DESTROYED FOUNDATIONS

Suggested Reading: Psalms 11-14

Priene was an ancient Greek holy city located just to the north of Miletus in western Turkey. The picturesque ruins include several columns of the Temple of Athena, much of the city wall, and a well-preserved theatre and a council chamber. Priene is not mentioned in the Bible, but it is likely that the early Christians of Miletus (Acts 20:16) had contact with the city. Priene had a substantial Christian community during the Byzantine period.

Key Verse: Psalm 11:3-4a

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven…

Our key verse applies to our time! There are those who are taking jack hammers and bulldozers to the foundations of moral standards laid down over the centuries. The word “if” leaves room for the possibility of saving the values on which western civilization is built. What confidence we have in the fact that God is still on His throne! Let us never forget that God works through His people to change the world. Through the proclamation of the Person and work of Jesus Christ, and through our prayers, our witness, our giving, and our leadership, God is in the process of strengthening the foundations, so that He can continue to build His Church through us in a stronger way than ever! The Carpenter of Nazareth, the One with the calloused hands of a creative working Man, is doing as He promised, “I will build my Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it”!!! (Matthew 16:18b).

There are four Psalms here – A B C – Satan’s strategy to destroy the foundations: (A) Attack! (Psalm 11); (B) Believers back off! (Psalm 12) – Satan will never be able to destroy God’s promise of success, Jesus’ Church! And (C) a Cry from believers will bring the happy ending of the closing verses of Psalms 13 & 14! Let us cry out to God now! “How long! How long! How long! How long!” Four times these words are the cry of the Shepherd King.

Well… what are we waiting for blog partners!!! Let’s just do it!!!I

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray the prayer written by David and presented to the chief musician, “Consider and hear me, O Lord my God!!!” You have promised to hear and answer “yes” to the fervent effectual prayer of a righteous man or woman (James 5:16b). I come before You, as the hymn says, “Dressed in His (Jesus’) righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne!!!!” Amen!!!! For a New Testament reading today, we may want to (click here) read the entire chapter of James 5.

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

As I type this I’m still in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I met with the Board of our U.S. federally chartered (501c3) corporation known as Crossroads USA. One of these days, I hope to introduce on the blog all the Directors of our Boards in both Canada and the United States, but for today, I want to write about the pastor who incorporated Crossroads in the USA. His name is Rev. Albert Vaters. There is a high school in St. John’s, Newfoundland, named after Albert’s father, Rev. Eugene Vaters. His Mom and Dad were among the very first supporters of Crossroads Christian Communications in Canada years ago. When his Dad passed on, Albert found cheques made out to Crossroads, dated for the months ahead. It brings tears to my eyes to think of the faithful people who have given and given to make this ministry possible! Back in the 1960s and 1970s, when Albert was Pastor of Stone Church in downtown Toronto, he also served as Chairman of our Board. Then God called him to Pastor a great church in California. God has blessed the ministry of Albert and his wife Anita in a marvelous way. He participated in yesterday’s board meeting as a very effective Director. When Albert’s Dad was called to higher service above, his Mom moved into a seniors complex at Clark’s Beach, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. For years, every time I was in Newfoundland, I never failed to visit her. What a mighty woman of prayer! She’s in that great prayer meeting before God’s Throne in Heaven now. I would kneel in front of her chair and she would lay hands on me and pray a fervent prayer.

From time to time I still visit God’s saints, kneel in God’s Presence, and I am the most blessed man ever. As the last verse of Psalm 13 says, “He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Yours on behalf of all of us who are expecting God’s bounty,

David

P.S. My son Reynold recently shot a video of me talking about the genesis of this daily blog. We put it on the 100words.ca website in the “About 100words” section (click here). As you encourage others to follow along with us, please share this link with them!

P.P.S. Below is a photo of our chapel at the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario. The pews in the chapel came to us as a result of the renovation of The Stone Church in Toronto, where Albert Vaters was pastor during his years as our Crossroads Board Chairman.

  1. He has dealt bountifully with you, indeed, David! Love the photo of the chapel at the Crossroads Centre! We establish our hearts for the coming of our Lord! Amen! Wishing all saints a blessed day.

  2. “When I am praying most eloquently, I am getting the least accomplished in my prayer life. But when I stop getting eloquent and give God less theology and shut up and just gaze upward and wait for God to speak to my heart He speaks with such power that I have to grab my pencil and notebook and take notes on what God is saying to my heart.” – A.W. Tozer

  3. Good morning David & fellow bloggers,

How wonderful to be reminded that God is on His throne! With all the sadness in our world, we need to remember that.

Thx again David for your faithfulness in this daily writing – at home or away. We can only imagine the commitment of time you spend w/God before we see it here.

    Many blessings to all,

    Only by grace,
    Marg

  4. I am sincerely humbled by you and all the great people of faith in your life. A tremendous inspiration in service and commitment to serve our Lord!!

  5. A few days ago, I knew I was writting God’s Word’s and not mine. Is it my wisdom? No. Then, I felt cautioned. If I speak of God’s Word, should I be proud? No. God made a donkey speak for Him. Is my heart good enough to speak God’s Word? Yet, I knew I was a divot that should be a divot when needed at that time. Stil, is my heart as pure as Moses or David Maines or a person who never speaks but to praise or pray? No. Yet, God lets me know He cares for me and I listen.

  6. If God could speak through a donkey I know He can speak through me by the power of the Holy Spirit that lives I this , ortal body I want to be used in the harvest firld to bring in lost souls because God is not willing that any should prrish but all come into the knowledge of Jesus and call upon the nsme of the Lord to be saved and thank you David for this blog snd your life full of adventures that the Lord your God has brought you into and through snd we thank you father God for continuing to keep David strong and safe as he is away from home in Jesus name Amen

  7. Thank you for the picture of the Chapel, now when they speak of attending Chapel before going to air, I can see you there. David, I appreciate your “blog” each day and share it with friends. In May of 2012 I felt the Lord wanted me to put Scripture verses on my f b page, I started the 4th. of June 2012. A special word would come to me sometimes in the night or early morning. I pray that it will be read by the one needing it most. I have met people who have read the verse, and give God the praise for the gift of His Word. Blessings

  8. Near or far, you Pastor David are always so faithful to getting our blog out to us. THANK YOU.

In these darkened days we are reminded GOD IS STILL ON HIS THRONE!!!
    Hallelujah!

Thanks for sharing and as Beverlee said the picture of the chapel is beautiful.

Blessings and a special dose of God’s touch on those who are suffering today. Anyone heard from Janet lately, trust she is feeling better after her last ordeal, you too Beverlee.

  9. While reading your blog today, David, my husband and I recalled that day at Crossroads, just after the shooting of your program, that you invited all who wanted to come into the Chapel, that you would pray for us. Our concern at that time was our son was not saved.
You knelt down in front of us and prayed that he would come to know The Lord. So humble you were…. We always remember this. And our son Jason did come to invite Jesus into his heart.
We so enjoy this blog because we know from where it comes. May God bless you and your family today and always.

  10. Took my time time reading your blog this morning and echo David’s thought. The Lord has dealth bountifully with you. Like that quote, Scott. How are you doing, Beverlee? The description of man taking jack hammers and bulldozers at the moral foundations aptly decribes what is happening to our world today. And you gave the solution, David. Lord empower us. God bless you, fellow saints.

  11. Thank you David for your commitment to sharing the entire Bible with us in this blog…I can only imagine all the preparation it takes you to get this to us by 6am.God bless the work you are doing. As you said in the video that Reynold took about covering the entire Bible in 2 years…how exciting! I am still new to this blog, but as I open it every morning it becomes just what I needed to start my day Especially today’s reminder that” God is still on his Throne”!!
I also enjoy reading the comments from all the other bloggers…such encourament.
Would it be ok to ask for prayers as I undergo some testing this week?
    Thank you
    Anne

  12. Anne, I pray God will be with you as you undergo your tests this week. That he will be your strength and comfort. I pray for a favorable outcome to the tests and that you are blessed with health and wellness. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

  13. As I in weak human self continue to pray and search for you Lord ! Thank you for putting such a wise man In our path to guide us gently into your loving waiting arms !!!!!

  14. Hello Dear David
I read you with joy and listen like a friend to friend, every morning. Thank you for for this wonderful blog. Peace and joy to you as you live through this time of illness.
A short note to let you know that ‘Eugene Vaters Junior High ‘school now has the name ‘Leary’s Brook Junior High.’ The name change came about when the school system in Newfoundland became integrated.
It never the less, does not change the history or the gifts that the school has given to young students in Christ’s name.
    Your friend in Christ
    Beverley

  15. A reminder of how important it is to come before the Lord in prayer. Our country needs it, as do all people.

How comforting it is to know that “God is on His Throne” and He is faithful, we can lean on Him!!!
David…I found your interview and your new beginnings of this blog, encouraging. Thank you for your faithfulness.

    Irene

  16. On this past Sept. 11 th Brad passionatley spoke of Puals conflict to see God now or to continue to labour etc. Truth is as we all know the choice is not ours to make.
David , Jerry and I love you and Norma -Jean very much. You are always in our prayers but if there is anything else we can do for you both or either one of you
    Please don’t hesitate to call.
Brad spoke about Gods love saying that perhaps He will spare you from what is to come. I believe that is a very real possibility. I believe God loves you that much.
    Psalm 11 vs: 2- 3
    2. For the wicked bend their bows ;
they set their arrows against the
strings to shoot from the shadows
at the up right in heart.
( to shoot from the shadows) as in hitting the twin towers on 911 .
    3. When the foundations are being destroyed what can the up righteous do?
In the wake of 911 and the 12 the aniversery this passege in psalms make me
think of the foundations of the twin towers that were destroyed and how that evil deed has been used ever since to distroy the foundation of America’s Constitution. America was founded on Godly principals.
A must read is The book The Harbinger by Johnathen Cohn for some eye opening
historical facts about the USA and the fact that they parallel the distruction of Israel as told in Isahia 9 see Isahis 9 :10 and 9: 11
The people who perpatrated their evil plan on the American people on 911 are the same people who ( are poised to strike) again , I believe to ussher in the New World Order.
Is that what you speak about Brad.? Is that the evil you thkink David may be spared from?

The strangest thing happened on 911 when I went on 100 words. ca
I found a web sight that cought my intrest because it was 911. It ties in with to days bible study .The Bible is supernatural it is alive. It speaks directly to us
as if it hears our conversations and fallows us in our daily lives.
Which is why I believe Church leaders should not use paraphraises to teach
in Church. We need the living word to speak to us not the preacher.Sorrry but I’m not interested in what the preacher thinks or says I am only interested and trust what God says. I have no faith in man .

Before I disclose this web sight,
First ask your self if you would be willing to consider what leading professional
Architec and Engineers think about buildings. About construction and deconstruction of buildings. If you answer yes I would trust and value their opinions , what would you say if the opinions of over eight hundred and fifty
Architecs and Engineers were unanamous as to their conclusions concerning the
distruction of the twin towers. What if I told you that there are Arcitec and Engineers from three leading Canadian Universities who agree to the findings of the extensive research into the twin towers distruction on 911 . Would you trust a Toronto University , or The University of Gulf , or McMaster University in Hamilton On.?
If you answer yes then I Emplor you to go to www. EA911truth.org
Be patient and look at everything carefully. It is alot to take in and your natural instincts and your good hearts will not want to accept the truth.
The people on the sight are asking us to share this sight to as many as we can.
Much like any one else dose when they have a cause they believe in that has a message of truth.
The proffesionals on this web sight have made it clear that the main stream
media is not alloud to publish this information.
On the sight there are 17 thousand signatures and many personal testimonies from Americans who lost loved ones on 911.There are testimonies from 911 responders who survived.
The media is not permitted to speak to these people about the autopsies of their loved ones.
Also see Susan Lindauer on you tube . She was intrenched in the events surrounding 911 . She was working for the US Gov at the time.
There is a large smire camphaign to try to .discredit this woman.
We are living in dangerous perilous times
Question is can we pamperd Christians meet the challenges that we are about to face. Can we stand up for the truth and not be afraid. Can we suffer the persicution that comes when we speak truth. Just as Jesus did when he went willingly to the cross. I don’t know. I won’t know till I’m looking in to the eyes of
death. I pray I will endure.
At this time I am lving with some persicution ……..for taking a stand , on the truth of 911 and for standing my ground concerning the teaching of straight
word for word bible teaching verses watered down feel good paraphraises that do not speak to my inner being. God is not worried about what the government thinks or what these new age churches think. God is not polliticaly correct.
People can avoid the truth people can bend and twist the truth and Gods word to suit their own needs all they want , but God isn’t sleeping.
    Psalm 11 vs; 3
UWhen the foundations are being distroyed what can the rightious do?
Good question in these end times.
I believe first we have to stop kidding our selves about where we are in these end times concerning prophesy and face the truth
Second be thankful and praise God for his judgement and justise .
God is about to utterly distroy the wicked and evil doings on this war weiry
Planet once and for all. Amen!
    Psalm 4
The Lord is in his holy temple
The Lord is on his heavenly throne
He observes every one on earth,
    his eyes examine them

5 The Lord examines the righteous,
but the wicked, those who love violence he hates with a passion.

6 On the wicked he will rain,
    firey coals and burning sulfer;
ascorting wind will de their lot.

    7 For the Lord is righteous he loves justice;
the up right shall see his face.
    Amen! Amen! and Amen!

  17. I just took a moment to read over the blog again. When I reread my comment
where I said God is about to utterly distroy ………etc. I had to laugh. I did not mean today or tomorrow. Heavens no …….! There is alot of prophesy to be full filled and muchWe can do to fight the good fight until either Jesus returns to rapture the church or we leave this world naturally.
Once I asked Norma-Jean what would you prefer being raptured or passing away.
    She said exitedly “Raptured ”
To which David replied I makes not difference to me, what ever the Lord wants is fine. He said that with a wonderful calm assurance
Me I hope to be raptured. Sweeping through the heavenlies in the twinkling of an eye dose sound exiting. 🙂
Thank you Jesus for your peace that surpasses all under standing in these
    end times. Amen!
    M.

  18. Sorry to comment again but I did not express my thoughts very well today.
Of course I value a man of God . Like David his words are God inspired and he is pure in heart.
It’s just there will certain men who will creep in. We are warned to be ware of end times deception. If what a preacher or pastor says in his own unuque way lines up with scripture then my heart rejoices in the truth. And I am glad.
Like many of you there are many pastors I love to listen to preach the word.
In 2011 my husband and I drove all the way to Atlanta Georgia to listen to Dr. Charles Stanley. We had a wonderful time. I thanked Dr Stanley personally for
through his teachings of Gods word my son was delivered from Alcohol and accepted Christ.
In the future I will not type so fast as to not think my thoughts through more thoroughly.
    M.

  19. David M said the foundations are the spiritual foundations of faith, morality and having a right heart in God’s eyes. Paul said we fight not flesh and blood but powers and principalities in high places. The evil that is coming upon us is from apostacy and it is turning people wicked. 9/11 is not the front line for christians. It is like a decoy. Christians have a bigger fight. I should not cross the street to avoid helping a person that got mugged and then just pray. If I can help a person this seems to be the heart of the fight and confess the truth of Jesus. I don’t need to keep the secrets of evil workers but I should not let them be a decoy to lead me away from the Truth. Also, there be some who would not taste of death till they see Jesus return with great power and glory in the clouds of heaven. I hope He returns soon.

  20. The old hym said it well
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face ,
and the things of earth will grow strangly dim in the light of his glory and grace.

  21. Hi David,

I am humbled to be part of a great Heritage. My grandfather, the late Eugene Vaters was indeed a man of God. I treasured my times with him and enjoyed his simple awe of God’s creation. He taught me many lessons about life, not through his words always but through his actions. I remember him going for walks and bringing back from time to time a discarded piece of wood with nails in it. He would tell me that the nails are still good and the board could be used for a number of things. I think about Christ passing by and picking up our lives and pulling the nails out and saying, ” I can use these talents, this body and find many uses for you in my Kingdom” The discarded, rejected, repulsive lives we leave on the side of the road, are picked up by Christ and used for his Glory, Honour, and Praise.
    Blessing to you David,
    Keith King
