Key Verse: Leviticus 19:2

Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”

Seven of the Ten Commandments are emphasized here. Obviously, God knows that we need reminders. An old preacher was asked how he made sure his points were well made. He answered, “I tell them what I’m going to tell them, I tell them what I’m telling them, and then I tell them what I told them.” The truth is that we need all the help we can get to more fully understand God’s Word. If you have not already done so, I have a favour to ask of you. Please help me, like the old preacher, to tell the story to as many as possible. Consider sharing a link to my blog on Facebook, twitter, e-mail, and even the old fashioned way of letters and phone calls. There are bulletin boards, and the really old way, word of mouth. God really hammers “tale-bearing,” or gossip, in today’s reading. But there is a good tale to bear as well! Amen? Verses 6-8 were health guidelines. There was no refrigeration. God’s Word has a multi-purpose application.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I’m so thankful for the honour of Your call to do this blog. In 76 years of living, I’ve learned one or two things. 1 – You love me and I love You. 2 – I am to love my neighbour as myself, as You reminded me again in our Leviticus 19 reading. Please help me to “love my neighbour as myself” by doing a better job of this blog. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The law of “gleanings” is here in our reading. This involves the harvest of grains, as well as fruit. In Israel today, this is still the law. My sons, Reynold, Ron and I took advantage of this in March of 1978 when we back-packed around Israel. There were no corner stores for many miles, but there were orchards of oranges, grapefruits, and something we never saw here at home, pomelos. They looked like grapefruit, only bigger and sweeter. Actually, these offerings hung over the fences. I’ve prayed fervently over the years that the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22-23) would be hanging out there in my life, so that everyone I meet could, “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Every day, my son Reynold offers his photographs. Pray for him as he travels to Turkey (Asia Minor), Greece, and Italy in November to take the photos he’ll offer as we travel via this blog beginning in January through those countries with the Apostle Paul, and of course with John in “The Revelation.” Let me recognize my son, Ron and his wife Ann. They check for spelling and punctuation errors, and Ann, an American as well as a Canadian, when I went to American spelling of words like, “favor” (American) changed it to the international British (and Canadian) spelling, “favour.” Way to go Ann. You have really become one of us! Ron puts his brother’s pictures in the blog, and makes sure of the technical matters, of which I know very little.

Thank you to all my faithful helpers and readers,

David

  1. Indeed, the Lord wants His children to live as a Holy people. This is of course something we don’t hear often today, but the scriptures make this point of emphasis often. The Holy Spirit, prayer and faithful bible reading can help us live lives in keeping with the standards of God’s will for our lives.

  2. Hi David,
Would you believe I drifted off to sleep recently trying to remember the Ten Commandments and wondering where I might find them? My persistence with the reading of Leviticus is paying off!

Reynold’s photographs are majestic. I feel I am travelling with him in a way, and will keep him in my prayers as you ask. And Ann and Ron recently inspired me to get into God’s word daily which I have been doing without fail ever since in addition to reading 100words.ca 🙂 I will always remember this time in my life.

  3. Hi David. I am posting to encourage you to keep going. I have been following daily since you started blogging. I am so enjoying and learning so much about who God is, His holiness, and his attention to detail. I am really starting to understand how much God loves us/me right down to the tiniest detail! Thank you so much David and to all your family assistance!!!

  4. This time of reading the scriptures and your blog shedding light on them has also been a time I’ll never forget. A journey through the bible in two years leaves lots of time to learn and reflect in prayer. Some of the details are as seeds which germinate and offer perspective, which I did not necessarily understand at the time of reading them. Thank you all for opening our eyes a little more each day.

  5. I agree with Scott. We need to listen to the God and Holy Spirit to follow him.
I will pray for all of you for health and protection when you Travel
    God Bless you

  6. Your daily blog has been such an inspiration to me, David, and has added such a great start to my day. Reynold’s beautiful photographs give so much more to it because they take me right there, to the places you are reflecting on. To see where Jesus was amplifies knowing Him.

Your guidance has been an absolute blessing because it has kept me on the track of a regular bible reading, meditation and prayer, early, each morning. You are teaching me to become faithful to spending time with my Lord, at the very start of the day.

I have sent an email to friends and am posting a message with a link to your blog on our church facebook page, today. Thank you for touching so many lives with Jesus!

  7. Dear Mr. Mainse
Thankyou for writing these posts as one of your many gifts to the world. I empathise with your statement above that you are honoured to write a blog (when you no longer have the other public platforms you used to have.)
I have not had such public platforms as yours from which to give honour to our amazing God. Now at age 63, I am very grateful for the internet that gives me the opportunity to post praise on my own blog at http://everydaylight-dj.blogspot.ca

  8. Each day your messages have become my bible study, the words of each phrase now have meaning. As a Mature but struggling follower I no longer have more questions than understanding. God Bless you and yours for giving such a gift to all stumbling through and reaching out to know His word. Reynolds pictures always lift my spirits even when the rain and wind beat against the windows. David you and Norma -Jean have always filtered the periphery of my life and in a personal time of struggle in the middle of the night I reached out and remembered your prayer line and 100 Huntley was there with a steadying hand to guide me and my search for understanding Gods will began. THANK YOU for each step you both have given us to follow as we re balance and move forward. Blessings to you and yours

  9. Thank you David for your blog each day. I always find Lev. difficult but you are giving me more understanding of it. This blog is giving me a greater discipline in my day as I read it early each morning and then spend time with the Lord. I love the pictures your son is taking. Send Kathy a special hug and love from me. I miss her so much on 100 Huntley. She has always been an inspiration to me. Love Anne and Ron also but somehow have met Kathy several times personally. God bless and please take care of yourself. Elizabeth

  10. Thank you for doing this, David. You are doing a great job and it is enjoyable and entertaining to read.
Re: Pomellos, I only just tried them this year. Wonderful fruit, and its good to know they grow in Israel. ( I got them through Safeway here in BC. )

    You are in my Prayers.

  11. Thank you, David, for this wonderful blog, for encouragement to read God’s word, and for sharing your passion for Christ with us all.

  12. Dear David, thank you again for your faithfulness in doing this daily blog; it is keeping me more faithful in my daily Bible reading. This past summer I traveled 7 hour trip alone and listened to Leviticus while traveling. I was amazed at the repetitiveness in it but at the same time interesting. I have been a Christian many years but would never be able to read the entire book in one sitting. Listening to it really brought it alive and made it more interesting! I am enjoying the insertion of the new testament applications in your daily blog. Thank you again.

  13. Thank you again David for writing this blog. I so enjoy reading it and thank you also to all your helpers. You have a wonderful family. I thank God for your diligence and all your supports.

  14. I would like to ask you the meaning of Hebrews 6:1, specifically “repentence from dead works”? Does dead works mean “sin”?
