THE DREAM

Suggested Reading: Genesis 36-37

A deep cistern in Egypt.

[The location of today’s photo on Google Maps is not available.]

Key Verse: Genesis 37:28

Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.

In Chapter 36 we learn that Esau refused to waste his life in bitterness. God richly rewarded his generosity of spirit. Chapter 37 tells of the dreamer. Be sure not to let your guidance come from dreams; they are 99% unreliable. However, in this case, God had truly revealed His plan to Joseph. When we hear from God, most of the time we should keep it between God and ourselves. Joseph’s story brought about a serious family feud. Indeed, God has many ways to bring about His will. He used this tragedy to put Joseph in Egypt so he could be tested and refined and then to save many lives, including his father and his family.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord You promised wisdom if I would but ask You (James 1:5). I’m asking! Let me bring unity rather than discord. I pray this mercy through the merits of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen!

  1. It seems that sin and evil self-centered desire will always follow when we take our eyes off the Lord. The Lord wants our full attention, our adoration and most of all our obedience. The Lord only wants His ‘best’ for us … but for the Lord to do a work in our lives, we must believe and live a life of faith with our eyes focused on Him. I love the promise in Psalm 55:22 “Give your burdens to the Lord and He will take care of you, He will not permit the godly to slip and fall”.

  2. In this case, Joseph used poor judgement sharing his two dreams with his brothers. He could see the jealous impact and reactions, yet continued to further expand when he had his second dream. His brothers were both violent towards Joseph and deceptive to their father by portraying Joseph’s death as having been killed by a wild beast. There could certainly have been an easier and less hurtful way for Joseph to live out the dream, but the lesson would not be there for us today.

  3. Good Morning David… i love the passion of Joseph…and God’s will was done through the mess that his passion drove him too by not learning after the first telling … but…Only God eh !!… and yes the lesson for us to learn ….I also Love the way a reading…can be read by hundreds of people and taken a hundred different ways…just for us …where we are…..God So Patient with us, Knows where we are, and knows us by name…as we Pass through this earth heading Home….Have a wonderful Monday ..David….as always praying for you..Romans 12.12 (Message to Self) Joyful in Hope,Patient in Trials, Faithful in Prayer..God Bless… ( Diane )

  4. I think what God is telling us is that he wants us to have a passion for him and that the jealous of Joseph brothers were wrong. Sometimes it happens to all of us and we have to watch out for it and ask God for his forgiveness.

  5. I am blessed by God’s Word and your daily thoughts. The photos by Reynold make the places of the Bible come alive. They are beautiful.
I have also thought what a great idea it is to post some of your readers’ comments from time to time. Praying God is giving you, Norma Jean, and family His strength and grace for your health challenges.

  6. To anyone who does not include fellowship with other Christians in worship as a group you need that fellowship for growth in your walk with God. God Himself made us as He too longed for that fellowship, and Jesus in the Garden too desired it. I encourage you to seek that fellowship. One lady I know not attending a church said she was” just sitting on a stump and waiting”, how sad.

  7. All of our wisdom stems from ”LOVE”. Loving ourselves, we love others, and we love our planet. Receiving Love, we give Love. We can! LOVE is the reason for every goal, and purpose behind each and every life. Through the wisdom of God the more we LOVE, the wiser we are. The more in tempo with Love, the more connected to God we are. “And now abideth faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:13.
