The impressive, beautifully preserved Greco-Roman ruins of ancient Jerash, located 80 miles north of Amman, Jordan. This is one of the ten cities of “The Decapolis.” According to Mark 5:20, Jesus was proclaimed here by the man who was delivered from many demons.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 25:32-33

Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! And blessed is your advice and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to bloodshed and from avenging myself with my own hand.”

To understand this brief commentary we must have read the Scripture reading for today, asking the Lord to turn on the light of understanding for us.
Nabal was wrong in refusing to help David, but David was also wrong in his decision to take revenge against Nabal. Sometimes, in anger and frustration, we make decisions we would never consider in calmer moments. Hasty decisions can be dangerous, and when they are accompanied by rash, irresponsible actions, they can cause irreparable harm. Finally, as David listened to Abigail, he realized that God was speaking to him through her. God speaks to us in a variety of ways. It could be that He will use our Pastor, a friend, or even a stranger to communicate with us. He may speak through His Word, which we are reading each day, or through a television ministry such as 100 Huntley Street. Sometimes He guides us through circumstances, and we are not even aware that He’s going before us, showing us the way.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I need Your guidance constantly. Help me to watch for Your leading in the happenings of my life every day. Help me to listen carefully to Your still small voice within. You said, Lord Jesus, “My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they will follow Me” (John 10:27). I pray that I will spend sufficient time in reading Your Word and in prayer so I am conscious of the fact that I am in Your presence. I pray this through the Cross of the Lord Jesus. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My wife has a life verse from the Bible. It’s Proverbs 3:5 & 6, which tells her, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Over our almost 59 years of marriage, she has quoted that to me hundreds of times. She even wrote a song about it, “He Shall Direct Thy Paths,” which was published by The Gospel Publishing House in Springfield, Missouri. I got the message! I’ve heard solos, trios, and at least one choir sing her song. Even before we were married, Norma-Jean and I agreed together to claim this promise as from God. On her first letter to me, the following Scripture was printed across the top of the page by the printer who had created the stationery: “Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). I got the message from God. I knew that Norma-Jean was God’s choice of a wife for me!

Yours for reading and following the directions, God’s Directions,

David

P.S. Here is another 100 Huntley Street “Flashback” segment by my son Ron, which he recorded a while back, leading up to program 10,000. The interview guest was someone who used to be like David in today’s reading…a quick-tempered warrior (click HERE).

  1. Wonderful message, scriptures 🙂 and testimony from Jake the Snake, this morning! Amen, dear David, Norma-Jean, and blessed saints, in the Lord!

    HIS WAY

    “God bade me go when I would stay
    (‘Twas cool within the wood);
    I did not know the reason why.
    I heard a boulder crashing by
    Across the path where I stood.
    He bade me stay when I would go;
    “Thy will be done,” I said.
    They found one day at early dawn,
    Across the way I would have gone,
    A serpent with a mangled head.
    No more I ask the reason why,
    Although I may not see
    The path ahead, His way I go;
    For though I know not, He doth know,
    And He will choose safe paths for me.”

  3. Amen David… enjoyed your poem and Hallelujah brought tears to my eyes Beverlee…

    Have a great day for Christ brothers and sisters… God Bless!

  4. ‘Forgiveness is an eraser ….’

    The flashback video made me think of 3 of my poems that touch on forgiveness,perhaps the most powerful form of love.Forgiveness is an eraser whereby we can exercise the gift of free choice to erase the ‘mistakes’ of others as well as our own.

    Forgiveness

    Forgiveness is a gift we receive,
    And freely we must give it too,
    To prove to Him we do believe,
    Forgiveness also works for you.

    When a friend stabs your back,
    Do not turn and choose to attack;
    But smile and take up his slack
    To show the faith you do not lack.

    When you forgive it then returns,
    For your heart is then lightened
    While given the freedom it yearns
    And your mind is then enlightened.

    Let His healing hand touch your soul,
    Then may His love render you whole,
    For Satan will try to collect a toll;
    If your faith is weak you give control

    But someone you may overlook
    Is one you may be least kind to;
    For mistaken paths that you took;
    The one you forgive must be you.

    This is the poem I wanted most.The one
    above was written for Grieving Mothers.org.
    I lost memory of the 3rd but #3 here I stumbled
    upon when I opened a file by mistake.hmmmn?
    The Holy Seed

    Does God ever make mistakes,
    Does He regret where He has led
    When each step His child takes
    Dries up the blood His Son has shed.

    Now I fear I am now lost,
    When I try to do what is right,
    For mistakes are the cost
    But it’s His blood that wins my fight.

    So forgive myself I must,
    For,if not,then in vain He died
    And I would yield His trust,
    Then they could say my Savoir lied.

    So get back upon your feet
    And know Satan is a liar
    Cast down in his defeat
    To burn ever in hell fire.

    No,God never makes mistakes,
    But His ways are above our own,
    So know,each child He makes
    Is of the holy seed He’s sown.

    A Kiss By Love

    The vastness of the sins we wrought
    Was cancelled by one wooden cross,
    For there alone forgiveness was bought
    By the Gift of His Son who took our loss.

    What caused this Man of holy reign
    To take our sins of unholy shame
    And with His blood give hope again,
    When He was least of all to blame?

    This King of kings who rose above,
    Broke the serpent’s strangle hold,
    For hate was given a kiss by love
    In the greatest story ever told.

  5. Thank you Pastor David for sharing the Word and your heart. Remember Norma Jean singing the song you mentioned. Lovely! Read that poem as well Beverlee today from ” Streams in the Desert.” Good poems as well William. A verse that came to me this morning was from Jude 3, “”Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write to you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Blessings!

  6. Blessed by today’s message, the wisdom of Abigail’s quick thinking and action to prevent what could have been a tragedy of the vengeful action David had chosen to take.
    You are so right Pastor David, that sometimes in anger and frustration we make decisions that we later regret. Your words of wisdom are always appreciated. Thank you for bringing this precious Word to us daily!
    The video of Jake the Snake, is a great proof of God’s love for all who will turn to Him, in repentance. God is no respecter of persons! Praise His Holy Name!!!

  7. Always enjoy what you have written. I am presently unwell. I will go to my doctor to-morrow for a diagnosis. I would appreciate your prayers. I am 2 years older than you, David

    • Lord God, cover Ruth with Your precious blood and keep her in Your care. Enlighten her doctors as to her prognosis and treat her accordingly. Bring renewal and healing upon her. In Jesus’s Mighty Name. Amen.

    • Lord we thank You for this blog! It allows many to bring forth their concerns, their praises of thanksgiving, their daily needs, and we as their brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ offer our prayers of healing, patience, grace, mercy, peace over all who involved with the running of this bog and all those who respond in various ways!
      Lord You know all of our needs! You are with Ruth right now, and have been all this time, You will be with her as she receives the diagnosis, we pray Lord that this will be good news, she may just be feeling a bit down due to the coming of spring, with winter leaving its last bit of cold…..we thank You Lord that You have us in Your arms, we have always been there, thank you, it is very comforting…..in Jesus Name we Pray amen

  8. David Proverbs 3:5-6 are scriptures I need a lot,and are highlighted in my bible I have kept them in my heart they help me a lot , I wish that I could of

  10. Lord TY for volunteer doing income tax, do not have to pay, but still have to send in form, Lord, asking for BIG financial breakthrough, need to clear off loan, all I am paying is the interest, I have learned some valuable lessons with money, TY Lord for being patient with me, TY for TH, she is so sweet and very helpful, TY for this day with Eva, TY for the car, give me energy to clean up back room, please heal my allergy on my lips, TY Lord, grant me a good sleep tonight, TY in Jesus Name I Pray amen

  11. Interesting. About 20 years ago, I had that scripture reference given to me in a dream one night. Not the actual scripture, just “Poverbs 3: 5 & 6”. When I woke up in the morning, I ran to my Bible to look it up. I was concerned I’d forget it before I got to my Bible and actually looked it up (the way you often forget dream details once you fully wake up) but the reference was so loud and clear in my dream, I did not forget.

    The one from 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. One time my mom wrote that out on a piece of paper and slipped it into my bag for me to “find” when I got home and unpacked the items in the bag. I still have that little piece of paper, which I look at often.
