THE BLAME GAME

Today’s Reading: Genesis 3-4

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

On the lower slope of the Mount of Olives is the Garden of Gethsemane. It is claimed that some of the olive trees here are over 2,000 years old - perhaps these trees were the ones under which Jesus' disciples slept during the night of His arrest. Like Adam and Eve, no doubt they had excuses for their failure to obey. Jesus had told them to "Watch and pray!" The building you see in the background is "The Church of All Nations".

Key Verse: Genesis 3:12

Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

A most important Word that Jesus used over and over is “Repent.” Adam and Eve provide us with examples of what repentance is NOT! They attempted to blame others for their sin. Adam blamed both God and Eve. Eve blamed the serpent. The message is, “STOP THE BLAME GAME!” Pray the sinner’s prayer which Jesus guaranteed would make a person right with God: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13). Two verses following the key verse, God Himself gives the first prophecy. He speaks of a most unique event to come. All through the Bible in procreation, it’s the seed of the man, e.g. Abraham (Galatians 3:29), but Jesus is the “Seed of the woman” (Genesis 3:15). He crushes Satan. Satan comes in many forms to tempt us. Remind him that his head is crushed by Jesus. Jesus gives us power (authority) to join Him in trampling on the serpent and “Nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). Confess it! Believe it!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You and I are “trampling” on the serpent. James wrote,”Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). I do this now, Lord Jesus. The devil has no power over me. In Your authority, Lord Jesus, I pray. AMEN!

 PERSONAL WORDS:

Every day before going live to air with the daily 100 Huntley Street telecast, I would state in front of the other hosts, the on-air guests, and the studio audience, words something like this…”We trample on Satan in Jesus’ Name! We pull down the ‘strongholds’ of the enemy” (2 Corinthians 10:4). On the human level we do not defend ourselves. No defence! No offence!  We are to love one another, whether friend or enemy! “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). Throughout almost 10,000 telecasts, Jesus, our production and administration team, our financial supporters, our on-air guests, our telephone prayer partners (almost 10,000,000 phone calls) have confirmed the crushing of Satan’s head, and have watched God accomplish mighty works for time and eternity in the lives of infinitely precious people.

To the current Crossroads team and every reader of my blog, KEEP TRAMPLING!!!

David

  1. We are to confess our sin and He is faithful to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness
Hallelujah to the Lamb of God for dying to give us life we love You Lord Jesus for your mercy endures forever
I ll keep trampling on the devil s head Amen

  2. Amen! God is so good, even when we mess(ed) up, He had a plan to redeem us though the blood of the Lamb(Jesus).
What a love story we are reading!
I am planning to put Ephesians 6:12 to memory.

  3. Olive tree pic and its longevity is awesome. Thanks Reynold.
So many questions today. When the Lord said that man (Adam?) had become like one of “us” knowing good and evil, who was he talking to? Where did Cain’s wife come from? Did siblings procreate with siblings?
Have a blessed long weekend all.

    • Lynda, the ‘Related Resources’ link on the right side of Bible Gateway might help answer your questions as it links to commentaries, study bibles, dictionaries and encyclopedies; great for research.

      • Thank you Beverlee Kay. Read RBC Ministries Daily Bread every day too and the resource is on their website. Never really noticed before. Blessings.

  4. Lord, You are the way, the truth and the light. You have not promised days without pain or sun without rain, but you have promised strength for the day and light to show us Your way. May His strength and blessings be yours today!

  5. We see so clearly the effects of sin, but also the gracious plan of salvation.
God had a plan in place to save mankind through His Son Jesus!!!
    Blessings to all.

  6. Repent and stop the blame game–amen! “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”’ Luke 18:13-14

Now that is a powerful teaching from our Lord. Amen!!

“God hath His mountains bleak and bare,
    Where He doth bid us rest awhile;
Crags where we breathe a purer air,
Lone peaks that catch the day’s first smile.
God hath His deserts broad and brown–
    A solitude–a sea of sand,
Where He doth let heaven’s curtain down,
    Unknit by His Almighty hand.”
“The Lord hath sent strength for thee”

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do … I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:13-14

Wishing beloved saints a most blessed day!

  7. Bless the Lord O my soul and Bless His Holy Name and forget not all His benefits….
from Psalm 103. Thank you Lord Jesus for ALL YOUR BENEFITS!

There definitely is a need to stop the “Blame Game” in Jesus Name, that seems to be so prevalent, from the beginning of its inception, but we are able to stop the flow, in Jesus Name!

“Trampling on satan” in the Mighty Name of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

  8. God’s mercy and love are shown in the fact He made clothes for Adam and Eve and provided a place for them to live, increasing their family, even after their sinning. How blessed we are to have such a Father who loves us and wants what is best for us. Thank you Pastor David for encouraging us to Trample on Satan.

    In Jesus Precious Name. Amen.

  9. I noticed that in my e-mail the Bible used for the reading is the NIV which does not use the word seed. It confused me at first when reading your comments until I got out my American Standard Version which used the word seed. I noticed when going to make a comment that on the web site the King James Version is used. If readers are not used to using a Bible they may find these discrepancies confusing. Why is not the same version used in both the website and the emails we receive?

    • The NKJV is used for the main link each day, then the NIV is used if someone wants to listen to the passage, because Biblegateway does not have NKJV available as an audio reading. All key verse quotes are from the NKJV, as this is David Mainse’s favourite translation.

  10. I appreciate the pictures that Reynolds provides to enhance and illustrate the Blog also. It is A wonderful gift to be able to read them and learn more of God.
