Suggested Reading: Isaiah 39-40

This bronze eagle, found in Pella Greece, is now on display at the Archaeological Museum. It sure looks like this eagle is "mounting up with wings," as our key verse tells us. Let's all stretch our wings and fly onward and upward in our relationship with God!!!

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait on the Lord

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

In his book, Isaiah gives us God’s Word! Isaiah said to King Hezekiah, “Hear the Word of the Lord!” (39:5). Hezekiah would pray and God would answer through His Prophet. This was the way it was in Old Testament times. False prophets were plentiful and they would distort God’s message, or simply make up something and claim they had heard from God. This was a dangerous time for God’s people. They did not have the book of Isaiah, let alone Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. As John wrote in his first chapter, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!!!” The Apostle Peter’s words in 2 Peter 1:15-21 bring together “our Lord Jesus Christ” and “the prophetic Word.” Essentially, God summed up all He had to say to the world in His Son and our Saviour and Lord, Jesus. Read Matthew 17:1-8 and note the words, “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased. HEAR HIM!!!”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

O Lord God, I pray for grace to follow You so closely that I will know all that You are saying to me. You promised that “My sheep know My voice.” By this I know that I am hearing directly from You and not just from someone else speaking for You, as the true prophets like Isaiah did. You, Lord Jesus, are the One of Whom Isaiah wrote, “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom” (Isaiah 40:11a). What assurance I have in the knowledge that You are holding me and that I am hearing from You! In Your Name, Jesus, I pray. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

This past Sunday at church here in Burlington, Pastor Kevin Shepherd preached a great message. I’m so glad I’m able to get to church regularly. I know that I heard New Testament prophecy, as described in Revelation 19:10b, “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.” On the birthday of the Church, Peter took as the text for his message the words of the Prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-29, Acts 2:14-21). Peter said that as the 120 spoke of Jesus on the streets of Jerusalem, they (sons, daughters, all of them), were prophesying. These were New Testament prophets. I want to daily share Jesus. In this understanding, when I do this blog each morning, I’m functioning as a New Testament prophet. And so are you when you share Jesus with someone!

Pastor Shepherd also launched a new initiative for 2014. It’s a campaign called, “Because I said so!” All in attendance were given a sticker to put in a prominent place, like on the back of our cell phones, which reminds us that God’s promises can be relied upon! We will also receive a text message each week with one of God’s promises selected by the Pastor. I have no doubt that one of them will be our key verse, and again we’ll be encouraged to “Wait on the Lord…mount up with wings as eagles.” Because God said so, we will “run and not be weary,” and “walk and not faint.”

Yours for hearing and understanding God’s Word to each one of us,

David

  1. I just love the key verse you have pointed out, David Mainse; so awesome your pastor has used it to encourage your church members in 2014 and call on them to make a plan to incorporate God’s Word into their lives. All of Isaiah’s message in 40:28-31 is so inspiring:

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
    The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
    Neither faints nor grows weary.
    His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
    Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”

    The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
    Neither faints nor grows weary.
    His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
    Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”

Our everlasting God is all powerful, strong, and never grows weary! His understanding is unsearchable–wow! No words could be clearer to explain the awesome God we serve! You give power and strength to the weak. You renew those who wait on You, Lord! Mounting up with wings like eagles, we run and are not weary; we walk and are not faint! Indeed, we are your sheep and hear your voice leading us, Lord! we follow you as you lead us home to eternal life, Lord! Praise God!

May all the saints be blessed today, and all who call to claim Him be saved. Let us fall on bended knee, Lord, and raise our hands high to worship You, indeed! In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!

  2. Everyday I need Gods strength to hear his voice and obey
Like a shepherd he leads his flock
    And slowly leads them on
Holding them tenderly in his arms
    Leading them home
How wonderful to have this bible study to lift us up and encourage us and rest in the Lord and wait upon Him (our Father ) to lead and guide us praise God from all blessings flow
Thank you in Jesus name Amen

  4. This also is a favourite verse of mine. A girlfriend of mine made me a cross stitch of this verse and I have it all my kitchen wall. It is very beautiful. A dear saint at our church went home to be with her Lord and on the day of the funeral, this was the verse that was highlighted. It was her favourite of hers as well.
Have a great day blog-buddies and try to keep warm – it’s frigid out there!!!

  5. Seems like there has always been false prophets. Praise the Lord we have our bible to check up on their word.
Lovely passages today. Thanks as always.

  6. I think this is a favorite verse for many. Mine too. I have quoted it often in the last two years as our family has gone thru some tragedies but MY GOD has been faithful, as you have been Pastor David to our blog. May your healing continue and to all my blog saints……..A BIG THANK YOU and blessings to all.

  7. Amen, David, Beverlee and a thank you, Catherine from an encouraging word you gave me a while back. That key verse is what is needed for the new year. I am carefully reading every blog and they are encouraging. Thank you, David for sharing all your inspirations with us; makes us feel like we are all one big family and we can apply these verses to our lives as well. Yesterday it was dealing with rain by making drains, cleaning eaves troughs and snow; good thing it got rid of so much snow here. Yet we can keep our eyes on Jesus for in Him is everlasting strength. Blessings!

  8. Missed yesterday’s blog so did two today. Praise to our Lord for answering all prayers for you David. The Lord is our healer, just as your Pastor Shepherd said, “because I said so.” What a testimony that Jesus is healing you and all His saints. We trust in His promises knowing that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
The rain we received here in Sydney has certainly brought the snow down. I guess it makes room for more that is to come, because winter far from over.
Stay warm and safe everyone. God bless you all.

  9. Good Morning David:
I have been receiving the 100 Words for about a year now, good inspirational reading that I likely would not be doing otherwise, so keep it going!
Great news about your leukemia, aahh…just gotta love the power of prayer.
I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer 3 years ago, immediately went on the hormone injection treatment program as the clinical numbers ruled out surgery. Lo & behold the PSA reading came down to zero & remained there so after 2-1/2 years everything was stable, the cancer did not progress out of the prostate so I was a candidate for the Brachytherapy (radiation seed implant). I completed the procedure October 21, 2013 and so far all is well, we are anticipating this has kicked the crap out of those bad cells! However, nothing is guaranteed so aside from the prayers I keep saying it would be great to include me in some of yours & your readers.
We live in High River, AB and our home was not spared from the flood, the lower level was totally destroyed along with everything in it that went into the dumpster. But the good news is that we just buckled down to rebuild our lives & home, happily to say this was done by mid November so life has returned to some semblance of normality.
Thanks for your thoughts & prayers…….you are in mine!

  10. Nes Davison …I pray continued healing and strength for you especially…Praise God He is able to do far above all things…so good to hear you and your household are settling into your home and things are slowly getting into order…may the Joy that only comes from our Lord Jesus Christ be your strength…In His Mighty Name I pray…Amen!!!
