JEHU

Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 10

On display at the Archaeological Museum of ancient Corinth in Greece is a gold ring and many other artifacts. As far as we know, there are no golden calves, as in today’s reading.

Key Verse: 2 Kings 10:29

However, Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.

Surely Jehu or some of the advisers and priests knew about the judgment of God on those who practised worship of the golden calf at the foot of Mt. Sinai shortly after the deliverance of the Children of Israel from Egypt (Exodus 32). Jehu most certainly knew the first of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-6). They knew these things, but Jehu did not know them in his heart, the core of his being where decisions are made for right and wrong. Verse 31 in today’s reading tells us that “Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel WITH ALL HIS HEART.” The disintegration of the northern tribes began as a result. Syria took over the territories of three of the tribes on the east side of the Jordan River, from its source south to Galilee. This is the border territory today between Syria and Israel. Our reading informs us that God wanted the destruction of the altars of Baal, but no instructions from God to do the same with the golden calves. Could it be that the Lord always leaves a test in place to see whether or not we will decide for Him or otherwise?

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I decide for You 100%. May I be granted grace, intelligence, and a heart that is true to You in all things. I pray that I will put out of my life all idols, those things that take priority ahead of You. I realize that to worship is to ascribe worth to someone or something. I worship You, Lord God; all else fades away in the focus of my life on You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In the late 1970s I took my sons out of high school for the month of March and we back-packed throughout Israel. However, when we arrived at Vered Hagalil, a dude ranch just above the Mount of Beatitudes north of the Sea of Galilee, we rented horses for a day and rode across the hillsides and back for 20 miles or so. By the time we arrived at the northern stretch of the Jordan river, I realized that while I was doing fine walking and carrying a large back pack, I was not in shape for long periods in the saddle. I was very sore on a certain part of my anatomy! I remember jumping into the river, clothes and all, propping my feet against a fallen tree trunk and lying upstream into the current. The fast flowing waters of the Jordan provided the best and most refreshing massage imaginable. When my spiritual muscles and joints are tired and sore, I picture myself doing the same as I lie back into the river of prayer and worship. It’s amazing how refreshed I am after doing this. I’m ready to mount up and go again.

Yours for the refreshing streams of God’s Presence,

David

  1. Incredible scripture, message, prayer, and photos. Such happiness in memories. Thank you to all the saints for holding me in prayer–feeling much better and hoping especially Marilyn, that your headaches are ceasing as well. A beautiful day, today, fellow saints in the Lord. For He is with us, indeed!

  2. Rejoicing with you that you are feeling better Beverlee – thanking our Lord. I hope and pray that Marilyn is also feeling better today.

  3. What a wonderful experience for David and the boys. We arranged for our youngest son, Shane, (adopted) to go to Israel with a 100 Huntley group. He has spent 3 1/2 years in hospital & had missed out on many experiences that normally come to children. I am happy that we did.. A memory for him.

  4. Today’s study should be done AFTER breakfast. My goodness that was one violent man and yes Jehu needed attention in the core of his heart for sure I think.
What joy for Norma Jean to have the pictures of her dear husband and her sons of yesteryear.
So thankful you are feeling better ladies, ie. headaches. Imagine God caring about our health so much and each of us individually. Truly amazing!! Praise the Lord!!

I read Dr. Jim Denison’s blog each morning also and love his dedication to our heavenly Father. This is another of his words of wisdom (for which I pray for each day):
The next time you wonder if your first-century faith is relevant to a twenty-first-century technological world, remember that the most important things in life are not things: “The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).
Remember that a saving personal relationship with Jesus is the only way to eternal life (John 17:3). Remember that you are “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Then “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (v. 16).
Every person you know needs the Jesus you know.

Praying our reader’s light will shine brightly for lost souls today and always.

  5. What a read today and so glad that Jesus has come and we are under the New Covenant. Amen? What memories David made for his sons in Israel and am so glad I had a trip with David, Norma Jean, Ron and Ann as well. So glad you are feeling better Beverlee and hopefully Marilyn too. Is a dull day here and the farmers are on the potato field again across the road from me here trying to get their crop in. Time to freshen up again after the long winter. Love those songs by Eddie James.

    • Marilyn,

I have said a prayer for you. In the meantime I hope you are taking something for those headaches- like Tylenol.. It doesn’t bother the stomach.

      God Bless

PS: Their is noting wrong with a Christian taking medication while asking God for healing. Perhaps you are seeing a Dr for your headaches, If not, please see one.

  7. Praying for you, Marilyn! May you experience total relief from your headache!
Thanking the Lord for touching and helping Beverlee!

I pray a blessing on each and everyone , today!

Our God is so faithful and worthy of all praise and adoration!

    • Agreeing with Luisa, in prayer for your headaches, Marilyn. What a difficulty they create in all things. My heart goes out to you, and I pray that His hands are upon your head and neck, right now. My headaches greatly stem from my neck, which heat and being in the dark (removal of sunlight) helps. Trust in Him, Marilyn, for, oh, how He loves us so. If there is something in your heart that needs to be taken away, lift it up to the Lord. For He sees and knows all of our pain. I pray for you, dear sister-in-Christ, and for all my blessed sisters on the blog.
