Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 5:25

And they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

“Unfaithful!” To be full of faith is to be true to God in every aspect of our lives. No compromise with anything that would draw us away from God. Today’s reading shows us that even though we are not always faithful, when we are in trouble, we can still call upon the Lord in earnest prayer, and He will step in as we invite Him to do so. Chapter 5:20b tells us that, “They cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him.” Imagine, they captured 50,000 camels, along with other live stock. God remains faithful!

In Chapter six we learn of the importance of “the service of song in the house of the Lord.” In Psalm 100:2 we are told to “serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.” Just a few days ago in our reading in Ephesians 5:18-19, we were told to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with our hearts to the Lord.” This is important to God. Therefore, it should be important to us!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Thank You, Lord, for hearing and answering the prayers I offer to You each day. I cry out to You in the heat of the battle, and also when all is at peace. Please give me more grace so that I may be constantly faithful to You. I make melody with my heart to You! This is a time for singing and music. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I find that the thoughts that come to my mind (I confess to wandering thoughts in these chapters with so many hard-to-pronounce names) are, as they say, “off the wall.” When I read about the tribe of Gad (5:11), I thought of my minister when I was 6 or 7. His name was Rev. Stuart Woodland. My Dad was away because of the war, and the minister felt some responsibility to do what he could to help my mother to raise me well. He would threaten me by saying, “David, you be a good boy or I’ll take the gad to you.” I never found out for sure what a “gad” was, nor did I want to know. There was a twinkle in Rev. Woodland’s eye when he said this, but I still took him seriously. I did learn well from the Bible stories we read every day that God does send punishment for wrongdoing. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111:10a).

Yours for continuing to read and learn, in spite of 1,000+ strange names,

David

  1. I am so thankful for David’s comments,i they sure lightened the tone after reading all those names. I understood what he said about his mind wandering. I had to back track a couple of times and it was difficult to know where I left off. I did enjoy recognizing all the familiar names.
Gavin my grandson is able to say a few words now and is getting some movement in his right side. God is healing him a little bit everyday. Praise His name!!
I am thinking of those of you who need prayer this morning. God knows who you are and I pray that he will touch you in a special way today. Blessings Eleanor M.

  2. Thank you Eleanor. Yes, David is a good teacher and lightens the tone of our reading with all those names. Good to hear that Gauvin is coming along in his recovery and felt it would be gradual. One of my brothers had a brain operation and had to learn to talk again. Now he is a victim of a stroke but I am believing God for him. The sun broke through again and is a pleasant day.

  3. Thank you Eleanor.I am praying for traveling mercies for the junior Fortiers on their way back to Brighton,Ont this morning.Heavy rains are expected today. They are members of David’s former church there.Their son is 4 and his mother related how she was speaking there one day, with Pst.Mainse in attendance, while she was pregnant. She had to bend over to pick something up and fell. She was embarrassed because she knew he was there that day, lol.
I would be useless remembering an oral history of the clans. It is staggering and “off the wall”.

  4. In total agreement with you dear David in the 1000+ strange names.

Praying for all the families/friends/loved ones of all the young men who fought and sacrificed their lives for our freedom 75 years ago. How wonderful to see all the seniors still with us after such a horrific experience of fighting for us all. So many times in my lifetime I’ve seen that God does send punishment for wrongdoing.

  5. So glad to hear Gavin is making progress. I have him in my prayers.

I had my second eye cataract surgery yesterday. It went well. At my check up today my eye seems foggy, so apparently there is a bit of swelling and got some more drops to help that. I thank you for your prayers from last week for my surgery.

I’m finding it a challenge as well with all the names we are reading thus far. But then I stop and think, wow it is amazing that all these names are recorded and God knows each one of them as He created them. And all the people born before and since. Also the pictures Renyold has taken of the ruins and they are still standing to this very day. God is so good.

    Blessings to all today.

  6. Very happy to hear about Gaven. Progress may seem slow but God is good & may He bless Gaven & all the family & glorify Himself through this event. Lord, in Jesus Name, continue the healing completely. Thank You. Amen
