DOWN TO EGYPT

Suggested Reading: Genesis 38-39

The Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza are among the most recognizable symbols of the civilization of ancient Egypt.

Key Verse: Genesis 39:9

There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

Chapter 38 is such a contrast with chapter 39. Immorality verses morality. Judah was wrong. Joseph was right. Joseph faced a temptation that is glorified today – the temptation to sin sexually. Therefore it’s important that we take to heart Joseph’s response. He refused to “do this great wickedness, and sin against God.” Joseph proves that we can, if we will, stand firm in doing right, recognizing that to do otherwise is to act against God. His is an example we should follow. Ultimately, Jesus is our supreme example of holy living…moral steel down His backbone. Joseph paid a price for his righteous stand. Jesus paid the infinite price as the sinless sacrificial offering for the sins of all people.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, please put steel down my backbone. Please give me moral strength as You did for the Apostle Paul who wrote Your words to him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9). Thank You Lord Jesus that You live in me and I in You. Together we are strong. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

For years I quoted Galatians 2:20 each morning: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” I have recommended many times to all who struggle to live a Godly life that they memorize this verse as I have done and quote it daily. There is such power in God’s Word. “Your Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11). I found that memorization plus daily quoting moves the Word from my brain into my heart. The Word is pumped throughout my entire being all day long. Joseph is a hero of mine, and most of all “Christ lives in me.” Christ is my ultimate Hero! I have failed many times, but “Jesus never fails.”

Yours for holy living,

David

  1. Yes David … Scripture memorization is something that I have begun recently and it’s been a great blessing already. I wish I had started this years ago. I’m using the tools of modern technology to help me do this. The American Bible Society has developed a wonderful app that I use on my android phone, it’s called “Bible Minded” and is a free download from the Google App Store. It has numerous Bible versions available to choose from as well. It’s true, as you memorize scripture, it moves from your brain to your heart, well stated David. Have a great day, God Bless!

  2. Good Morning David… So true about getting scripture in our heart and spirit..i have all these post it notes in my pocket of the one i am working on today..and then go back & fourth to the other ones iv got now down pat…not easy..but in His Power… it can be done…and then to use scripture when speaking to a neighbour just makes my day as the time is short..singing in Psalms and giving Thanks for all He is doing..in our lives..as today we are one day closer than we were yesterday ..Breath by Breath in Him and He is in us..How Awesome is that ..when we get this settled in our Spirit.. It is Indeed a wonderful time to be a Christian following the One who Knows the Way ..as we decrease and He Increases….Have a Wonderful Day David….Joshua 1.9..(^_^) He Loves Us…..

  3. Though, I think Joseph was over zelous in the way he shared his dreams, I believe God knows how we respond and live out His plans for our life. Joseph stood strong in Egypt and like everyone, was tempted. I am reminded of 1 Cor. 10:13 “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it”.

  4. Hello David: Speaking of memorzing the Word of God …. I am so thankful that I memorized many scripture verses and passages when I was young. God’s Word has truly been “a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. Memorization is not as easy as it used to be (now that I’m a senior)….. but what I learned remain will remain in my heart and mind forever. Thank you for sharing your daily blog. You are blessed to be a blessing! And you truly are!

  5. Good afternoon! Just moments ago I signed up, with excitement, to receive this daily blog. The verse from Galations, which appeared before me, is a very significant one to our entire family. We are affiliated with the Torchbearers Bible school in the little cozy town of Comfort, Texas. Galations 2:20 is the verse that His Hill Bible School uses regularly to show students the foundation of the Christian life. Thanks for sharing this verse with me today… it’s a good reminder. See you all at 100 Huntley St. on Monday!

  6. Beset with challenges of negativity, Joseph chose to use God and Godly wisdom. Life works for us in the same way when we choose to be positive–Christ, the Prince of peace dwells within us. Godly wisdom allows us to see beyond limitations to the inherent positiveness for every encounter in all of life. Choosing Life and being positive is always our choice.

  7. Every day I look forward to getting my e-mail from David. I,’ve been watching
Huntley Street for twenty three years and enjoy it just as much today, as I did
then. It’s my Manna from Heaven I need it to survive each day.
God Bless You David. Hope you are feeling well and strong I pray for you often.
