THE WORD OF GOD

Today’s Reading: Luke 4

These hills are part of the Judean wilderness that Jesus likely would have walked through during His 40 days of temptation, as recorded in Luke 4. Here Jesus confronted Satan by quoting His Bible, the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. Satan fled in defeat!!!

Key Verse: Luke 4:4

But Jesus answered him, saying,It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'”

We can be sure that Satan will tempt each one of us. We need to learn the strategy of spiritual warfare employed by Jesus. (1) He was filled with the Holy Spirit. (2) He was filled with the Word of God. (3) He was protected by the armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-17). (4) He was constantly in prayer (Ephesians 6:18). Remember that Jesus never used His 100% God essence to help Himself. He lived His life as 100% Man; a Man filled with the Word and the Spirit. Psalm 119:11 in Jesus’ Hebrew Bible says, “Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” As we read the Scriptures, having our eyes connected to our brains can provide a head knowledge. That is not sufficient to overcome temptation. God’s Word must move into our minds AND hearts. How to do this? Pray the Word we have read. Ask the Holy Spirit to write that Word on our hearts and minds. Meditate on that Word throughout the day. Let us quote the Word in our prayers. Share that Word with someone else. Victory over Satan is ours. Amen!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I praise and worship You! You are victorious over the world, the flesh, and the Devil. I know that You live in me, and, therefore, I am more than a conqueror too. I pray for Your 24/7 grace to overcome the temptation that Satan brings. Fill me now and always with Your Word and Your Spirit. I believe I am filled and I rejoice in You. Hallelujah! Praise Your Holy Name! You are “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Amen and Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

While I can only put a brief prayer here, I continue on with worship. His Presence, which I know is a fact, soon becomes my experience. As I continue to praise Him, I know I am filled with His Spirit. My new day is off to a great start, and by being conscious of His constant Presence, my entire day is blessed. My Bible College days were important, not only in preparation for future ministry, but also for the daily experience of God’s Presence. Rev. George Griffin was one of my teachers. He taught the first five books of the Bible (the Pentateuch). Somewhere in Leviticus, it can get very dry apart from the Presence of God. Before starting to teach, Rev. Griffin would begin to pray in a relatively quiet voice. He would say with such reverence, “Father.” Then he would pause. I would sense the Presence of God moving into the classroom. I weep now as I think of how this man carried God’s Presence in such a way as to open my heart and mind to God’s Word.

Yours for overcoming, victorious living,

David

P.S. On this day in 2001, Islamic terrorists attacked the United States. Close to 3000 innocent civilians were murdered. The world needs desperately to believe in “The Prince of Peace,” the Lord Jesus Christ!!! Crossroads is effectively reaching around the world, along with other Christian ministries. Your prayers and support are more important than ever! Amen!!!

  1. Thinking back to the morning of Tuesday, September 1, 2001, when the attack on the world trade center towers brought such devastation. Each of us can recall exactly where we were at the time we first heard the news, paralyzed by what we saw unfold on the television screens, before us. Those haunting images hold the same impact now as they did, then. To those who lost precious loved ones and/or whose lives were marred by physical deformities and haunting trauma, God only knows why. We shall never forget. Our prayers are with you, in memory, and heart. We lift you up today, to our God. May His loving hand be upon you. Until you reunite in heaven with those you lost, may your heart continue to hold them, in perfect peace. Know how very much you are loved, dear child of God.

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. I would like to re-post this from Lynda, September 11, 2018. We haven’t heard from you in quite sometime, Lynda. We are praying for you:

    Stirring 9/11 Tribute:

“Stanley Praimnath was an executive with Fuji Bank working on the eighty-first floor of the South Tower (World Trade Center 2) when United Airlines Flight 175 flew into his building. The jet’s left wing sliced through his office and lodged in a door twenty feet from him.

He was able to escape his office with the help of a man fleeing from the eighty-fourth floor. Together they made their way down the stairwell and out of the building. After they walked two blocks from the South Tower, it collapsed.

Praimnath says, ‘I still have the shoes I wore to work that day. The soles are melted and they’re caked in ash. I keep them in a shoebox with the word ‘Deliverance’ written all around it. They’re kind of like my ark, a reminder of God’s presence and the life I owe to him.’ “

    • Thank you,Beverlee. That event was a turning point and ever since man and nations have been realigning to choose one of two sides in which Israel will be centre. That final battle may be too quick for her allies to come to her aid since God will end it decisively for all time and eternity.God bless

  3. Dear Lord Jesus, You overcame so much: persecution, temptation, threats of death, ultimately even death itself! You understand our trials and are committed to us. Thank You. Help all Your people everywhere to go through their challenges filled with Your Word and Your Spirit, armed and armoured by You, with their eyes fixed on You, the author and finisher of our faith.
Thank You for people like Dr Griffin, David Mainse and Bob Smith, people who went through life showing others the reality of Your presence in them. Fill us again with Your Spirit, Lord, so we also will be witnesses of Your presence in us. So others may know. In Jesus’s name, amen

Powerful worship. May we broken on our knees calling out to our Almighty God. May we be strengthened through the Holy Spirit to go forth boldly TODAY, not tomorrow, TODAY to share the Word of God, that we would not be concerned but be in anguish and see through God’s eyes the need for salvation in our families lives, our neighbours, our communities. God we ask that you would share more of your heart with us today that we would see with greater clarity, that your Spirit would go with us and there would be God appointments this day. I pray for true repentance that you would be my all, Praise God!!

  6. I will not be able to post tomorrow morning, fellow saints. But will come on board when I return, later in the day. God bless you.

Ready to watch Bible Discovery with Rod and Janice Hembree. Joy-V
It goes through the bible in one year.

  11. Thank your prayers sister Beverlee. Our family held a committal service for my brother Vinal today with our long time Pastor and then a reception at Vinal’s home afterwards for all the family. It was good to be reminded again that Vinal prayed with his daughter before he passed. Also it was good to be connected to members of the family again, something that doesn’t happen often enough these days. Praying for a safe delivery of this baby as well. .
