ANGELS ON GUARD

Today’s Reading: Exodus 23-24

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

Two Cherubim kneel on top of a replica of the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies at Timna National Park located in the Jordan Rift Valley. Also, Cherubim are seen on the veil that divides the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place.

Key Verse: Exodus 23:20

Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

Obviously, God encourages the creation of sculptures, like the Cherubim in Reynold’s picture, but bowing before them and worshiping them is wrong. Exodus 23:19 is the basis for the entire “Kosher” food system of observant Jews today. The religious Jews have taken a simple command not to boil a calf in the milk of its mother and expanded it enormously. We need to be careful to avoid such a religious trap. Again we read (24:4) “early in the morning.” It’s not that we earn brownie points by rising early to seek God; it’s an indication of fervency for God to which He responds. Seventy-four people saw the God of Israel (24:10). What an awesome description of what they saw. Revealing Himself in this way was God’s initiative. Continue serving Him and He will do what He will do to reveal Himself to us in an infinite variety of ways. Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). We must keep our eyes on Jesus!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You are God and also the Messenger of God. Keep me in the way, and bring me into the place which You have prepared. Like Moses, I have built an altar. An altar can have many forms. Bless this altar, Lord God, called “100words.ca.” Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I want to say thanks to those that have helped this almost computer illiterate person to do this two-year daily journey through the Holy Bible. This blog is sponsored by Crossroads Christian Communications Inc., a federally chartered non-profit charity in both Canada and the United States. Norma-Jean and I receive an official receipt for our giving to the ministry which we use on our income tax return. I enjoy directing some of our money, which would otherwise go to the government, in a different way…God’s work. In a sense, the government is also God’s work. I read Romans 13:1-7 from time to time. It gives me a more positive attitude toward paying taxes, whether I agree or disagree with government decisions. Your support for Crossroads is as vital for the future as it has been in the past. Crossroads360.com has six, 24/7, world-wide internet “channels” (you’ll find them along the top navigation bar – Everyday Life, Explore Faith, God Stories, Music, Kidspace, and News). Please pray! We all can maintain and expand Crossroads powerful ministry by praying, giving and working together. Jesus is our connecting link to God for prayer, and here’s a link for giving a secure on-line donation…click here. Crossroads needs all of us to help if possible in order to end the financial year with a solid foundation for the new year which begins this September first. Thank You! Thank You! Thank you!

Yours in thankfulness to God and to you,

David

P.S. Norma-Jean and I travel to Florida on September 3rd. God willing I’ll be taking up some responsibilities at Southeastern University and Norma-Jean and I expect to be entertaining students in the Theology and Communications Departments two evenings each week in order to mentor them in their faith in Christ, prayerfully encouraging them to rise to their full potential in academic excellence. For the information of readers of my blog in the USA, Crossroads is a 501c3 charity in the United States and issues tax receipts valid for charitable giving. We have opened a new USA office in Atlanta, Georgia. Here’s information for supporting the work of Crossroads in the USA and from the USA to the world (click here). A major expansion of Crossroads outreaches in the USA is launching the first week of September as 100 Huntley Street begins airing on GEB America, which is available to over 34 million households. Here are some details about where this channel is available in the USA (you can also watch the livestream of the channel online here). Crossroads needs your support to do this. God bless!!!

    • Thanks, David. When I read your post, it touched me. Timing is of the essence right now for things that are unfolding in my life. God is in control. I have no need to worry. His timing will manifest accordingly. I place my trust and faith in Him! Amen!

  4. Amen to your Prayer for Today Rev. DM.
I definitely don’t agree with how our government spends my tax dollars so will gladly donate to your worthy cause. May your programming continue indefinitely.
God be with you and all dear saints.

  5. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

    Numbers 32:13
    New International Version
The LORD’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

    • Mentioning 146 times in Scripture, the number 40 generally symbolizes a period of testing, trial or probation. During Moses’ life he lived forty years in Egypt and forty years in the desert before God selected him to lead his people out of slavery. Moses was also on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights, on two separate occasions (Exodus 24:18, 34:1 – 28), receiving God’s laws. He also sent spies, for forty days, to investigate the land God promised the Israelites as an inheritance (Numbers 13:25, 14:34).

The prophet Jonah powerfully warned ancient Nineveh, for forty days, that its destruction would come because of its many sins. The prophet Ezekiel laid on His right side for 40 days to symbolize Judah’s sins (Ezekiel 4:6). Elijah went 40 days without food or water at Mount Horeb. Jesus was tempted by the devil not just three times, but MANY times during the 40 days and nights he fasted just before his ministry began. He also appeared to his disciples and others for 40 days after his resurrection from the dead.

The number forty can also represent a generation of man. Because of their sins after leaving Egypt, God swore that the generation of Israelites who left Egyptian bondage would not enter their inheritance in Canaan (Deuteronomy 1). The children of Israel were punished by wandering the wilderness for 40 years before a new generation was allowed to possess the promised land. Jesus, just days before his crucifixion, prophesied the total destruction of Jerusalem (Matthew 24:1 – 2, Mark 13:1 – 2). Forty years after his crucifixion in 30 A.D., the mighty Roman Empire destroyed the city and burned its beloved temple to the ground.

  6. Dear David,

thank you for the spiritual nourishment every morning. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways. It is an honour and a privileged to support Crossroads both financially and through prayer.

  7. Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Names sake. Thank you Jesus, you lead me in the way I should go.

What a blessing you and your loved ones are in so many ways. Thank you

and I’m thankful for your ministry, and do support it financially…it is worth our support

  8. So glad Crossroads is expanding so abundantly in the USA. Praise God through whom all blessings flow. Your dedication to and work for the Lord is evident, David Mainse! Amen! Bless you and Norma-Jean as you travel to Florida next week, and for the classes you will lead at the university! I, too, love the photo, today.

    On Angels’ wings–how divine.
We praise You, Lord, on bended knee.
For You alone, give us the grace.
    We trust, forevermore, in Thee!

  9. got way behind on reading the blog but it is good! Camp David Accord? signed in 1979 by President Anwar Sadat of Egypt, Prime Minister Begin of Israel and President Jimmy Carter of United States! They prayed to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! Then there was 1948! God brought the people of Israel out on the “wings of an eagle” This has really impacted me to pray for the Middle East! It gets so complicated sometimes and all I can say is “God, You know what is happening and I am trusting You to lead the whole situation!” I also rememered why I got bogged down last time, Exodus is some reading!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blessings to all.
