TRANSFORMED

Today’s Reading: Mark 9

This photo of Mount Hermon was taken from about 45 Kilometres south of the mountain and nine kilometres north of the Sea of Galilee. I (Reynold Mainse) was standing at an elevated point in Meshushim Stream Nature Reserve. A peak in this area rises to 2,236 m (7,336 ft) and is the highest elevation in Israeli-controlled territory. The Hermon range covers an area of about 1000 square km, of which about 70 are under Israeli control. This mountain range is shared by Lebanon, Syria, and Israel. The Jordan River's main source of water comes from the melted snow off of Mount Hermon. Mt. Hermon may have been the "High Mountain" referred to in today's reading.

Key Verse: Mark 9:7

And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”

Why Peter, James and John? Did Jesus show favouritism? God always responds according to our level of committment. Do we want to see Jesus in new ways? Then ask God for a greater desire for Him. Why Moses and Elijah? Jesus had tried again and again to share His coming death with His disciples, but they didn’t get it. Moses and Elijah were two servants of the Lord who, at one point in their lives, had become so discouraged that they asked God that they would die (Numbers 11:15 and 1 Kings 19:4). Perhaps they were the only human beings who could begin to understand Jesus’ feelings as He faced death. Yes, Jesus was 100% human, and this record establishes that Jesus is also 100% God. The voice of God the Father burned its way into the memories of the three disciples. Later in the chapter we learn that “fasting and prayer” is another evidence of our level of fervency. Why be fervent? One reason is because of the reality of “hell fire” (9:43,47). There’s a lost world that needs Jesus before it’s too late.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, like Peter, James and John, I’m sticking close to You. May I too hear the voice of the Father, and may I fast and pray so that I may see Your mighty works. Amen and Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

This past Monday, Norma-Jean and I travelled to an old-fashioned Camp Meeting at Cobourg, Ontario. It was there at the altar during the week I turned 17 that God made it crystal clear to me that I was called by Him into the full-time ministry of His Church. I had been praying for some time that God would do me the great honour of giving me such a call. I wanted with all my heart to spend my life working as an ordained minister of Christ. That summer I had spent weekends helping Bob Johnson plant a new congregation in the village of Madoc, Ontario. Bob’s picture was on our High School wall as having qualified for several scholarships, yet here he was, sleeping on the floor of a little apartment, because he did not have the money to buy a bed. That example of sacrifice increased my desire to make the same committment as Bob. If I had been offered a comfortable salary, a nice house and an established pulpit for some future time, I don’t think that I would’ve been interested.

Yours for a high level of fervency in hearing from God and in serving Him,

David

  1. Yes to hear from God is a great pleasure to fervently keep on knocking keep on seeking keep on asking God even hears our prayer as we say ” GOD HELP US ” reach out to Our Father and God Never Fails Amen

  2. Amen. Jesus Christ, fully human and fully God. As in today’s plea to Jesus, “I believe. Help me with my unbelief.” As we grow closer to our Saviour daily reading this blog and scripture while praying and seeking His truth and guidance, may we too find renewal, peace and steadfast love in our lives. For our sake and the sake of others, Amen.

  3. Mount Hermon looks snowy. Thanks Reynold for these revealing photos.
Amen to your Prayer for Today Rev. DM.
Enjoying 100 Huntley St this week with the motorcycle trip.
Blessings on us all this lovely Friday and beginning of Aug.

  4. AMEN, both Davids. I am challenged by the message and prayer today, David. Lord, help us to pray and fast more often and help us to believe it will make a difference in people’s lives. Our morning Campmeeting speaker is a church planter in Quebec and our night speaker is a Cajun evangelist from Louisiana. Meditating on your saying, David. “God responds to us according to our level of commitment.” Remember when the Lord sent a glory cloud at Bible School. How awesome! Blessings saints!

  5. 24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
That is ecaxtly what I am asking God for right now!
    West Africa is crying
My country is crying, they are so scared
They are praying, I am praying
And even though i know God’s timing is the best,
Sometimes the fear just gets to me;(
It gets to me so bad that all I want is for “Jesus Christ to help me overcome my unbelief”. I want an unshaken faith that nothing is going to happen to any or my family members, loved ones, husband to be, relatives and friends. I want to believe without doubt that the God that I serve will forgive west Africa, He will Forgive Sierra, Guinea, Liberia and Nigeria and come to their rescue! Our Father, Who art in Heaven will Deliver these countries from the spirit of Ebola! For “His mercies are new every morning !
Please remember these countries in prayers.
    Stay blessed my fellow bloggers.

  7. It’s exciting to follow your journey from Florida and I think your nephew very much resembles you. I appreciate how humble you are in directing praise and glory to Jesus.

Each day new fresh bread arrives and even although this is the second time around there is always something God reveals to us.

    Blessings fellow bloggers.

  8. Thank you Reynold for your information about the picture…the view of the mountain is quite clear.

Rev. David when read your comment about Peter, James and John…
Psalm 27:4 and 8 came to mind: 27:4 “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the day of my life:…27:8 When you said, “Seek y my face; my heart said unto thee, Ty face, Lord, will I seek”.

Peter’s actions and words on the mountain I can truly relate to…
