired the closest thing he could get to the architecture of the center of the worship of Almighty God in Heaven and then inhabited these temples to receive the worship of man. The temples are in ruins as are the efforts of our enemy to keep us from worshipping the true God.

Yours, as a forgiven sinner who has also forgiven himself, and who is a worshipper of the “God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,”

David

  1. Genesis 45-46 tied together so beautifully the lives of Joseph, his brothers and the love of their father, so that everything unfolded in order for God’s plan to exist and preserve life. This reality can sometimes be impossible to grasp, especially in times of tragedy.

  2. Dear Mr. Mainse,
What a wonderful adventure for a young child to imagine. I think of you as a mini-Indiana Jones wearing a fedora. How significant it would be to know that the carved head is of Joseph.

The last sentence of the first paragraph you wrote …”It

  3. Thank you Lord that we have the Word..your Love letters from Heaven so we can grow, trust, and obey….. its a wonderful choice and the only one that leads to Peace in the middle of the Storm or Storms of Life…but….when in the middle of it all…. there is the Book of Life…from you Lord with Love…and a purpose for it all… ( Kingdom Work ) and someday as we speak through the pain …about Jesus…it will all be brought to the Light…and we look over our shoulder and its the ( AhHa) moment…until then we follow you ..as you Lord forgive us, we forgive others and ourselves and walk in your Grace..Breath by Breath…..Joyful in Hope, Patient in Trials, Faithful in Prayer ( Romans 12.12 )
David….have a wonderful Day….God’s over flowing love from you to others as we Journey…heading home…

  4. In addition to my previous reply…
The last sentence of the first paragraph you wrote “It’s important to know who we are in God’s eyes, and to live up to His view of us!”.
When I read that sentence it grabbed me. I envisioned walking with God and he was smiling. It means so much to God that we forgive ourselves and others. He loves Us.
I aspire to be the person God views me as through His eyes.

    Love Your Blog 🙂

  5. It is so easy for us to forget who we truely are in God’s eyes. We too are Princes and Princesses; royalty of the most highest! We are bombarded everyday by the messages from the world inwhich we live, that we are not good enough, we are ‘nobodies’, and unimportant. The enemy sends these messages; these lies, so that we will not fullfill our true destinies for our lives. My prayer is that all God’s children would know who they really are and to live our lives every moment of the day, knowing just how special we are to Him.
Diane, I am an artist and just started a new painting a couple weeks ago about the ‘storms of life’. If you want to see it, check out my blog!
Thanks again David. I continue to ready your messages every day.

  6. I think that one of the hardest areas in the Christian life is forgiving oneself. When we come in faith to the belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, God promises to forgive our sins, to wipe the slate clean. God comforts us with the knowledge that we are new creations in Him and promises to love us and to keep us in the eternal security of this love … FOREVER. If you are in Christ, you are a child of the Lord and nothing can separate you from the love of God. Amen!

  7. I have just started reading your blog and today’s was so good for me. I ask God and expect Him to forgive me as He has promised to, but find it hard to forgive myself. I needed your word today and it has helped me. Thank you so much, and I hope you are getting more well every day.

  8. I want to finish my thghuot here. If God treated us fairly Jesus would have never died on the cross. and we would have never been offered salvation. I praise God that He loves me, He never fails me and He goes to plan B and on. Look ho w He blessed Israel, they sinned and went away from God countless times, but He was faithful and loved them any way. Romans 5:8 But God commended His love toward us, in that while we were sinners Christ died for us. Praise be to God!
