Key Verse: 1 Kings 8:11
…so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Lord God, I bow in Your holy presence. I ask that You will reveal Your glory to me in whatever way You think is best. I know that You are revealed in all Your fullness in Jesus. Of Him, John wrote, “We beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” Dear Jesus, be Lord of my life now and forever. Amen!
100 PERSONAL WORDS:
My friend, Rod Hembree of Orangeville, Ontario, was our senior producer for the 100 Huntley Street telecast for several years. His dad, Rev. Ron Hembree, who has gone ahead of us to Heaven, often hosted 100 Huntley Street in my absence. Check out Rod’s video teaching series “Quick Study” here. I find it interesting that Rod has a replica of the “Ark” pictured above.
Crossroads played a major role in famine relief in Ethiopia back in the eighties. The Ethiopian Orthodox Churches all have a replica of the Ark of the Covenant behind the altar. They have a tradition that the original Ark is hidden in their country. They confirm that the only items in the Ark are the tablets of stone on which the Ten Commandments are written. Our reading today also confirms that the Ark no longer contains the pot of manna, and Aaron’s wooden rod that budded. Stephen Mengesha, heir to the throne of Halle Selassie of Ethiopia, says that only one priest and the reigning Emperor are allowed to see the Ark. God willing, I’ll tell much more about our Ethiopian involvement and the heir in my book, “This Far By Faith,” due out in June.
Yours for the ongoing presence of God,
David
God no longer resides in the ancient temple built by man, but now lives in the temple of your body. Yes, the living Lord dwells within you and within me; we’re that special to our Lord! Many in the past were confused by this, thinking that they were now gods as they believed they had a divine light within (this was called gnosticism) but this can’t be farther from the truth. As a believer, the Holy Spirit resides in you, offering guidance and wisdom along life’s journey. We can celebrate in the knowledge that if we believe in the gospel, we have everlasting life and the Lord will be with us forevermore! Hallelujah!
Looking forward to reading your book, “This Far By Faith”. It was a meaningful prayer in our reading by King Solomon today for justice, forgiveness and faithfulness in our relationship with our Father. Disturbing that the temple was destroyed only five hundred years later! Remanence of the stone tablets must be somewhere in the world, if not Ethiopia. What an amazing find if authenticated! Perhaps someday. Have a great day today to all.
Very much loved this chapter. Solomon speaks so directly and matter of fact, with God; with reverence, but more determination, somehow. It was very moving. Can just imagine the power and presence of God that was felt in Solomon’s Temple!
Bless you David Mainse! Could not open the link but have bookmarked it. Look forward to reading your new book about Ethiopia! Praise be to God on this glorious day!
Love this portion of Scripture too of the glory of the Lord in the temple and Solomon’s prayer on his knees with outstretched arms. Thought of Daniel praying in a strange land with his face toward Jerusalem, and God answered his prayer just as Solomon requested. As you said, David Jesus manifests the Glory of God and we can behold that Glory as we worship in our churches and individual lives. Looking forward to reading your book, David.
What a chapter, to read about the glory of God, and Solomon’s prayer. But the more amazing thing is that the Lord lives in each one of us now. P.T.L.
Have a great and Godly day!
