OUR HOLY GOD

Today’s Reading: Leviticus 19

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

Panorama of the Sea of Galilee looking from the north to south. The grain fields on the slopes are ready for harvest. My two sons and I gleaned from the fruit hanging over the fences while back-packing along the road which runs along the far side of Galilee. Ron was 14 and Reynold was 16. We qualified as "The poor and the stranger" described in Leviticus 19:9-10.

Key Verse: Leviticus 19:2

Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”

Seven of the Ten Commandments are emphasized here. Obviously, God knows that we need reminders. An old preacher was asked how he made sure his points were well made. He answered, “I tell them what I’m going to tell them, I tell them what I’m telling them, and then I tell them what I told them.” The truth is that we need all the help we can get to more fully understand God’s Word. If you have not already done so, I have a favour to ask of you. Please help me, like the old preacher, to tell the story to as many as possible. Consider sharing a link to 100words.ca on Facebook, twitter, e-mail, and even the old fashioned way of letters and phone calls. There are bulletin boards, as well as the really old way, word of mouth. God really hammers “tale-bearing,” or gossip, in today’s reading. But there is a GOOD tale to bear as well! Amen? Verses 6-8 were health guidelines. There was no refrigeration. God’s Word has a multi-purpose application.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I’m so thankful for the honour of Your call to read Your Word daily and participate in this blog. I am to love my neighbour as myself, as You reminded me again in our Leviticus 19 reading. Please help me to find fresh, creative ways to “love my neighbour as myself” today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The law of “gleanings” is here in our reading. This involves the harvest of grains, as well as fruit. In Israel today, this is still the law. My sons, Reynold, Ron and I took advantage of this in March of 1978 when we back-packed around Israel. There were no corner stores for many miles, but there were orchards of oranges, grapefruits, and something we never saw here at home, pomelos. They looked like grapefruit, only bigger and sweeter. Actually, these “offerings” hung over the fences. I’ve prayed fervently over the years that the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23) would be hanging out there in my life, so that everyone I meet could “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Every day, my son Reynold “offers” his photographs, taken during his travels in many Biblical locations. Let me also recognize my son Ron and his wife Ann. They “offered” to check this blog for spelling and punctuation errors, and Ann, an American, as well as a Canadian, ensures that when I use the American spelling of words like “favor” (American), they are changed to the international British (and Canadian) spelling, “favour.” Way to go Ann. Ron puts his brother’s pictures in the blog, and makes sure the technical matters, of which I know very little, are cared for.

Thank you to all my faithful helpers and readers,

David

  1. It has been along time since I commented here because I step on eggshells but “sah” said something yesterday that deserves some advice. He should maybe email or call Crossroads and talk to Ron Mainse or the prayer line.

  2. I’m also studying 1 Peter right now on my own and I just noticed that St. Peter is quoting this opening verse of Leviticus 19 in 1 Peter 1:16 for it is written “be holy because I am holy” – that is very cool.

Thanks to the padre and all you nice people , I’m really enjoying (and learning) so much, I’m actually getting enthusiastic and wanting to learn more.

  3. Thank you Lord for the blog – 100words.ca. Thanks to the entire Mainse family for their contribution to this Holy Spirit filled blog…

    Blessings blog friends…

  4. Thank you David,Ron , Ann and Renold for all your work that you put into our blog
everyday . Where would we be if it wasn’t for all of you. We are so blessed, and I am learning alot. God bless you and your families

  5. I always do tell people about the blog. If you took fruit off trees here you would be met by an angry owner and possibly the police! Anyway, David, is that pomelo thing that looks like a larger grapefruit safe to eat when, because of medication, you can’t eat grapefruit? That would be great! You get up at 4 a.m. to pray and do the blog so that must mean that Ron and Ann also have to rise early. That is quite a sacrifice. Thank you all so much.

  6. Thank you David, Norma-Jean, Reynold, Ron and Ann for all your sacrifice in doing this blog. And thank you God for calling them to do it. Amen!

  7. I pray for more people to read their bible daily. It has all the rules and regulations needed to live a happy, holy and contented life on earth. Thank you to Rev. DM et al for all your efforts in putting this study together.
    God’s will be done.

  12. Happy Thankisgivings Pastor David, Norma Jean and your dear family. Also all Canadian bloggers we will catch up with our American friends in November . It is such a blessing for me to read this blog everyday. Praise God from whom all blessings flow

  13. yes we have the Bible and it gives guidelines that help us all. Mother Theresa ministred to people who were down and out in their life, So Did Jesus! The Slavation Army ministers to all kinds of people! I have trouble with the First commandment “I am the Lord Thy God, thou shalt have no other gods before me”. Stuff gets in the way. and if people read my comment from Thursday I’m dealing with issues that are horrible and I’m unable to do anything about the situation but pray…. a person once said “I would have no problems if I didn’t have to deal with people!” I also have told many people about this blog! Verse 28………people tatoo everything and everywhere and even very young people tatoo their bodies…..all these things make me very uncomfortable….it seems the more I study, the less I know and I really don’t know how to respond to people sometimes so I just smile……blessing to everyone

  14. I praise God for leading me to this blog and thank The Mainse family for their faithfulness in getting it out to us each day.

    Blessings to everyone.

  15. God bless you Brad. Never be timid about speaking up about things! We are blessed in Canada to have free speech! This website is perfect for all issues to be discussed. We do them in love for the Lord and for each other.I so appreciate the honesty on many subjects! FINALLY WE CAN SPEAK AND HEARD AND BE LISTENED AND THAT IS ALL WE REALLY WANT! TO BE HEARD! I have had much prayer about my whole situation! I can’t comment much more as it is on going. As hard as it is I am “floored” to see God’s Hand in this situation. I only began to realize this 2 days ago. The first prayer said for me stated “Lord this is one complicated situation and only You God can straighten it out; WE are looking forward to see how You do this for all people involved!” And that’s about where I have left it BUT it’s very difficult. It is a life time challenge, forgiveness…..and I’m so surprised to hear of so many Christian people who have had these experiences either themselves or in their family! I never dreamt that something like this could happen AND I CAN’T SAY IT LOUD ENOUGH!!!!!! I am so thankful for knowing Jesus! Much good is already coming out of this issue, that is AMAZING GRACE THANKS AGAIN Blessings to everyone.
