TWO SONS

Today’s Reading: Matthew 21

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

On the East side of the Mount of Olives is Bethphage, where Jesus mounted the unbroken donkey colt and started His triumphal entry down the Mount of Olives and into Jerusalem. This beautiful ceiling painting is in the church known as the Palm Sunday Church. On display in the church is a large square rock that is believed to be the mounting block Jesus used to mount the donkey.

Key Verse: Matthew 21:29-30

He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go.

Chapter 21 begins with the fulfillment of Prophecy (Zechariah 9:9). The people had all studied the Hebrew Scriptures, and after witnessing this Palm Sunday event (the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey), they were open to Jesus’ teaching, the Temple cleansing, cursing the fig tree, His authority, and the parable of the two sons. Jesus’ message is very clear. He judges the promise breaker much more seriously than He does the one who was initially rebellious but ultimately obedient. Two sons are in this story. Like the two sons in this story, we may have made and broken promises. We still have a choice. We can repent of the sin of rebellion and dishonesty and do a 180-degree turn towards God’s plan and purpose for our lives.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord, which kind of son (or daughter) am I? Father, if I have failed to keep my word to You in the past, please bring it to mind, that I may confess, repent, and be made right before You. Thank You. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Please join me every day for fresh Bread. The Word of God is living Bread. I am malnourished mentally and spiritually if I fail to read and meditate on God’s Word daily. I need daily nourishment. Then I am strong! It was 37 years ago this past June 15th that we began the daily 100 Huntley Street telecast from that address in Toronto. For months prior to that beginning, I could not escape the message of Psalm 19:2, 3 and 4. It was constantly in my mind. Please read those verses and meditate on them. This appeared to be what God had in mind for television. So after 15 years of a weekly TV show called Crossroads (1962-1977) and several years of the weekly children’s show called Circle Square, we launched into DAILY television. Of course, I considered not doing this. The cost was huge, but God gave me, our Board of Directors, and our team members the grace to obey the “Day unto day utters speech” of Psalm 19, and God’s Word went out daily on Canadian television. God responded through the prayers and generous support of His people.

Love and prayers for the grace of obedience,

David

P.S. I overheard a conversation at the Crossroads Centre earlier this week. There is a need for special offerings as the ministry heads into the summer. Please join me in supporting this most worthy cause. With credit card in hand you can call 1-800-265-3100 and make a gift to this area of God’s work, or you can donate online here. The mail still works and the addresses are…

In the USA: Crossroads, Box 486, Niagara Falls, NY  14302

Thank you for your partnership in enabling a “Day unto Day” ministry!

Located at 100 Huntley Street in downtown Toronto, this is the leased building which served as our studio and offices from 1977 to 1992. The lease ran out and sadly it was torn down. The corporate headquarters of Rogers Communications (cable TV, internet services, etc.) is now located here.

  1. What an awesome guest u had on 100 Huntley St. yesterday – Edgar Harrell, author of “Out of the Depths”. Will get his book for sure for my husband.
Beautiful ceiling painting pic today Reynold – thank you.
I wonder why Jesus is called “son of David”?
    Blessings dear souls.

  2. Our first impulse may be to answer no, but how many times has the Holy Spirit prompted us to say yes. This is not a case of weakness at first on our part, but a case of spiritual strength infused through our being. We can accept our initial reponse as mistaken. However, being joyful in Our Lord does not mean that everything is perfect. It means that we have decided to look beyond our imperfections and take right choices of actions. Lord, help us to be aware of our impulses and yield to Your Will for our lives. His strength and blessings, to all!

  3. Lynda…in answer to your good question,
“Son of David”, as we read also in Matt.12:23,
    20:30; 22:41-45 and 1:1. This was a popular
Jewish title for the coming Messiah.
Matt. 1:1 …this is the genealogy of Jesus the
Messiah the Son of David, the son of Abraham.
(NIV). Enjoy a day filled with God’s blessings.

  4. I had difficulty meditating on Psalm 19 versus 2,3, and 4. So I went to bible gateway and read the entire Psalm. It made more sense to me after reading verse 1… God chose this passage of scripture to light a fire under your faith David. Praise God! Amen!

I need this fresh bread daily as well. Without it to start my day, I have often found that I rather than He who lives in me comes forth…

Thank you Jesus for reaching David Mainse through Psalm 19. Your Will channels through our brother and teacher David Mainse with Your power and Your authority. This is an awesome blog Father. Praise you Father for Your Honour and Your Glory! Amen!

  5. Saw today’s program re: prescription drug epidemic. My doctor, being careful to prescribing non-opiates, changed my pain med to one costing $600.00 ($7 per pill). I can take 2 a day not covered by OHIP. I’m
having 4th surgery in 2 1/2 months next week.(risky one). Cost high & alternative not as affective. I do agree- young folk NEED TO KNOW TRUTH about drugs/drink.

  6. Amen to your blog, David and fellow bloggers. This fresh bread is my daily intake. A year ago today I had my heart surgery and my heart specialist gave me a good report this week. Praise God for your healing too David and your exploits. Have been attending the graduation of two in my family yesterday and a school closing today. Praise God all saints!

    • It’s hard to believe Ger that it has been one year, but I pray your health will continue to be good and you feel well. Blessings.

  7. Thank you Pastor David for your prayer. I too needed to be reminded of things I have promised and not followed through on. Forgive me Lord as I ask you to bring to mind those things I need to bring before you and repent.

Enjoy this lovely weather we are having here in Ontario.

  8. Mathew 21:21 Jesus said…”If you have faith and do not doubt you shall not only do this which which is done to the fig tree, but also if you shall say unto this mountain, be removed, and be cast into the sea, it shall be done.

What about the mountains in our lives, such as: self pity; anger, jealousy; envy; judgementalism; criticism; greed, indulgence; These mountains will be removed from us by God’s Grace, by faith, if we believe and do not doubt, and be cast into the sea, in the Name of Jesus!!! And set us free!!!

  9. Thank you Catherine. I will always remember and be grateful for the prayers of you dear fellow bloggers. God bless you always.
